Heh-I wasn’t polled but as the owner of two ICE vehicles, you can count me in as the group thinking of getting an EV in five years. My cars are in good or great shape and well, in five years, EV choices will be more plentiful as well as the infrastructure and battery technology improving by then. I just paid off my 2017 loan a year ago and I’m not exactly ready to get another loan with todays high interest rates(my last loan was 0 percent!). I like EVs and their technology. I also support switching to them to get AWAY from OPEC. Great video! Keep up the good work!

Why force anyone to buy a scan tool? There is more than enough computer and display to do it with existing hardware? As I see it a software defined EV should be able to diagnose itself with a much higher level of certainty than ICE. Something stinks !

    • @tesla_tap
      @tesla_tap 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

I suspect the scan tool companies pushed this through. On Tesla, anyone can access the service details directly from the display, and it provides graphics and far greater details than any scan tool codes.

I've been saying this for years, even with my old ICE car. I have an EV now and use a simple dongle and an app on my phone to get all kinds of really useful info on the state of the EV system and there are similar solutions for ICE vehicles. But, as you say, this could easily be incorporated into modern cars, ICE or EV, since almost all new cars have a center display now. I suspect the reason is that automakers don't want to rob their dealers from that cash cow of repairs and maintenance.

I anticipate that my next car will be a Tesla, so the UAW contract doesn't interest me very much. The unionized manufacturers can't seem to make an affordable EV at their current contract rates, much less any profit on them, so even higher costs doesn't sound promising for their future.

The numbers don't tell a mixed story for aggregate market demand. It's up 50% over a year ago, as you say. What is mixed about that? Yes, numbers do move around day to day, week to week, and month to month. So what? What several of the automakers are trying to say is that they will not be investing at the pace they have announced. Why? One suspects it is because their BEV models aren't selling as well as they hoped. Why is this an aggregate market demand issue? It isn't.

I have a couple of military HMMWVs that are in desperate need of an electric conversion. The current diesel power vibrates so much at highway speeds that a wide variety of nuts and bolts back themselves out and sometimes go missing. I have to bring spares and tools to bolt everything back together when I arrive to where I’m going. They also like to flip the belts over and run them upside down so I carry spare belts for when it chews through them. It’s pretty ridiculous.

That Volvo graphic seemed to show the van charging another car via a jumper cable. That is a fantastic idea. One interesting twist to VTG technology might be the invention of special cables that make the host vehicle think it's supplying the grid when it's really charging another vehicle. The cable would also need to trick to the other vehicle into thinking it is getting power from a charger. We have always used jumper cables to start ICE cars so EV rescue is a natural idea. I wonder if Volvo or anyone else has a patent on that yet?

Parsing this EV sales stuff is not really rocket science imho:
    - Lazy legacy compliance EVs down.
    - Tesla EV sales up.
    Reasons:
    - Legacy pricing not attractive - stealership markups, loss leader due to low volume, unoptimized platforms, union baggage.
    - Bad stealership experience - antiselling EVs, bait n switch, bad treatment of EV customers, lack of EV expertise, bad service.

They have a chance now to universally choose an easy option for vehicle diagnostics. None of this 12 pin 16 pin 38 pin nonsense. Just use an ethernet cable that everything else uses. 1 gig is standard now and transmits data thousands of times faster than any OBD2 tool. Most of the time the data can be read from a diagnostic screen, unless of course the screen is what is having the problem.

If Toyota is the world's biggest car producer then they have a huge influence on the buying public, therefore turning there back on BEVs is not
going to advance the acceptance of these vehicles and that could be said of the entire Japanese car industry. China alone could sway far more buyers with cheap BEVs but at the cost to the others. Gas guzzlers like the Chevy Suburban shown are prime candidates for battery conversion if you must have one.

As noted, Fain may have "promised" too much. Obviously, "negotiating 101" deems that one aims high, then acquiesces, but it's unclear just how many of the rank & file understand this. There's no doubt some will hold out for 32/hr work weeks & top pay near $200K/yr. I pray sensible, pragmatic minds prevail. The alternative is simply too grim to contemplate.

Nothing to do with Shawn's promises... this is due to the division created by the tiers... legacy wants to retire but can't without retiree healthcare...legacy gains nothing from lower pay workers being made equal. This is why they are voting no.... unfortunately if you give the legacy what they want and don't give lower workers what they want then you have the opposite group voting no... this is why we can't have a divided union.... shawn cannot fight for retiree healthcare for everyone UNTIL we are made whole.....remember we are coming out of decades of corruption and created division....

All of the revisionist nostalgic dreams of the past are gone and has been gone since the late 90's. It's no longer a bargaining option. If people don't like their jobs, they are welcome tongo find other jobs. Employers don't owe anything to the uaw that they relinquished, and they never promised them they would return either. Working in a plant is a choice, don't like what the job offers, do something else. Rather simple.
