      I have been saying this since they came on the scene in the 90's. Have seen them twice recently, and he has to be by far, one of best guitarists and lyricist currently in the music industry. How these guys have never exploded across the industry is beyond me. He truly is an example of the perfect artist with talents in all aspects of music.

      He's too much of a genius to the point where he loses that mainstream audience. Fame and money comes at a cost. Usually it means you can't do everything you want but end up compromising. It's a balance.

      @ericbrewerguitar1499 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      He actually just touches the harmonic 12 frets above where his slide is at, then glissando up. It has a completely different sound than a pinch harmonic (though you could prob get that to work as well). Ian is a wizard plain and simple

    I’m watching this, and I’m definitely a huge fan of the band and Ian’s playing in particular. Something that I’m taking away from this interview is how absolutely down to earth, unpretentious and humble he is. The amount of talent vs the absolute accessibility to what he knows and what he’s experienced is amazing. When you gravitate towards players, influences, sometimes you’re let down by their personalities. Not the case here.

    Let's be clear about one thing: Big Wreck is the only remaining 90s rock band that remembers that guitar solos are integral to rock and roll! Sadly most bands seem to forget this. Ian Thornley is the last of a dying breed imo.

    • @lancecass8997
      @lancecass8997 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Here's the real sad part. Record companies have replaced guitar solos with vocal oohs and aaahhhs and lalalas. Why? Because top 40 average people sing along. They change the channel if they hear a solo. I know, at first I was like, who would do that? Apparently most people. We don't, or our friends, because we play or love music. Try riding in a car with the other demographic. It's so sad to see that this is true. My ex would, like someone with A.D.D, change on every solo. Said it was the boring part. Rarely do they finish a song without skipping, they want to sing along, Mindlessly so. No care about the quality of music. It's sad. We need another musical revolution. It's slowly happening, and Big Wreck is in the forefront. Pray for it and hang on guys. This time the record companies are fading, so hopefully it will be lasting.

      Compressor helped me too. Thicker strings and a medium height action will also help. 10s minimum for standard tuning. 11 or 12 on the highest string for anything open G/ DADGAD, otherwise I find the string simply too slack to play with much conviction without fretting out

Look at the premier guitar guys that do the artist rig interviews, gear and rig rundowns. They have little to no idea half the time what gear even does. It always amazes me. Not just that he has the knowledge. The dude wants to share it. I’ve met him a couple times and as soon as you start asking about technique, or influences, or gear, he just starts gushing information. I spent an entire headliner set chatting with him and watching at a show. He treated me like an old buddy he’d known for years. It informed how I talk to people after shows. And it’s a memory I’ll keep close my entire life. He’s not just good. He’s a class act.

Once I get it set up, I’ll plug my Triple Rectifier into it and record something. Difficult to do though when you have small children running around everywhere. Maybe this weekend sometime. I’ve played it through several amps though. The guitar retains its character pretty well from amp to amp. The switching options are really useful. I’ve used it for jazz, and for death metal. And just about anything you can think of in between.

    Oh dear, folks of the viewer comment bin 🤦‍♂️.
    Ian is not underrated. He possibly prefers to not want to have to manage the admin of popularity and mainstream Guitarist ogling, chatter, banter, comparisons et al.
    I don't pretend to speak for him, as I said: possibly. Because I can imagine it well as an introvert.
    It is quite possible and nifty at the same time to be somewhat "undercover" and still be able to smoke most big-mouths to silence and contemplation. As if everybody wants to be main, and "looky it's me". Oh the world of idiots. Wasted rant, I'm guessing.
    My favourite part of this very good piece of content, is: (at risk again of sounding negative) Dan with fake nervous giggle and smile saying: "hey, how're you... eh-eh, slow down...". 😂 Precious beyond gold. Amazing IP and content Ian T. Peace and Let People Be, Peeps who don't know better. 🤦‍♂️

    Ian instead of embarrassing your fans during a concert for pic n video taking ....you need to remember those are the fans that made you !!! Check your ego !
