@@ocdandanxiety Hi, so I don't have OCD, but I do have severe anxiety, can your videos still help me? When you describe OCD, it also really says me to a T. So, What's the difference between OCD and anxiety? My therapist has been really helping me, and I'm starting to calm down more, but my anxiety does come back from time to time, and my therapist is seeing that I don't have OCD but is helping me to manage my anxiety

The tricks that my OCD plays on me:
    • Your situation is very different from others and nobody will understand you
    • You are using OCD as an excuse to deny the fact that you are a bad person or you want to do inappropriate things or you have done inappropriate things.
    • You are undeserving of compassion.
Although I'm doing a little bit well now after suffering from HOCD, Real Event and False Memory OCD, I would give some tips to the people who are dealing these problems:
    • Don't compare yourself with others. Everyone is different and everyone have their own unqiue struggles.
    • Don't get fooled by the thoughts those I mentioned above. Your OCD is Not different. Treat those thoughts like you don't care about them. Respond with "Maybe, maybe not" or totally agree with those thoughts in a way like you don't care. Allow yourself to feel any discomfort or anxiety. Remember that *NO PAIN, NO GAIN.* So, don't seek reassurance.
    • If your OCD says you don't deserve to engage in your favourite hobby, do the opposite of what your OCD tells you.
    • Be patient with yourself and remember that recovery is not a destination, it is a gradual process by which you can become more resilient. Use setbacks as opportunities for improvement.

@@marketaturicikova8177 Having a thought doesn't mean you are evil. You can't control your thoughts. And thoughts are not themselves good or bad inherently. Thoughts are just thoughts. If you treat a thought like a thought, then your anxiety will fade away.

Nathan is not only a pro at what he does, he's also innovative, studies the latest science, and actually talks to people in a way that is just like talking to another person at your level, even though he is really skillful. It's insane that this video topic dropped when I feel the exact same way described. I suddenly haven't been feeling anxious and the thoughts/triggers I've been having don't give me anxiety (nearly as much) as they did a few days ago. Now my only worry is about why I'm not worrying about things.

I just wanna let everyone know that you can get yourself out the OCD bubble. Just like Nathan explained at the beginning of the video, my symptoms have drastically improved. However, I had a turbulent moment at work the other day. I was reading about trauma when, all of a sudden, I got the thought “What if I'm psychotic and I don't know it? What if I'm feeling or hearing things that aren't actually there?” I immediately went to Reddit and opened up ChatGPT, lol. But then I realized quickly that I was compulsing and couldn't do it. So, I closed out all the tabs and sat with that gut-wrenching anxiety. I made it back home in one piece and even had a humorous conversation with a friend on the phone. I don't even remember where that thought came from. But in any case, stay strong, OCD warriors! It gets better!

Every time a new theme comes in, it feels like it is the most terrifying, serious, important thing ever.......but it happens for every theme. Every OCD theme is unique but the OCD cycle in your head is always the same: OCD thought -> fear/guilt/shame/urgency -> compulsive thought/behaviour -> temporarily feeling better -> OCD thought. That's the OCD cycle that continues forever until you stop engaging.

For addiction I had watch dr anna lembke podcast where she was describing complete abstinence from the addictive behaviour or drug as it will help us to rewire our reward pathways but when it's OCD we are asked to do ERP .
These two concepts are overlapping and bit confusing I wish if you could educate us about these two topics .

I’m worrying that I don’t have OCD but I did not do official recovery work, I don’t know if I did without noticing or making it official. It’s just that back then I feel like it was more clear that I had OCD, but now that I’m less anxious (at least I think I’m less anxious) and feel less urgent to figure things out (of my main/strongest theme I guess) I’ve been doubting if I even have OCD.. I am not diagnosed, I know it is probably best to go to a therapist but I don’t think I can do that because of some reasons. I want to recover from OCD but me questioning if I even have it makes me think if I should or shouldn’t do recovery.. or am I using OCD as an excuse to stop researching this topic I’m worried about or something, I don’t know man, someone help or give me your thoughts, sir Nathan or anyone, I am 16 years old btw it started when I was 15.
