    This is absolutely great. This is what I have been practicing at home. It's a tough start for sure. And when I miss I still lose the whole rhythm. I'll get it though.

    Superb. The problem with exercises you see on TH-cam is that you don't remember them once you get to your drum set in the rehearsal room (yes, you can watch it again on your phone once you're there), but this one is as simple as that to remember so there will probably be no problems. 🤘😁

      The problem is that there's a lot of information, and not enough specifics.

    And now on to the actual content: I think you're on to something with this series here Cameron. This is excellent advice, and I love the "neural" approach because a lot of the work with our weak side is to overcome years of underuse of that part of our brain. And with double pedal, is it ever unforgiving... the slightest difference is punishing, if only for the fact that we're only ever as fast as our weak foot.
    The exercices you've been showing (in previous videos and in this one) really help put our minds in the right place, and start developing what should be.
    Finally, I love the fact that power remains an absolute priority for you. There's two types of double bass drummers, really. Those who aim for speed alone (and who welcome triggers, heel-toe, etc.) and those who think it's important to keep trying to bust that kick head with every stroke, because the acoustic humph is what they're going for. And honestly, a double bass roll played hard can sound faster (or let's say more impressive) than a faster but weaker run.
    Power is obviously your approach, and some of your catch phrases (like "get out of the way so the beater comes back to its initial position, if not greater than") have already made their way into the way I think when I'm practicing.
    Thank you for that, as I said, I really think you're on to something here. If truly does help.

      @@CameronFleury already started! but it's already too late for being drumming a sunday where I live! hahaha! gonna continue tomorrow! I'm having real fun with this exercise! I've been practicing almost only weak-side leading like from march and it feels like learning drums again after 20 years! and this is an other exercise to add to the arsenal in this path! Thank you again for your work and for sharing this great idea! Sure I'll make you know if it works and how much! Salutes too to the master of metal drumming independence Mr. Cohen! what a beast of a drummer!!!

    of course, there is the double pedal issue itself. I don't know how equal both sides are on let's say, Axis, Trick, Tama Iron Cobras or DW, but I have the Mapex Falcon double pedal. It's a beast and it's heavy. I also is difficult to get both pedals just so, to use the left side as easily as the right. It just seems to be that connecting shaft that holds it back.
    I've made adjustments time and time again. I recently bought the "Direct Drive" links, which make a big difference. Also, before I even installed them, I took them apart and greased everything that I could get grease on (marine grade, so it wouldn't run or get too messy). I also greased the rest of the pedal assemblies this past year too, which helped. But after all kinds of adjustments with the springs and all, it still just doesn't get there. I do have to say, that I have my Falcon pedals for over 10 years and they are as tight and smooth as when I first bought them. Maintenance, greasing and lubricating are key.

    • @CameronFleury
      @CameronFleury  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It's almost always the driveshaft that's causing this.

    • @hoozerob
      @hoozerob หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@CameronFleuryHow many double pedals have you used, and do they all inherently have the drive-shaft issue?

    • @CameronFleury
      @CameronFleury  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hey! I’ve used a bunch of double pedals. Some have drive-shaft issues while others are smooth sailing. Just gotta find the right one for your style!

    After 10 years without using a double pedal, I bought one and started practicing again about 6 months ago. I expected it to feel awkward, and it does. While I practiced a lot of left-foot exercises when studying jazz, the mechanics are different.
    One challenge is the slave pedal feeling slow and unresponsive. My left foot has developed a different movement compared to my right. I can play steady at 125 bpm for 10 minutes, and I practiced both feet individually, but I still can’t sync them together. Feels odd to say this, but I just want my right foot to match my left 🫠.

    I have this really weird thing with my DD pedals where my right pedal is always quite a bit heavier and it's really frustrating, even tho i've even gone as far to pull the beater back a tiny bit on the left slave pedal and raised the height, it's still lighter on the left. It doesn't hold me back too much but on bad days i start to notice it especially when going in fast bursts. Would you have any explanation for why that's happening or could it be a hardware problem?

    This is gonna help A tonne I think on my weak foot. I've started playing open handed, and alternating singles like in 1/4s /8 and /16's But I still find that pedal just feels 'weird' so I know EXACTLY what you are talking about. I think If I look at as just basically playing and ostinato between my Left hand and foot, I can trick my brain, because I already do it elsewhere. I think once I can clean that up, then the sky's the limit. Thanks Cam!
