He's such a down to earth chill guy
Can you do clean vocals?
Little did they know!! Phil is a beautiful clean singer!! Whitechapel rules! \m/
This comment aged so well
"No! *fart* "
XD i died laughing!
Keep up the good work phil whitechapel live is so fucking awesome .. and btw your cover of unanswered is the best i've ever seen
watching this now I laughed when he talked about clean vocals considering the new album
I love how he says NO! Then puts his butt in the camera!!
spoiler alert
lucastrav lol
Something so incredibly entertaining about seeing 2013 Phil being a TH-camr. I couldn't imagine Phil trying to be a 2022 TH-camr. This video's a really cool trip down memory lane. I was in 10th grade, and I was *finally* exploring Whitechapel. I first heard y'all with This Is Exile on Headbanger's Ball. It was the only deathcore song I knew for maybe 4-5 years. Once I got into you guys, I started with This Is Exile and The Somatic Defilement, and the rest is history. Well, after I googled a bunch of words I didn't know! I don't know if you'll check the comments on this video ever again, but thanks for giving me some awesome memories and awesome music. \m/
I just have to say today is officially amazing. Feels great to be acknowledged by your favorite vocalist.
It's pretty awesome to see people from bands take time out of days to browse through comments to answer them and connect a little more with fans.
7:49 LOL OMFG. LOST MY SHIT RIGHT THERE.
so did he..........
get it....no......ok
kozmo fox Same 😂😂
I really love that he does these. It's so refreshing to see a musician showing as much care as Phil does for the fans.
Hey Phil love that you're doing videos! Love Whitechapel; keep up the great music. I wanted to ask if there are any quotes or "codes" you live by? And who inspires you the most to keep going in life?
Can you explain your evolution as a vocalist? Like what range did you start out with, and where did you evolve to from that. Like with me I started with mids, then highs became my main thing and im trying lows but I just cant get where I want to go. Any hints, or anything no matter how small would be awesome!
Phil is actually a very genuine guy, he seems like a really respectful dude. Major props to phil
Coming back to this 5 years later and it’s insane to hear him talk about video games
Who's idea was it to do a cover of Strength Beyond Strength? Great band by the way, and glad to see you're reaching out to your fans.
What were you guys doing in Whitechapel that brought attention to record labels? (Building a lot of hype by playing shows, Building hype on the internet etc.)
Do you still keep in touch with Kevin? What has he been up to? School?
have you gone through anything in life that you think changed you in a whole different way? On your last video you said "I am a lot older in my mind then I am physically'' i was just curious, in a lot of your songs you say many things are very true and it really gets me thinking on life itself. Your mind is full of knowledge I think and the key to knowledge is acceptance. Your awesome phil!! - One nation under hypocrisy!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for playing Frederick MD man. I'm a relatively new fan but you all are set in concrete in my top favorites along with Pantera, Sepultura (with Max Cavalera) and Slayer.
+Earl Peach That Frederick show was insane man! Had no idea Whitechapel played venues like that, definitely a very memorable top show of mine as well.
Does it piss you off when fans try too hard to talk to you? for example: Through your personal Facebook.
love the channel so far Phil. Keep up the good work :)
such a normal man
Ben Watson that's good
I just wanted to say that is super nice to see you like this! I mean, the cool guy next door :D keep doing it! :)
You're a Titans fan AND a Braves fan? You're literally the coolest person ever, I can't express that enough.
Your inspiration for becoming a metal singer is the most original and I applause you immensely.
gotta love that your a braves fan!!!! whitechapel is the only reason I make It through work every day just plug you in and jam out for twelve hrs
After singing in The Mitch Lucker Memorial Show do you think they should do a memorial show every year? Because that was one of the greatest concerts I have seen.
Cool video bruh i didn't know you had a TH-cam channel, also I didn't know you were inspired by cannibal! good stuff bro
Phil, what keeps you motivated to keep up the musicians life while you aren't on tour and aren't recording?
What are the major do's and don't of an aspiring metal band? If you could go back to yourself 10 years ago, what advice regarding your band would you give yourself??
Thanks man
i wish you had just gone for recording clean vocals before. I feel identified when he talks about it, wideing your range is the best thing a vocalist can go for.
HA i have the same problem as you but with liquor after i got alcohol poisoning even a small amount cant trigger my vomit reflex cause i spent SOOO much time vomiting...weed is cool though
What is your favorite type of mosh pit to see from the stage? Wall of death, circle pit, classic mosh, etc?
