  • Three years ago she believed she was specifically selected by God to hear voices and sense presences, which were able to talk to her. She thought it was a gift.
She started hallucinating scenarios and different environments that no one else could see or were apart.
A straight forward woman who has experienced some unusual things. She shares her insight and thoughts regarding mental health from a unique perspective.
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at ted.com/tedx

Hey dude the point of this video is that its not an illness to hear voices, its a natural phenomena that happens to 3-10% of the population.
You're allowed to hear voices and it's not a disorder it's a different way of life. Its not something that can be cured like a cold, it's like trying to cure left-handedness.

Staying **grounded** with voices is not easy. Especially or maybe bc I haven’t taken meds for a decade. That’s easier latter in life. My conservative MD can’t understand why I don’t take his preventative or emergency asthma prescriptions. Drinking Keto/ Bulletproof coffee with collagen means in my case I don’t have symptoms anymore but that made no sense to him. (No cure just 95% relief) After making the mistake of telling him I hear voices he changes his style completely & makes it clear he wants me to see someone else. He’s in a walk-in clinic. The last Medicare GP I had was in his 80’s. Just mentioning depression brought an officious serious expression, “you know, there’s something called Prozac for that.” Wow, no kidding doc. That’s amazing.

This is a brilliantly underrated description of what I have been living with for a long time now, I think it's very telling that the effects or identifying symptoms are the same no matter who you are, as we are supposed to be individually delusional, and no two people can share a hallucination either by way of content or by design.
I feel to say that I and possibly others are subjected to something rather more nefarious and insidious, it goes by many names and even has its own UN human rights report addressing the same issue published in February 2020.
Maybe, some of these alternative explanations might give credence to testimonies like this one.

  • @Kimbyj78

My voices are dependent upon the situation around me. Sometimes, it's a woman narrator. Other times it's a radio station or the news channel from the t.v. that really isn't there. Sometimes. I can understand what the voices are saying, other times, I can't really tell. But, I can always understand the narrator's words. At one point, I heard my name being called. More than voices though, it's more of a feeling of someone lurking behind every door, window, corner, etc... I have to use rational thinking clues to discern what is real and what is not. An example would be my hearing the voice say the same thing over and over again. My rational thought process says that there is no one in their right mind going to keep repeating what ever they keep saying, over and over again.. and then I come to the conclusion that what I am hearing, isn't directly around me or even in a space around me that has been set up as a personal "alarm system". I've decided, that ( yay far ) is what I will allow and not allow to effect me. And, once that line is crossed, at that time, I will worry about needing to assess the situation further. Otherwise, I block it out and keep going about my day.

I'm disobedient to bad commands from 'voices'... I love to obey the good commands... Otherwise, I'm basically left to myself nowadays to my 'free time' and it's good... I wait upon The Good 'voices'... Of course, with all sorts of factors involved in discussions and what is good and/or bad for each individual, also leads me back to the first time I heard 'voices' and 'instantly obeyed' without thought of consequence... I had to learn to try and control myself... ooops, I thought I'd lost this page... I clicked accidentally on some mysterious button and had the headline: You've gone igcognito.... I had such a fright! Anyways, yeah, control myself... another notch in the Universe's laugh bag! What a thing! Glitches, hitches and so on... I'll keep on seeking out the good side (for me) in everything... Thanks for the good video to All involved... I know it takes great courage to speak out... Talking is good... It's like negotiating or talking one's way out of a bad situation... And much more 'positive' in every way than trying to understand everything that's going on 'inside' where one is not in control of the 'conversation/s'... Even good to write it all out... Or even have a smile or good word for one's self (and others) in the mirror - but that last one isn't for everyone... Mirrors are another story as it confuses the mind even more! Yes, we are all logical in our own way about our own vision/what we see, so actually seeing a real image of 'yourself' in a conversation or 'discussion' is rather scary... I've tried it and ended up quite 'mad' because I was not in control... Talking into a mirror takes a lot, and I mean, a lot of control... Learning to do it for some may be a breeze, but others who already have issues may find it very disturbing... And then others, well, they wouldn't even bother with mirrors as a conversational medium... Jees, I'd better run! Got things to do!

