Marchand lives rent free in the Leaf's heads. He said what he said to the press because he knows putting the Leaf's on a pedestal is only going to cause more pressure and add fuel to the flame if and when the Leafs don't perform to the expectations him and fans have created. Veteran player playing veteran mind games.
If you think pressure is "higher "because of what Marsh said you don't know what pressure they already had. It was already at 100%. There is no more pressure available, he is the best pest the league has ever known, leafs had Darcy Tucker and know the game he plays and have used it themselves. It's the referee's Marsh plays like a fiddle and the Leafs aren't the only team who have suffered that historically, it's been every team that has payed the price for referee own-age, not just the Leafs.

I live in downtown Toronto, about 700 m from the Scotiabank arena. I've been a Leafs fan all my life, which started in 1960. I watched the Leafs win the Stanley cup on TV in 1967 with my dad, and I've been hoping ever since...
I don't hate Brad Marchand at all. When I try to figure out if I like a player or not, I always try to figure out what I would think of him, if he were on the Maple Leafs.
I've got to say, Brad Marchand would be my favorite player on the Leafs, and he would be yours too...

I met Brad Marchand a few years ago he is actually a super nice guy he was signing autographs for some little kids and taking pictures with them and he told the kids to practice in Hockey stay in school and be nice to your parents and I'm 51 years old I said to Brad Marchand that was really cool what you said to the kids I have so much respect for you now and he said thanks man I appreciate that.. and yes I know Brad Marchand is a pest on the ice but when you're playing hockey the other team is not supposed to like you like I played Minor Hockey and I was in fights and had heated moments But all that stays on the ice it's part of the game

Toronto has a great team and with the players they have, I feel bad that they are going home for the season. The fans shouldn't be mad at any of the players. Don't fault Samsonov either. Go back throughout the season and watch all the goals He gave up. I guarantee you 80 to 85% of the goals he gave up were goals he would never have saved nor would any other goalie. Today's players are so elite that the passes they make at the last second for another guy to tip it in is insane. Every game at least one goal will be made that the goalie for any goalie ever could have saved. You guys have a great goalie, and great players. Toronto's problem is it's coaching. On paper, Toronto's team compared to Boston's team, Toronto is the favorite. On the ice, Toronto loses the series, the Bruins almost won the president's trophy. That tells you wrote right there that coaching is better in Boston. When you just sit back and look at the teams, you say damn Toronto should win this in four games, four to nothing. You cannot see good coaching, determination and heart on paper. Toronto should be proud of their players, but you fans should get on their coach to be fired And also on the owner to pay up for Superstars. Matthews needs to get his money and marner needs to be shipped out. Hell, ship him to Boston!

Great game last night you guys looked fantastic even without Matthews. As a Bruins fan, I am officially nervous.
He knows what he'd doing. That's what makes it clear that he has no respect for the game. Yea has got serious talent as a player. As a leader and as his best attempts at being a man, he makes all the bruins shittier and more childish. I CANT respect him as a man cause he doesn't act like one, he acts like a child. Marchand is the modern day Ulf Samuelsson, a rat who cheap shots and turtles the minute someone tries to grab him. and for some reason the league protects him. Would bake a cake if Max emulated his old man and knocked Marchand out the same way Tie got Samuelsson.

Only people who never played (or were whiners when they did) fail to respect Marchand. He outworks everyone, makes huge plays, leads everywhere on the ice including the scoreboard, disrupts the opposition with his tenacity, uses every inch of slack the rules give him, and will challenge any guy no matter how big and bad he says he is. He's a paragon of playing hockey The Right Way. He has the honor and class to respect his opponent (and credit to Domi for same). Seems like a lot of people don't understand that there is a mental side to the game in which any foothold you can get in causing your opponents to anticipate your behavior is a chance to steal more initiative, and if you can get them emotionally perturbed, it throws off their game, opening up more advantage. To do what he does as well as he does it along with being so skilled with and without the puck and putting up points is a full package, and he doesn't even have any size on his side. If he hasn't earned someone's respect by now, it's on them, not him.

Why did you say Marchand respects the game? There are more than a dozen recorded instances of him not respecting the game and displaying rat behavior. People are so lighthearted talking about him omitting the many times he's injured or nearly injured players recklessly.
It's rather amusing to see people who think that Nylander, the biggest creampuff on the team, is going to be the x-factor if he returns. Guy is gonna get just bodied in this series. He'll come back for one game, and likely be stretchered off the ice if he even sniffs a corner.

