- 2024 is the year of hoya, anthurium & begonia - I can feel the power of this trio!
I'm a plant hobbyist passionate about plant care, cats and ice cream. I plan to post weekly throughout the year, subscribe to see more of my collection and watch my plant-y growth!
Oh! And I'm also on Instagram: / smallcityplants

I really would love a Hoya Spartioides! And those dark Anthurium...
Dark anthurium + funky hoya
Love the Hoyas you are interested in
The Hoya’s foliage is very pretty
Not saying I just got a besseae aff for a good price at Ecuagenera but not saying I didn't... ;)
I have my eye on their site for sure - spring import is looking more and more likely....
What a lovely kitty Bowie is, and so happy and loved! Now to the plants. Unlike you, I'm not into anthurium or begonias personally--too many anthurium look the same to me, and while I love looking at other folks's begonias, no desire to deal with them here, except for the hardy and floriferous outdoor types I grow during the summer. Hoyas, on the other hand, love them too, and several of the species you mention here aren't too hard to find. So good luck with your hunts for this year. PS as a longtime plant person/horticultural geek, it's OKAY to pronounce botanical names however--we don't often hear them in conversation so it is hard sometimes to find out how they are pronounced. We all know what we're talking about regardless of pronunciation. You got this!
Thank you! :)
I like your wishlist 😊, accept for the Begonia. Thats because I'm a serial begoniakiller 😂
That's what I said last year 😬
Hoya pulchra is rather glossy, leathery ;)
Really?! Interesting, I wouldn't have gotten that from the photos - doesn't matter, still on the wishlist though ;)
Great list! I've also heard that besseae aff. can be difficult but the one I have behaves like any other velvet leaf anthurium. The emergents are striking!
That's good to hear (cause I may have one arriving soon...)
There is a Leptotes bicolor too. Another little orchid that grows in similar conditions is Cattleya luteola. They keep moving around Laelia milleri, its a cute little red flowering one. If you find an orchid grower into smaller orchids they can point you in the right direction.
Also begonia is such a huge genus, I really like begonias that aren't that exciting, maybe a little weird, like B angularis, B. herbacea, B. thiemei.
Cattleya luteola & Laelia milleri are so pretty! I definitely think I need to do some exploring with orchids and find my footing with them, I'm drawn to the smaller ones - there's an orchid show in a few weeks here so that may help :)
@@smallcityplants I used to grow them in Florida, my problem is light, I live in a cave.
I love the spartioides so weird and funky but I also love the retusa definitely adding to my wish list
