This review is for a version of the backpack that doesn't exist. I bought one on the strength of this review, and it lacks several of the features mentioned, and differs from teh images in the video in many ways. There are no bottom anchor points or straps; there is no top pocket; there are no pen and other dividers inside the front pocket; there is no whistle. The one I got is much cheaper in quality and features than the one in this video.
Oh yes, a huge problem with "official" videos and marketing. These days we rely on TH-camrs "like us" who know what we want to see and know when shopping for a bag. Thank you Jack for publishing this video.
I'm curious how this backpack does standing up on its own? I know it's silly, but traveling or at school, it's one of those pet peeves of mine when they fall over.
Is it my impression or there really are two versions of this bag? One with a front pocket and zip, and back compartment that fully opens. The other without and a back compartment that does not fully open.
This is the first video of yours I have watched. I am wondering about your Nalgene water bottle comment. How is Nalgene saving the planet? For years they were involved in animal testing industries, and put out products that made people sick. I am wondering specifically about your support of Nalgene.
+Dino Corvino Greetings! Great question, glad you asked! To be honest, I was not familiar with these facts you are presenting. That certainly is appalling I agree! I meant on more of a plastic conservation perspective, being from Southern California that is one of the main thoughts I consider daily. As a surfer, I see less plastic in our oceans as a benefit of using Nalgene water bottles, or any re-usable water bottles for that matter. I understand your concern with BPA in earlier models of Nalgene bottles, and Nalgene has since converted to 100% BPA free bottles just like the one you see in the video. Overall you have presented some solid facts that deem examination. Glad you could educate another human! I'd love to hear if you have any other recommendations for other bottles. Kindly, Jack
Sure Jack, thanks. I believe in Klean Kanteen. I have had one of their bottles for over ten years, and it has travelled the world with me. They are a agreat company, with direct access to customer service, and they are willing to work with you if you break there gear. I think it is important to move past plastic. I hope someday to hand my bottle down to a youngster I meet on the road, and let it take them further along. Just take a look at some of the great metal bottles out there today. Klean Kanteen, Hydroflask, some of the others. It might be something that triggers some other thoughts. (Oh, one more thing, you should reach out to Jason at GoRuck, and review his gear)
because of this video, I ordered it for school. thanks, great video.
Alex Thistlewaite facts 😂
Starts talking quieter at 2:28 so you turn up the volume, then the dude blasts us with a whistle. Great.

Hi, thank you for this helpful review and for showing all the inside pockets :) that's something I found missing on Patagonia's own official videos.
No Problem! Happy to help

+iliarosa7 stands up well!
thanks for your reviewing! great to know it before I buy this. really helpful!
Would have appreciated it if you adjusted the straps before doing the turn around. Completely changes how it sits on your back.
i can’t find the model you are using in the video. i can’t find a refugio with a top zipper compartment.
every refugio i see has a vertical zip and no small pocket on top.
Great backpack, i love Patagonia.
+572checo21 tottaly agree!

+David Cesarino yes there are multiple models of the particular bag, this was the older model
Will my heavy books get wet in the rain while wearing this during a rainy day?
Thx for the review!
+London Chamberlain yes! This is not a waterproof bag, would highly reccomend a small rain cover for your pack on rainy days :)
Bushwhack Jack
Thx!
