Also.. The vocals on emperor are passable while the vocals on mayhem are legendary. Mayhem also have a consistently darker atmosphere.
It's really a hard choice. Both bands are so important, even though they're musical complexities are on opposite sides of the spectrum.

It's funny how you mention how the copycast diminished your enjoyment of Suffocation, but it's nothing compared to the hundreds, if not thousands, of bands that copied Incantation in recent years. If anything that totally killed Incantation for me and I doubt I will ever listen to them again. Great show!
The Incantation worship came a bit later. When Suffo was popular, they and Cannibal Corpse unleashed an army of copy cat bands. Especially in the mid 90's. Every demo I received sounded like that. Thanks for watching!
Is Marty confusing Clandestine & Left Hand Path? He called LHP a "mess" in the comparison to Like an Everflowing Stream.... Clandestine is the one that is all over the place & just not very good
Rob I probably misspoke. Because Clandestine IS a mess. I love Left Hand Path. I love Like an Everflowing Stream, but I probably picked it over LHP. I don't remember. Probably had a few too many. Either way... Thanks for watching!
@@HeavyMetallurgy just wanted to clarify because I doubt anybody likes Clandestine at all & definitely not over LHP. The songs are jumbled unfinished ideas, good riffs are abandoned immediately for some other ridiculous riff. It's just bad. I haven't listened to it in forever & probably never will again.

He did. I want to say he chose Leprosy, but I can't recall.
Just as Alan is turned off by the Emperor over-hype, the way everyone sucks off Reign in Blood & Master of Puppets irritates me. I like Emperor, but prefer other Black Metal bands. I definitely don't listen to RIB or MOP anymore. The 2 most overrated recordings in the history of metal.
Unpopular opinion that I actually agree with.T he REIGN worship gets kind of old, although I'm used to it at this point. It's not that those albums are BAD or anything, But I really resent " we all agree" shit in metal. A certain type of Slayer fan is absolutely intolerant of any change or deviation. Slayer and Maiden are two of my favorite bands, consistent but willing to change things up and take chances on releases. And boy o boy have they ever been held to the fire for it!
Those albums still hold up, probably due to the insane level of nostalgia they hold for me. Once you add memories and feelings from an easier/better time, then it complicates the way a person feels about a piece of music. It becomes part of their DNA. Thanks for watching.
The vocals that glen benton does are very pretentious and predictable in my opinion
I think live anymore, he just mush mouths his way through the sets. Going through the motions if you will. I like him on the first 2 though. Thanks for watching!