When I saw Whitechapel at Mayhem 2012 you called a wall of death which was fun.
Do you enjoy collaborating with guest vocals on bands, like you did with Chimaira when they released The Age Of Hell and I Declare War Self Titled? - Martin Rodriguez
It's cool to see that you're such a down to earth guy since most people - unfamiliar with the metal scene etc, - wouldn't even dare to think that after listening to your music ;) Anyways:keep up the great music. Cheers!
Finally a front man whom is terrified of puking like me haha and hates weed.
Cameron Cobb wrong use of 'whom'
Chis Motionless hates weed too :D
whats wrong with weed?
Dizapointment he explained. Watch the video again and listen closely.
what other advice would you give to young musicians trying to start up a successful rock/metal band, other than promoting it through Facebook or other social networks? is self-funded touring a good way to build a fan-base or would sending music to record labels and waiting to get signed be a better alternative?
I remember that tour with ADBOK. I think it was the "Bang Your Head Til We Raise The Dead" tour. I was at the Valarium on what I think was the last stop of that tour actually. I originally met you and Gabe at the Hideaway when Winds of Plague were there with Veil of Maya, Speak of the End, Impending Doom, and Stick to your Guns back in '08 I believe. That was actually my first show. Lol
1. Do you have any other job besides Whitechapel? Or is Whitechapel the only financial source in your life?
2. What is your favorite country you've been to? (I hope for you it's Germany :P)
need to see your band in south of FRANCE dude!!!! I'm singer too and for me your one ov the best singers!!! your created a new type of death vocal!!!!just for that i can say that your a genius!!!! Don't forget that in france you've got fans!!!! brice \m/
While on tour or anywhere, who was the person you were most starstruck by?
will you guys ever come in India to play? and what inspires you to write the lyrics for you songs?
Being that youre a huge vocal inspiration for me what would you say is the best way to keep your voice healthy while screaming?
How much research did you do for The Somatic Defilement?
Why are you so awesome?
You guys never disappoint me with your music, be it The Somatic Defilement or the newer album. I look forward to your future works and thanks for reading this.
When is the next time whitechapel will tour through Columbus Ohio, and Can I meet you at the next show you do in Columbus? I am a huge fan of you as a person and a huge fan of whitechapel as well. I seen you guys with bless the child, the plot in you, and the besat and his image as well at mayhem Fest 2012. You, and whitechapel made me love the genre of music and inspired me to become and unclean vocalist in the forming band I'm in, and I've always wants to meet you.
Have you ever considered playing in Portugal?
Man you (and Whitechapel) have a carload of fans here.
i've been listening to you guys for about a year and i haven't come across a single song that hasn't blown my mind ! im an amatuer vocalist and i try to model myself based on your vocals cuz i think you are the best vocalist ive heard in a long time ! i'm done fan girling now . when will you guys come to england ? thanks for being such an insiration! my real name is gary if you get the chance to reply.
Will you ever do a vocal video? I remember you had a tweet about it. I'd love to see one!
Do you miss Jonathan Huber when he was the vocalist of I Declare War? It's been it talks that there may be one Reunion show with ex members of IDW is Seattle Washington, if they happens in the future would Whitechapel consider headlining this show?
im in a metal band (vocalist/guitarist) and im an EXTREMELY friendly person. i just think music is a healthy way to get rid of the bad in you. but in a fun/refreshing way
Hey Phil, what would you be doing if you weren't being a vocalist? Would you have gone to college if you haven't already and if so, then what would you have studied?
What would you say to a vocalist in an unsigned metal band?
Im watcing this in 2020 and the clean vocals came up and i think when a demon defiles a witch.
phil you are my absolute favorite vocals and my biggest idle. my freinds and i are thinking about starting a band.. do you have any tips about vocals for me?
Real question, though. What are your thoughts and feelings on performing at the Mitch Lucker memorial show? I wasn't able to attend, but I've seen footage. That shit was mani (may-knee)!
Dude ur awesome I feel like ur a really chill dude u pretty much like the same stuff as I do haha and ur vocals really inspire me a lot, very awesome I plan to use them for my future band cuz im a guitar player and I also plan to do backup vocals at the same time it would be really nice and hopefully our band progresses in the future and would really be lookin forward to tour with u and ur awesome band whitechapel!!!! :D
Phil, when you tour around the world what is the one place that you always look forward to play in?!
