Think you would love our medieval recreations all around the country with different traditional pastry and strong liqueurs used back then. One thing that people don't know it's that marmelade was actually one of the very first national portuguese deserts. Went to Lisbon last month and really desliked the tuk tuks overthere just doesnt fit and starbucks well means nothing to us what I usually call quase cevada and even real cevada is better😂Gangster restaurant with Ze povinho on the background was hilarious. Lisbon is amazing you stay classy😉😁😎
Hey guys - great video. Was in Portugal the summer of 2018 and loved it. Spent a week in LIsbon walking (and a few Uber rides). Also avoided lines almost entirely. One morning I was walking by the elevator early, and it was raining, so there was about a 5 minute line - so I gave it a go. But, other than that, just walked and ate (my weight in sardines I think)! Absolutely fell in love with the city.
That bica story is an urban legend. Bica is just a nickname for the coffee machine, that comes from the small (water) faucets we can still find here and there.
Wish I’d seen this before I went to Lisbon last week! The Santa justa lift is still worth seeing if you know the tricks, it depends what your focus is as the above is more food focused but I like history and everyday city life. Get a viagem card, allows metro trips for 24 hours including trams and buses. You can also get on the Santa Justa lift for free. The card and 24 he travel cost 6.90 from metro stations. For the Santa justa lift, don’t wait downstairs, there is a card shop behind and to the right of the lift. Go to the back of the shop and there is a lift that goes up to a bar. Take the stairs up from the bar and you get to the top of the Santa justa lift, and you can then either pay to go down (no queue up there) or use your card to go down for free. If you don’t want to pay for that, you still get a good view of the city from beside the lift or you can pay like 3.50 to go the top (platform above the lift) to get an amazing view of the city, we did this at sunset and got an amazing view of the riverside and Lisbon at sunset. The tram is worth getting up to castle st Jorge as it is really steep and a lot of walking to get to. Walk down though to get a good view of Alfama. Also when I was at the castle I saw one of the apartments that they had been flat hunting! (The one with the pool!) Food wise, pasteis de nata you have to try as well as pasteis de balcalhau. The Ginja is also quite nice.
Hey! A big tip to take the elevator of Santa justa is to go in at the top in Carmo and descend rather than ascend. There are always a lot more people waiting to go up rather than to go down!
This seems to be a very charming place, I hope I can visit sometime in the future when all this is over. Seeing and sharing places like this is why I love traveling and make videos so much! And please keep up the great job! Subscribed!!
Hey guys. Just one tip..if you like beautiful Palaces with almost zero tourists, go and visit "Palácio de Queluz", it´s 15m from Lisbon. Stay cool and stay Classy ;)
Parque Eduardo VII has really good views of Lisbon and you have to go visit Estufa Fria in it, an amazing greenhouse(?) full of plants, it’s like being in a jungle.
We just arrived home yesterday from 12 wonderful days in Lisbon. We purchased day passes for metro and found that was the easiest way to get around the city. We found so many local eateries off the beaten path at such lower prices and found so many look out points. I’m so sad to be home. We did go to El Corte Ingles and my husband was saying, Amelia, are you done yet, lol.
I agree. Research is #1. It would suck to go back home and realize you missed a ‘must see’ AND another big thing to research is the history and culture. When ever I travel I want to ‘live like a local’ then I can wander around and ‘see what I see’ and still hit the big spots I might be interested in. Do both! One of the "must sees" if you come to lisbon is visiting Sintra ,Palácio da Pena and Palácio de Sintra! Of course you don´t need to go inside, you just have to buy some coffees and pastéis de nata on Piriquita and enjoy the view!
Thank You guys for loving my country and City. You are the Best... ❤️🙏👍 Obrigado a vocês por gostarem do meu país e cidade. Vocês são os maiores... ❤️🙏👍
My father is from Madeira and we just visited Porto, Obidos and Lisbon. Our friends wanted to see the "Harry Potter" Library in Porto and the Time Out Market in Lisbon. Both were super crowded and waiting in line was a colossal waste of time!! Other than that, people are friendly, Portugal is beautiful, and Uber is a great way to get around! After several days of drinking Cappuccino, we just had to have Starbucks. Ooooh, it was so good! (MrsRugby)
Brutal, you 2 Rock. U should found one enterprise that teaches portuguese people to enjoy their resources and so get a huge growth of the economy . I am Portuguese myself and i am amazed how U get it so well. Keep it going
I love your videos . What a charming couple you are. We will be coming to Portugal in February and travelling from Lisbon to Algarve. Looking forward to visiting and enjoying the delicious food and sites.
If you want to avoid the same big shops you can help a portuguese business, The Feeting Room is a concept store that started as a collective of portuguese shoemakers, started with portuguese shoes but they also have portuguese fashion designers, jewellery designers and portuguese bags. All in real leather and amazing quality, with classic and contemporary designs. Even some international brands for clothing that produce in portuguese factories, which give all of their employers good working conditions and salaries. Avoid buying Made in China :) It's located in Chiado and also has a coffee shop inside! (where the coffee is also specialty and roasted in house!) It's not my business but I am an employer and I think it's a really nice portuguese project that is far away from those generic cork bags or fake souvenir shops. If you're into high quality contemporary shoes, clothing and accessories designed and made in portugal this is the place to visit! :)
Question: As far as the touristy things to do which things are WORTH going to see and besides the castle and elevator which things should I also skip? Here is my list of things I would like to do but totally up for change because I don't like standing in lines and I really hate overly touristy stuff. day 1: LX factory, walking in Alfama and getting lost, Speakeasy cocktail lounge at Cinco Lounge in the evening. day 2: Mosteiro dos Jeronimo’s, Nucleo arqueologico da rue dos correeiros, National Museum of Ancient Art. day 3: Convento do Carmo, Igreja de São Roque,Monteiro De Sao Vicente De and lastly Calouste Gulbenkian Museum. What things have lines and I should avoid at all costs? what out of my list is not worth it? I'll also be getting the Lisboa card to save money and if we need to ride the trains. If you could help with narrowing these things down that would help me a lot. I would rather get lost in these neighborhoods so I would like to know what I CAN NOT miss. :)
Oh God I miss my country I'm from Vila Nova de Gaia maybe someday I hope next year is been 19 years since I don't go to Portugal the place where I was born and grew up and miss my whole family God will send me there I hope next year thank you for all of the videos you you guys share with all the world 😁🌞🌞
Hi Guys! I really enjoy your videos- they make me proud to be portuguese (from Porto!) Which drone do you use? It makes so nice films (loved the films on Madeira...) Congrats on your videos!