Hello, I hear voices. I’ve been hearing voices for ten years. I think there’s a way that voices are real. I think that there is someone else other than myself that I can hear in my head. I don’t care if I’m wrong. I want to prove that it’s possible because no one dare think it’s possible because the intrusion of our thoughts to anyone is ridiculous. To me it’s possible. Has anyone proven that it’s not!?

I am a parent with schizophrenia. I still take care of my child when I hear voices like I still go potty in the toilette. The media portrays us as scary parents, that is so insulting. When I lived in Princeton I would watch John Nash with his son, and they looked like the ideal family. I hate the movie A Beautiful Mind because they lied about John Nash almost drowning his son. That movie was really great at ending the stigma, not. We really need more voices demonstrating that people with mental illness can parent.

That movie came out during a time when I was in psychosis and trialling medications. Some scenes were too much, but watching how he used reality testing to figure out his hallucinations and delusions changed my perspective. It helped me realize that even if my senses were fooled, there are ways to figure out reality vs. illness.

Its actually a disorder and not crazy anymore like it was in the 50's. There are realities and non-realities to the illness because some of your subconscience/hallucination is open during the day to hear odd things. The talking is obnoxious; but you overcome with skills and meds. Her share was brave and has helped others.

Do you know how you hear your own voice in your head?
The mechanical part on how your body does that.
Not too many people know, unless you're forced to learn. There's a part of your brain for speech, for speaking .
    Anything you think of,
it automatically vibrate your vocal cords
When you push the air out of your lungs ,through your vocal cords, that's how we talk out loud.
But when you don't push the air out, there still air flowing through your vocal cords.
It echoing in your head, thru your bones your own voice. That's how you hear your own voice using, your inner voice.
It's also your thoughts, if you thought of it your vocal cords are vibrating it .
    When you're dreaming,
that part of your brain does not know that you're dreaming.
It just knows you want to talk.
So in your dreams, your vocal cords are vibrating and in your dream when having a conversation with somebody, your vocal cords are vibrating both parts .
The noises you hear in your dream also your vocal cords and I believe your memory on that one.

Lol "chilliwack" that's a funny name. But on a serious note I notice how her eyes and facial expressions match with the words that she says so much that it creates an image of what she's talking about. I found myself going through and pausing and unpausing to see this. It might be weird to analyze it but to me it seems like you're either a really good story teller or you are still living the effects of those events (at least the memories), or its both. All in all I think looking into it really emphasizes how brave you are.

@@raymukhtar6806 I really wish people would STOP saying God will heal you. My son has cried out to God to save him from this torture and so have I for him, but to no avail. You CAN'T pray the schizo away. That's like people saying you can pray cancer, diabetes, etc. away. The result of so many people telling my son that God will heal him is....well, he no longer believes in God. He says, "Mom, why won't God heal me?" "What did I do to deserve this torture 24/7?" He didn't do anything wrong. So you people out there that tells people God will heal you...you've never really had schizophrenia.!!!! So please STOP IT.

@@Donna-vh5ym same here. The god thing is not good. I'm not going to lie I've looked into technology and frequencies. Radios. Like the dogs. Footsteps. Birds. Doors closing. People saying things under their breath. The wind. The cars. It's not a god thing. I've done alot of research. It's not human either although people can catch on to who is effected. I don't know if it will change as it is repetitive torture. "they" will say something till the saying hits you heavy... There nothing you can do about it. The people will pretend to help. Just to hit you heavy again. Just have to play along till your dead really. Like have no emotion about anything. Trust me I've been going through this for years now. They know the people at least. There not there to help either. It makes having a job decently annoying. It's okay except you lose everything about who you are. For nothing. Right now I'm just in the moment of they're so bored. Don't change my behavior. I live outside so my block literally talks back and I walk to work so do the people in thier vehicles. Just have to be nothing and feel nothing like they want really. Don't deserve it. I can't tell if it's targeted or not. Dunno. Just don't care. When you talk to a person just say yo! If they say to much and there not speaking just say yo.

I totally agree! Lots of people's delusions are wrapped up in religion! Believing in things that you cannot see or other people cannot see or hear, is a great first step into delusional thinking! I was a firm believer before I was diagnosed. Now after taking antipsychotic drugs I am an atheist .... one of my delusions was seeing an angel. that made me think that I was chosen by God! Thank you for your reply.

Sounds more like you were demonized and cursed by someone else perhaps. Idk. But the true voice- voice of light is always kind.
