I miss the 80s had a blue bmx for Christmas one year, had a few transformers toy,had all the transformers comics which my mum threw away one year, remember our first vhs player was a top loader,I got to choose the first movies we rented to play on it,short circuit and flight of the navigator, curtains shut pop & crisps ,sister went out,mum fell asleep so I got to watch them all by myself ,no phone no Internet, having to actually go round your mates to say you couldn't go round to play great days.
no phone and no internet was what I loved the most. the feeling of being able to just be in the moment - you could hide if you wanted, and be found if you wanted!
What a great guy & interview, well done Lisa (been on holiday so just back & seen this epic) love this channel soooo much, keep the interviews coming. 😁😁😄😄👍👍😉😉
I was born in ‘73 and I adored the 80s. My little brother (rest in peace) was born in ‘79 so I also lived consciously a lot in the early 90s because we actually became friends when I was 17/18. I mellowed out and he was a cool teenager so we actually liked to spend time. And unfortunately we didn’t save our toys. A lot of our stuff as given away to the kids of our neighbours (which was cool). But ironically I always wore oversized stuff. So I still have band shirts from the 80s that eventhough I now heavy (can’t get it off anymore especially after steroid treatment) I still fit it. And I often wear this faded purple MTV hoodie. And my customers all love it! They even made offers in it. But also old faded Atari tshirt. I have a transformers and knight rider shirt. There are tiny holes in those but I still wear them. And I have my old guitars (sold the synths when I switch to guitar 😢). The amps I got rid off (too big) and when you don’t fit you don’t need stacks - well that was the opinion of my neighbors, not mine 😂 And as a kid I always wore baseball hats that was something that I had left over from the year we lived in the US. And I still have some of those hats. And for my channel I started collecting old computers. And I needed a SEGA MegaDrive and Original Gameboy because my brother had the MegaDrive we both had GB. And I was blown away by the MegaDrive as a 19/20 year old. It was better than my Atari ST and PC (I should’ve gone for the Amiga). And I still program those old machines to this day. Yeah life was great in the 80s and even my parents think the 80s were the best. And my father was born in 42 and my mom in the early 50s. Both of them think those 80s were the best time with the 70s a close second. And my mom and I were considered poor in the 70s, she was a single mom on welfare. And even she said we didn’t miss out on anything. I have some vivid memories of me being 3-5 in the 70s and there are all super happy. But when my mom married my (step) dad suddenly we were “middle class” living in a terraced house instead of a council appartement. It was mind blowing. And then in 82-83 living in Harrisburg PA was magical. America was so different from the Netherlands. Then 84-85 in Ashford Kent (going there tomorrow with the old folks again) was very contrasty from NL and US. Poor in comparison but also a great vibe back then.
what a lovely comment, I'm so glad this video meant I could hear this - i'm so grateful we could experience the 80s (and 90s for me), looking back I feel I KNEW we were living in a special time then, i just wish it could have lasted longer.
@@LifeAfterMoviesWebShow Oh yes I fully agree. And I guess all GenX and early millenials share that sentiment. My favorite band Steel Panther wrote an 80s anthem called 1987 and they have two lines in that song that really capture the sentiment. “Our friends were real and we saw them everyday” “And nobody canceled for they thing that they’d say” There was a vibe that ended around 1995 that I can’t describe but we all who lived through it know it. A certain innocent, quirky and cozy vibe. And eventhough we lived through crises too, there was always a hopefulness that people were like: “we’ll get through this.” Now the (what I calm silence crisis) where especially young people and families with kids really struggle to get by despite both of them. having jobs. And there’s no “it will get better” feeling anymore. And perhaps because that community backbone we use to have is gone. I don’t know but what I mean to say things were bleak in the early 80 and mid to late 90s but we knew unemployment would drop and we’d flourish again. Now everybody has jobs and many can’t seem to even pay heating and food bills. 😢
Computers from the '80s were amazing. It was like the Cambrian Explosion. Everywhere you looked there was a brand you never heard of. If only I had appreciated it more. Our first computer was an Atari ST. I wish I still had it. You can't find these at op-shops anymore, sadly. Forget emulators: once you experience these old machines for real, you will see why people remember them so fondly. Just... do yourself a favour and skip the tape drive, eh?
@@LifeAfterMoviesWebShow One of my faves is Leisure Suit Larry. I started playing it recently (with the OG graphics) and I am stuck again. Still, I love those early graphic adventures. I would love to make my own one day.
Just 4 the record I had a BMX bike!! It was gold & burgundy colour, & my mum was soooo annoyed with my dad for buying it for me as she thought it was a BOYS bike, but I loved it!! 💖💖 Had soooo much fun on it & that's what life's all about having fun!! 😁😁😄😄👍👍😉😉

i miss the days where games were space for jump, alt for shoot and ctrl for punch - just 3 buttons and the greatest games that never got old!
