    Your strength and your strength knowledge are are very impressive. It is not difficult to understand why you have been so successful in your Strongman competitions. Thank you for taking the time to share your extensive training knowledge with those of us who enjoy training. Also a 'tip of the hat' to Alan Thrall for giving us a pointer to your TH-cam channel.

    Hey Brian. I'm following your 3-month linear progression program and adding to it all kind of assistance exercices you preach. The results are awesome 3 weeks is visually and on the bar. OHP was my weakest exercise and it started looking decent with all your tips. Thanks for your valuable videos and inspiration!

    nice PR! I've been programming waiter walks as a finisher on ohp day since you last mentioned them in your programming ohp video. takes me 180 steps to circuit the basketball court. barbell and dumbbell both. some days for weight, some days for speed. 2 days ago, I hit my 6-weeks-ago 1rm for four reps. yeah man... the proof is in the improvement. big thanks as always, Brian!

    Im so glad i started watching your videos. I went from only training bench squat and deadlift, and it causing shoulder problems to working in strongman stuff and im hooked. My shoulder feels better than ever now and i just ohp 245 not 390 but im getting there

  • @asyncasync
    @asyncasync 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    The strict OHP is a really cool lift. A very nice way to test you strength and I consider it one of the 4 big lifts (as opposed to the 3). It also makes my shoulder+abs day much more interesting. Without it my shoulder+abs day would just be boring and tedious, honestly.

    • @BrianAlsruheOfficial
      @BrianAlsruheOfficial  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Brian Alsruhe I don't know if that's true, at least for your push press. The only guy I knew of doing more than you would be that Russian Olympic lifter Dimitri klokov, but he's ridiculous too.
      It really is incredible watching people OHP or push press double the weight I can. It's cool to know that's even humanly possible.

    • @BrianAlsruheOfficial
      @BrianAlsruheOfficial  7 ปีที่แล้ว +23

      Dude, there are numerous guys in the 231 Strongman weight class that can put over 400lbs over their heads and countless Oly lifters who do it effortlessly. Seriously. This is good for me, but not great comparatively. Even Rich Froning can do something like 385 or something like that. i appreciate the kind words but the pool is VERY deep and i am still in the shallow end

    Thanks for the video, there aren't many videos on the overhead press out there. The overhead press is one of my lifts I perform once a week. I was pressing 225, but it's closer to 200 now. Those were some good exercises in the video that I'm eager to try and that I would never learn from commerical gym trainers. Actually, in commercial gyms, very few even bench press in the 200's. My bench is 350 and members at my commercial gym think that's, "incredible."

  • @kristian9k3g99
    @kristian9k3g99 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    It's a split jerk ;) It's not a pretty one but it's definitely not a push press because you dip to catch. It's also not a push jerk because your stance changes to a split stance. I'd recommend hitting these different lifts (with lighter weight to start) specifically to notice their differences and learn each of them better. I gave your video a like because your accessory exercises are actually good and you explain stuff simply for those who aren't personal trainers :D

    Hey Brian. How would you explain the benefit/carryover of a thick bar press for one's strict oh press? Are there carry overs, or is the use of the thick bar a more sport specific thing for strongman?

  • @carntspell
    @carntspell 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Maybe the only reason not many people do heavy overhead presses is because it's hard. Great point on the front squat - perfect prep for an overhead lift.

    Awesome video as always Brian! Thanks for the assistance movements they're awesome! I tried the overhead walk movement the other day.. my gym doesn't have a yoke so I used the kettle bells instead. It is crazy hard but I felt great afterwards!Also, wondering if some point in the future you could do a video about some assistance workouts for the front squat! Lately I've been playing around with the overhead squat. I know, it's more of a Oly movement than a strongman movement, but it feels good lol. And I'll confess, but this is embarrassing: my 1rm for front squat is well over 250lbs... yet my overhead squat hovers around a measly 100lbs... less than half my front squat!! :(

    Pushjerk? LOL. and...what he was trying to say was, "don't be a jerk" Always good advice. Klokov did strict 160 kg, which was very impressive, especially for his bodyweight.

      What makes a front squat so effective to help the ohp?
      Also big props on the channel. Found you after you and Alan did the collaboration and so glad I did. I have told so many people about the channel. I just jacked my buddy's phone, subbed him and said "you need to watch and learn".