What are your favourite genres outside of metal and what inspires your lyrics?
btw, I saw you guys with Trivium back in 2010 in london and you fucking killed it!
Phil, im interested in knowing where you learned how do such amazing and natural vocals. Please answer !
what are the biggest differences between the US and Europe that you noticed while touring? Like crowds, venues, people in general, etc.
when will the show be reschedualed from when the snow storm came in Mass? i was really bummed!
How sweet is it to be from Tennessee and to live so close to gatlinburg
Whitechapel and lamb of god are my favorite bands. Will you guys ever tour together?
what do you think about good ole country boys listening to metal. town im from I get shitty looks for listening to Whitechapel in my truck
I'm sure it's dependent on how you go about it. When I was in 9th grade I was going to try and do death metal vocals. Make sure you do it correctly, cause I kinda messed mine up. I never got in a band, but I also haven't been able to do it as good as I once could.
did you do a guest vocal with I Declare War in the song Final Hour?
Anyway you guys would do a whole tour playing Somatic all the way through?
Will Whitechapel tour Europe this year? I believe you guys posted something like that on Facebook after cancelling the ABR & TDWP tour. (Then Veil Of Maya took your place. Good replacement though)
What was your all out favorite song to write and perform out of all the albums Whitechapel recorded? Mine is personally 'End of Flesh'.
Have you guys thought about doing a new album? If so, are you expecting it to be heavier like "a new era of corruption" was?
If you could do guest vocals on a track by ANY band, who would it be?
Hey Phil when your working on lyrics for a song do force yourself to write them or is it a spark of idea to make you work on your lyrics?
what is your favorite state to go during a tour? and what tour was it that you remember the most?
Phil
I have a question? What do you prefer to be called, Philly or Phil?
...
By the way, Whitechapel was amazing live at the rock in Tucson AZ, March 9th! Holy shit your screams were orgasmic! Well they always are but they were best live!
Hey Phil, when you're home (or really anywhere else too) and you go out to places in your spare time, how often do you get recognized?
Thanks for answering my question Phil !!
Which tour do you prefer Rockstar mayhem fest or Vans warped tour?
On the Recorrupted EP how come you didn't do vocals on the End Of Flesh (Acoustic Version) ? would you consider doing a clean vocal/acoustic version of a Whitechapel song?
i've always wanted to know what your influence on music was. like what bands (or music genre) do you listen to?
while you were here in utah, I believe you said you loved touring here. Is that true or do you say that everywhere you go?
What is the best up-coming band in your opinion?
could we see a possible full whitechapel cover of unanswered as a bonus track in the future?
Obviously Slipknot was a big influence on you as a musician. What was it like for you getting to tour with them? What bands would you really like to tour with in the future?
In terms of vocal techniques, what has helped you the most to perfect your vocals?
8 years later and now he is singing cleans in Whitechapel
Have you always wanted to be in the music industry or was there something else you always wanted to do? IF you never made it to where you are at now, what most likely would you be doing career wise?
Who is your favorite vocalist of all time?
what was the best part of doing the cover of Strength Beyond Strength?
Phil, how do you think of the lyrics for your songs? they are just totally amazing and fucking brutal i love it.
phil, you're super professional man. thanks for your interviews.
What advice would you give to a vocalist just joining a band and starting to record a demo?
You guys are one of my favorite bands and my 4 yr old loves your stuff too.. Is your music gonna stay heavy, or are you gonna start throwing in clean vocals and or big "hooks"... Id like it either way, just wondering..
Hey phil are all you vocals exhale?? or do you inhale on the odd occasion ? love your vox btw!
if you could swap vocalists one a tour who would you want to play for and who would you want to take your place?
HAAAAAAAA....same thing about cc...i fast forwarded to the end credits to see who that band was so i could get the casette....the rest is history...thought i may have been the only one. AWESOME!!!
What is the theme/idea behind your sleeve, or any of your tattoos?
What was it like performing at the Mitch Lucker memorial show back in December?
It’s funny. He so unsure of his clean vocals. Here in 2021 we have Doom Woods. Man is it good. How you’ve grown Phil
always knew of whitechapel and kinda liked them but I first started screaming to whitechapel and learned i fucking love your music and you!
