  • 2019 Kia Forte Review. In this review, we take an in depth look at the brand new 2019 Kia Forte. We look at the Forte's Exterior, Interior, and take it out for a Drive. In a world where sedans seem to be leaving in place of crossovers, does the Kia Forte still have a place? I think so, and thank you for watching my Kia Forte Review.

      Exhaust Sports Auto I actually have the snow pearl white EX. I don’t have a sun roof or the wireless charging or anything like that though. This comment is going to be a little all over the place, so I’m sorry in advance. I went car shopping with my parents and boyfriend and it was an experience lol. My mom wanted a rear view camera and heated seats, my dad used to be a car salesman so he was looking for how solid a car is and the warranty, and my boyfriend is a car guy and really likes manuals. I really just wanted something that was going to take me from point a to point b, was spacious, and would still feel and be fast because I was used to riding a car pretty rough (I was driving a 2000 Mitsubishi Eclipse before the Forte) but I also wanted something that would please everyone, especially because they would also be driving my car. It hit every single point that everyone was looking for. Heated/cooling seats, rear camera and front and rear sensors, side mirror warning and LKA, 10 year/100,000 mile warranty on the power train, and the sport shift really pleased everyone. It’s comfortable, the safety features really put my parents at ease, and the speed and sport shift really pleases my boyfriend. This car really has something for everyone. I was in between the new Toyota Hatchback, a Nissan Sentra, and a Honda Civic, when we decided to hit the Kia dealership for fun and try out an optima. Never even got in the optima when I saw the Forte. The red/black leatherette interior really caught my eye and I couldn’t be more pleased with everything about this car. I got it back in November 2018, and in February 2019, and I’m not much of a car person, but I’m still very in love with it.
      When you mentioned the black material on the steering wheel, I was nodding so hard! It looks sleek and it’s a nice aesthetic, but it get so dusty and the fingerprints drive me crazy! I get my car detailed every two weeks now lol.

I'm so glad the Forte worked out for you it is a good little car and has a lot of promise. I'm glad your boyfriend also likes this CVT trans it won me over as well. I'm also happy to hear you still enjoy your new Forte. Congrats and thank you so much for watching take care!

      @@MeynMotorGroup I agree!! However, the main thing I don't like about the car though is for me, I have trouble getting into the 30s with gas mileage. Any tips or things I should change in my driving habits aside from not flooring it?

    • @MeynMotorGroup
      @MeynMotorGroup  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hmm do you have the automatic? It should be a piece of cake to be averaging 30mpg in any car of this segment. In automatic cars I delay hiting the brakes, so coasting having your foot off the gas is the best thing and just let the engine brake for you by letting the RPMs drop. But obviously do this in safety depending on circumstances. But yea dude even when I trash these cars I get 30mpg you shouldn’t have to try hard to get that number. Maybe take it to a dealer to get it checked out see if the electronics are reading right?

    • @MeynMotorGroup
      @MeynMotorGroup  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also I drove in normal and smart mode those are the best modes, and if you drive in normal a lot, try smart

    • @44dbzfan
      @44dbzfan 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MeynMotorGroup Ahh. I like to use the manual sport mode in the car. I typically average 29mpg in the city and 32hwy. It kinda gets to me sometimes because even when I'm driving economically I feel like I should be getting about 35-37mpg. Though I usually fill up once a week maybe twice depending on how much I drive of course. But I'll take it to the dealership and get it tested. Other than that, I feel like the car is definitely up there with the honda civics and Elantras easily! Thank you for your help and amazing review man!!! Keep it up!

    Bought 2020 Kia Forte 6 months ago fully agree with your review. It is a fun car, mostly drive in smart mode but use sport mode which gives extra power boost. Drive on dirt roads, city and highway handles great. Comfortable seats. The tech is great. Big screen makes easy use while on the road. Easily get 40 +mpg on short 30 mile drives and longer distances. In town stop and start averaging 38 mpg. Would definitely buy again.

    Bought this car 1 month ago today (EX launch edition), and I love it. It's fun to drive, took it on some empty canyon roads for the first time, and it seemed to enjoy being pushed...not to say that it's "quick", haha...but it is fun to drive! The CVT is surprisingly responsive, and does a good job of pretending not to be a CVT, which is the best praise that I can give a CVT. Handling is easy, the steering is light, but I don't mind that at all. The mileage is awesome, even when I drive like an idiot, I get 30 MPG easy. The features and trim make me smile every time I get in. I do appreciate having physical buttons to do simple things, without having to use the touchscreen, which is also very responsive and easy to use. Knocking it out the park, Kia! Good stuff!
    BTW, the launch edition only comes in the "Fire Orange" color, not sure if they had different colors for the press cars, but if you want the EX launch, they only come in ORAAAAANGE! SO ORANGE!