As a Leafs fan, Marchand is very skilled but he is very dirty too. The problem isn't so much that hes dirty, its that the refs know this but rarely call him on it. As long as he gets away with his antics, hes going to continue doing it. I mean, wouldnt you, especially if it helps you win?

This is what everyone warns eachother about going into the playoffs. Refs put away the whistle during the playoffs and yet people still don’t get it. Hes playing within playoff limits. Regular season they’ll call the wrestling all day.
I watch all 82 games every year. Marchand literally never gets the benefit of most calls, I fam near spit my drink out when they just let Bert and Brad go and then we scored. For all that he does get away with, he’s definitely under a microscope. It’s just one of the reasons people go after him. It’s a higher chance to get a Rep call against him instead of an actual penalty.
@@therealten8090 Both teams got away with some minor stuff but only 1 team got away with multiple that lead to breaks resulting in goals. Had that been the Leafs, it would definitely be called back. Boston has always been ref friendly for many years, regardless of who they've been playing, but now Florida is in the mix too, which is 1 great reason they beat Boston last year despite having a 3-1 series lead. Until Bettman is gone, there's no chance of these biased refs going anywhere or anything being done about them

Marchand ACTUALLY trips up a player, etc., and there's no call. Please explain how any of that makes sense. How is one called but the other isn't when Bertuzzi's was nowhere near as bad as any of Marchand's bs yet no Marchand penalties? I get being a Boston fan but you guys would be losing your minds if this happened to the Bruins, even just once, but try many times over many games. They even called Tavares on the softest call, but again, Marchand gets absolutely no calls against him. This was some great playoff hockey, until the refs wanted the spotlight

Yes, as a Boston fan, I used to kind of be embarrassed by a lot of things, especially endangering other players with slew footing. I honestly believe he was doing it because of only being 59 and had a chip on his shoulder yes since grown up and let his talent do his speaking for him although he still tries to get under your skin. Funny thing is when big Bart got to Boston last year. Brad drove him to practice all the time. This is why I love hockey.
The Marchand haters of the world (of which there are many ) have over-blown that stuff. There are half a dozen guys WAY worse than him.... AND plenty of players get under other players skin - it's just the way they learned the game and it's only gotten worse.
Half the time he did nothing wrong. refs go after him because of his rep. He hits the brakes - the stiff skates into his leg and goes down like a toddler in heavy surf. The Marchand hating fans and media cry "another slew foot!" when it's not, it's f'ing called H-O-C-K-E-Y. You don't want to get hit or fall down - take up fishing.
Tkachuk is MUCH worse, so is Cousins, so id Goudas, Pospisil et al. They hate Marchand because HE - and Boston - wins. They'd love the guy if he was on their team.

Marchie is the guy you love to hate. I love a good pest - I mean, Tucker was my guy for years on Toronto - they just bring something to the game. And Marchand is a damn good player on top of being the guy you also want to see get flattened against the boards.

Yeah, we are more physical for sure. However, nothing else has changed. We still end up on the losing end. If we are lucky we may win one more but Boston has more determination and grit than Toronto and will win in 6.
Marchy is a different man since pinning the C on his chest. He no longer takes crazy penalties and has more self -discipline than ever before. He is a great hockey man. Do not chalk him up to some nefarious character in this hockey world. Honestly, if I had my choice as a Bruins fan I would like him to go back to being a true "rat", and really get nasty. He is a definite asset to the Bruins, and I hope he plays a few more years for this club. Or at least until he bags another Stanley Cup for the New England area.

@@anthonylarson7919 and really ever since the covid shortened 20-21 year weve seen so much skill and very little physicality or grit and it has caused the game to go soft as a result compared to before. One of the best things about the 2010s was by how intense and low scoring it was and now is stil is fun but not as fun as it was in previous decades like the 2010s

The only one to blame for the leafs failures is the leafs. They suck at leaving Boston players open and Toronto has zero killer instinct, they play like weak ineffective individuals and fail as a team on multiple front. Boston deserves to move on and the leafs deserve to go play golf, hopefully they’re better golfers than hockey players.
