    I’m blown away by how Kia has progressed, and also admittedly embarrassed by my past cynicism.
    Persona anecdote: I drove a 3 series BMW back when I met my now wife, who’s family all drove Kias. I came from a family who were all pretentious about what they drove. At the time she drove a Kia Soul, and I remember scoffing at it like an asshole.
    That little thing took us everywhere, was with us during some really tough times. The BMW was pretty quick to go when misfortune struck, but that Kia stayed. Terrific car in ever sense. It humbled me, and I learned to try and look past my prejudices and not judge a book by its cover.

      In Korea who gives a damn if they copied, it’s an incredible car, just like a lot of their cars today. Hell, the other day I saw a Forte and was genuinely suprised at how good they look.

    • @BrooXX856
      @BrooXX856 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In Korea obviously people don’t, if they did, the Stinger wouldn’t get the praise it does. Rather Kia “copy someone,” and make a good car, then do their own thing and make a shit one. No one gives a damn, I promise you, except maybe BMW, but it doesn’t matter if they care or not.

      CVTs are pretty standard for cars in this class. A DCT would be nice, but they would add to the cost and 90% of the people buying these cars aren't going to care. DCTs also have their own issues with around town driving. I'm not a fan of CVTs in crossovers or larger sedans, but for these little compact cars, they serve their purpose. A CVT that mimics gears. There’s the problem, if they’re gonna put a CVT in it then I personally think it should behave how it’s designed to, not behave like something it isn’t. As a car enthusiast I could actually put up with a CVT if it didn’t act like a traditional automatic transmission.

    Now on to the car. I actually like the exterior of the vehicle. The taillights and LED running lights in the front make it look premium. Cars like this, the Chevy Bolt, and the previous generation QX-50 that have turn signal lights on the rear bumper might be unique but sort of stupid (I know Audi SUV’s and Mini’s have them as well. But they are used as backup not the main light). As soon as you get rear-ended the chances of your turn signals malfunctioning would be greatly higher. There’s a reason why rear lights do not go into the bumper anymore.

The same for when putting it in drive, it stayed on for 2-3 seconds before shutting off.

    Gotta say Kia and Hyundai are knocking out of the park. This is easily on par with the focus/jetta/cruze/3. Still a little behind the Corolla/Civic though. But hey, if you told me 5 years ago that the Korean car companies would be serious competition to the non Toyota/Honda compacts
    It needs the 1.6 turbo from the soul/veloster to be an optimal daily driver

      I have driven all of them except obviously the new Forte. I would say the Sentra and Corolla are the worst in the class the Civic I just didn't like driving it just didn't feel right. The Elantra drove nicely and the New jetta drove nice but not really high on the looks. We had a mazda 3 Grand Touring that we just traded in for a fully loaded Kia Niro it is my wife's car. The Mazda had a nice interior and power but the ride quality was to sporty for long drives and wife wanted a hybrid. I would say for a Daily driver I would take the Hyundai, Kia or the Jetta or Golf if you want a hatchback.

Granted I have had the 6 speed auto in every single one that has been a great transmission so time will tell with the new CVI trans. I'm not going to bash it because this is Kia's version and it might not be the junk CVT's we are used to seeing. But I wouldn't get the 2019 until a few years pass to see how good that CVI really is. • @rightwingsafetysquad9872
      @rightwingsafetysquad9872 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      +RS1 If it mimics gear shifts, it's not going to get better mileage than a traditional automatic would be slightly worse than a DCT. Most CVTs (including this one I believe) still have torque converters which are the driving reason automatics used to get worse economy than manuals. The only way a CVT does better than an 8-speed automatic is to be truly continuous (or very nearly so because a chain drive will have to move in definite, but tiny, increments) and/or use a clutch instead of a torque converter.

    • @rightwingsafetysquad9872
      @rightwingsafetysquad9872 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @RS1 The CVT could be made better than the auto was, but if it is simulating 8 gars (as it is), it's not because of it being a CVT that they get better mileage. Also, please don't compare good autos to the one in the Cruze, despite inventing the automatic transmission, GM's 6 speed auto is absolutely terrible. I'd give more credit to the Atkinson engine and reduced weight for Kia's better mileage over last generation. As for autos doing better than manuals, it's not inherent to the tech, it's because designers of manuals haven't figured out to make 6th and 5th very low ratios like they do in autos, if they did that then manuals would do slightly better than 6-speed autos again.

    12:45 mark, "A lot of people are actually probably purchasing these vehicles as their first brand new car..." Why "first"? I have owned a dozen cars in my life, some were new, but I would gladly buy a new car like this one. I have no need for an SUV, and no need for a mid-size or large sedan, to say nothing of a pickup truck. We all need to reflect a bit more about what our needs really are, and maybe try to consume a little less. Anyway, thanks Sofyan for this great video, very well done and informative as always.