    Bought one a month ago, when my 05 Caddy CTS became too expensive to maintain. I was worried about the horsepower, but the Forte handles itself well through the mountains in Appalachia, and fits right on I-95. I’m from São Paulo, Brazil, and I just got this car for 20k USD (112k BRL), yes it seems too much, but Corolla or Civic are just pricing prohibitive (35k USD with same features). It’s funny to see you guys in the US get features we don’t get in Brazil and vice versa. For instance: we do have paddle shifts for sport transmission mode, but we do not get the glass ceiling or the 17’ inch wheels. We get 169 horse power engine, but not wireless charging for phones. I can say: it’s a great car! Very good for quick daily commute and long highway trips to beach with my wife and daughter. I do not miss my Jeep Compass Sport

    I've had the entry level EX for nine months now. There's been a rattle since one month old on the right side either the dash or passenger door. The dealer can't replicate the issue.
    The suspension is really stiff. Most roads ride fine but on unpaved scrubbed uneven roads its pretty uncomfortable.
    The car is so light that on sudden raised road surfaces the car does a little hop.
    What a gas champ though. Can you believe this: 80% HWY 20% city average 5.4 to 5.7 per litre. 860KLM on a full tank of gas no AC no heat. Overall I'm pleased with the car. 7.5 out of 10.

Unfortunately it was totaled but definitely recommend for those who want amenities but also budget friendly. I live down south and when it down-poured when I was stopped the roof didn’t have much noise insulation though. Only draw back for me.

    Thanks for the nice review. Yes, the Forte offers a lot of driver safety features, but according to KIA's website, you can't get Blind Spot Collision Warning unless you go to the EX model (Is there a model above EX?) Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA) with Pedestrian Detection is an OPTION only on EX and above (Forward Collision WARNING is standard, however. The Forte is on my short list for a new car, though the dash/console area is a bit "chrome blingy" for my taste.

    Enjoyed and agree with your review though I think it would have been good to mention the numerous safety and technological features (forward collision warning and braking, lane keeping warning and assist, driver attention warning, blind spot warning, rear cross-traffic warning, tire pressure management system, Apple Car Play and Android Auto, heated front seats and steering wheel) that aren't available on most compact cars (or only on high trim models) but were available on the inexpensive Canadian Forte EX trim level (Canada has LX MT, LX, EX, EX+, EX Premium and EX Limited). Also longer warranty than most (even better in the US). We've had ours for 1-1/2 months (sold our 2007 Mazda 3) including 5-hour trips on successive days which didn't bother my back at all (ours has 16" alloy wheels and Kumho's). I really like our Forte though I wish power seats were an option (not just available on high trim levels), that all power window buttons had Auto-down (not just driver's), had spare tire (real or compact) not just tire inflator/repair kit (I think US versions do have spare) and more colour choices than red, blue, white, black and three shades of grey. I hope it proves to be reliable.

    I traded in my Rio for a 2020 Forte LX. Bigger engine, yet better gas mileage. It's great on the highway. The steering wheel in the LX can telescope AND tilt, a major selling point for extra tall drivers (in the Rio, it doesn't tilt). My only complaints: the steering wheel isn't heated, unlike the Rio (I'm in Canada); the Bluetooth doesn't work properly -- you have to use a USB cable to project Android Auto on the screen; the seats are a bit hard.

    I have owned my 2019 kia forte for a couple of months and absolutely love it! It won't win any races and it is not the fastest car in the world but I get a certain gratification pushing that little motor hard. I enjoy driving a slow car fast. I would recommend this car for anyone looking for a nice ride that gets great gas mileage. You are absolutely right about the car having a soul and are spot on with that comment. Great review on such a fantastic car! I thought that I would add that I did own the Kia Stinger and then downgraded to the Forte. My friends and family looked at me like I just completely lost my mind. But I am telling you that speed is not everything and the Forte in my opinion handles better than the Stinger.

    Thanks for the review! I've watched a few others as well, and I think yours might have been the most helpful! I really like the look of the Forte 2019, and I'm particularly interested in the EX trim, maybe the launch package if I can find it at a good price! I've been looking at cars around the $15k range, but since I plan on my next car being the one I keep for the long haul, I don't think I'd mind spending extra to get the gimmicks like the cooled seats, and getting a fully new car, and $20k doesn't seem unreasonable for me for a car like this. Finally got the time to watch the full video... excellent review... subscribing!!!
    I love the design, but what bothers me the most are those piano black trims on the steering and doors. I can live with the separated indicator+backing lights on the back (Sportage had that)... but the gloss black plastic trim on the steering is such a DUMB decision. It’d always show dirt and that door trim would get scratched up pretty easily. I noticed that the same trim on the Forte K3 GT hatchback (Korean version) has ambient lighting that illuminates through the dotted designs.
    Anyway, I’m just curious about the handing being so quick, does that also force you to constantly make small corrections while you’re driving straight on a highway?

    • @MeynMotorGroup
      @MeynMotorGroup  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks so much for your support I’m so happy you found value in it.
      Yea I was referring to the gloss black plastic in my interior rant haha worst part they put it on the door handle as well which is a high traffic area. I wish manufacturers would use that fake plastic aluminum trim more that looks very good and never shows any wear plus it’s still cheap.
      You don’t have to use much correction driving one handed on the high way I believe it speed senses and slows down the steering a bit, smart mode just cruising will slow it down a bit as well and naturally if you go for options with smaller sized wheels will make this an enjoyable daily.

    • @Sami.the.auto.advisor
      @Sami.the.auto.advisor 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, I totally agree... manufacturers should refrain from using gloss black plastic on high traffic areas. I hate some of the newer trends on cars like the gloss black plastic, fake vents, fake exhausts and climate controls buried inside the digital infotainment system.
      I prefer the push-button start, BSM and LED headlights... only the EX launch edition offers that for now. The S (and maybe the upcoming GT Line) trim does have LED headlights as options but lacks the push-button start and BSM. Anyway, thanks a lot for your inputs and keep up the great work.

Thank you

    Hmmm. I'm considering trading in my 2017 Toyota Corolla LE for a 2019 Forte LXS. How's the acceleration on this car? I'm fine with the acceleration on my Corolla. This Forte offers so much more, and the dealership is giving it to me for $15,500 plus TTL. It sucks Toyota won't offer Android Auto till 2020 or 2021.

    • @MeynMotorGroup
      @MeynMotorGroup  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It would be a bit faster than the corolla I believe corolla is in the 9 second range and this Forte is in the 8 second range. The fastest is the civic at 6.5 seconds in the 1.5 turbo however I will always go naturally aspirated with these motors. A lot of these times are achieved by brake boosting the vehicle and nobody drives like that on the street. Turbo motors fall flat very quick in the high rpms, but try them all see what you like best

    Hey Kevin, I liKe the Forte a lot. Waiting for the SX (think that’s the name of the turbo version). Leasing a base Stinger now but it just feels so big. Another gripe is no emergency hand brake (it’s a floor pedal-yuk). What would you have between the two? Base Stinger or a loaded Forte SX? Also liked your Mazda 3 test & noticed comments in favor of 3 over the Forte. I see their point, but Mazda styling just doesn’t make me glow like a night-light in shit. That, of course, is personal taste. Finally, you gotta wonder who named those tires...KUMHO??? In KS there is a chain of convenience stores named Kum-N-Go (seriously). 😂 Your videos just get better. So many others are just stale. Take care Kevin!

      Hey Steven, thanks so much for your kind words, and regarding the Forte, yea the GT sport should be out with the Turbo. I do like the Forte and I like the looks however, the Kia Soul is actually a car that drives identical to the Forte but rides better. I know it doesn’t look as good but it’s very practical and costs about the same. I don’t like that turbo engine with the automatic, the set up just doesn’t feel linear to me, feels fine with a manual. The Elantra sport with a manual would feel amazing but I’m assuming you’re trying to break your stinger lease. I think the Forte or Soul with a stick can be very enjoyable. I hope this helps!

    I just saw your review because I have put the Kia Forte on my list of cars for 2020. You covered nearly everything that I consider important in a car review and your comments are great. (I agree about the piano black material - we don't need this in cars.) Your comments about the IVT are much appreciated because I had my doubts about this. For 2020, there is a Kia Forte GT_line that still uses the 2.0L engine and seems like a really good value. (yes, there is a GT turbo version that does not interest me)

      @@MeynMotorGroup I did just look at your Kia Soul review and I will put the Soul EX on my "must drive" list and will try to drive it back to back with the Forte. I appreciate your comments on the dual clutch transmission and will probably avoid it. As I see it now, the Forte wins on fuel economy and a bit more on value (since there seems to be bigger discounts on it). But the Soul wins on smooth ride and hatch versatility. I also like how short and tall it is. I see in Canada they now have the Forte5 with the 2.0 engine. Any chance we will get it here in the US?

    • @MeynMotorGroup
      @MeynMotorGroup  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I really doubt we will get a hatch here in the states since they don’t seem to sell well. Had no idea the Forte was being heavily incentivized, more base models with 16” wheels will help the Forte ride better so that’s good. But yea try them all out see what you like, I heard the Elantra was similar to the Forte but even more comfortable as well if you wanted to add that to your roster. Thanks again for stopping by and checking out the reviews my friend

    I own a 2017 Elantra. They have a 2.0 Atkinson cycle variant of the Nu engine. I would stay away. Mine, and according to many reports the dealer told me they get, is they make a loud ticking/tapping noise when cold. It sounds like a diesel. Dealer reported Hyundai said it was normal because the metal shrinks in cold weather. I have never ever had a car do this in cold weather and I have had my fair share of bombs. I bought it used so am only covered up to 60000 miles. I said to Hyundai ok if this is so normal cover my car to the full 10 year 100000 mile warranty. They just keep giving me the run around. I mean if there is no issue with the car it would not cost them anything to give the full powertrain warranty. I have no confidence in the longevity of this engine and unfortunately it looks like they are putting these in more models like the Kona. Also I think these engines are in the Kia Forte and other Kia models.