If you have to have a burger in Portugal, try H3 New Hamburgology. It's local "fast food" chain, very tasty burgers with lots of cheese, sangria drinks and real potato slices. And the price is the same as in macburger joints.
Be careful, H3 doesn't filter the frying oil. They use the same oil without cleaning it during 3 days. McDonalds, Honorato, Talho Burger and Talho do Mercado are safer. You just need to look to the fryer's quality: McDonalds, Honorato, Talho Burger and Talho do Mercado have Top quality fryers with built in filtration systems.
Our plan is to eventually move to Portugal but until then we plan on visiting once a year starting this November 2022. Btw, I’ve already reached out to PortoBay with your promo code “Stay Classy”. Let’s see what they come back with as we are staying in Lisbon as well as Porto. And since I’ve been watching you guys along with other Portugal -based TH-camrs for the past 2 years, I’d like to think I’m in the Wise tourist category 🙂
The Vintage market is not Santa clara market. Is Feira da Ladra. And it is closed at sundays its tuesdays and saturdays until 13h00. To find godd stuff you should go early
Rule number one, always. I've been in Sevilha a few days and I don't visit the Alcazar and the cathedral, because the lines to enter was huge. So i saw more beautiful things in the city that I recomend and Cadiz the same no cathedral visit
Please go to Macdonald, Starbucks, Pizza Hut and every other fast food restaurant. Leave the good food for those who appreciate it. Also, I hate having to book a table (not a Portuguese tradition). But is totally unrelated 😁😁.
@@joenandamalie It's true. Just being a little bit sarcastic. I'll never understand why people travel abroad if they don't want to explore the local culture.

Hamburgers have become “ cool” in Portugal in the last few years when a few chain stores opened up, selling ok but overpriced burgers. Portuguese have a bifana or prego instead for a fraction of the price.
Thing is if you just pit stop for a few days you don't really get to trawl the suburbs for culture or furniture shop for that matter haha. You need a month or more even then I doubt you'd barely scratch the surface.
Thank you. You are such a great couple. I really enjoy watching you on youtube. On my every visit to Lisbon I get a hint from your videos and this video is one of that! Byeeee😇
Hey could you do a video about your taste in portuguese music? I´m from Lisbon and i think that portuguese language has produced some incredible music with such various different styles, from the brasilian Bossa Nova to the portuguese Fado. I know it´s not really what you do but for a change you could do a reaction video of some portuguese/brazilian musicians like Antonio Variações; Tom Jobim; Zeca Afonso; Seu Jorge etc. Also in june of 2020 there will be in Lisbon "Rock In Rio Lisboa" wich is one of the biggest festivals in the world, you shouls check it out. That´s all cheers to you guys ! :)
It's bigger. The view is amazing. The rooftop is amazing. The built quality however is a different story! We had the best of the best in Saldanha and now it's the cheapest solutions from IKEA, which takes a bit of getting used to. But we are happy here and we haven't even gotten our furniture yet!
Check the colors here at 4:45 and at 5:037:33 was I right or was I right? Your next food videos are going to have some nice colors which is all the point, if we can't taste it we can at least feast with our eyes.
Helle and I just arrived in Lisbon and so far we find it expensive, loud, and full of hipster tourists. Many Portuguese have been very warm and nice, but also we notice there is a Tale of Two Cities income inequality between a very large international crowd who drive e-Scouters around, queue up for expensive restaurants each evening, and live in a 1st World Bubble, while the locals who live on less than $900 a month try to hide resentment.
@@joenandamalie When you take a cheap Uber here from Estrella to the Airport and it costs 12 Euros, Uber gets 3 Euros, the company that owns the car gets 6, and the driver gets 4. Five years ago, a coffee and pastry cost 2 euros and today it is 6, which is affordable for rich people from Denmark and USA but not for ordinary people from Lisbon. Wages here are extremely low by European standards and all of us benefit from that by enjoying a high quality of life at low cost, but as prices continue to rise so will inequality and social tension.
@@joenandamalie I assumed you were selling it, so yes. Just make sure its competitively priced with similar guides. I appreciate your insight, especially on restaurants, so looking forward to it. Thank you

Thing is if you just pit stop for a few days you don't really get to trawl the suburbs for culture or furniture shop for that matter haha. You need a month or more even then I doubt you'd barely scratch the surface.
How much money should we take?
Hi stay classy, can you write down the ganster restaurant’s name? I should go and check! You made me curious😊
Pabe
Thank you. You are such a great couple. I really enjoy watching you on youtube. On my every visit to Lisbon I get a hint from your videos and this video is one of that! Byeeee😇
thank you so much for this amazing video. could someone please spell out the gangster restaurant's name? pave papve?!
Cheers! It's called PABE.
Best fucking guide ever 🔥🔥
A few bottles of wine were consumed in the making of this video 😂🤘
Hey guys, could you let me know the name of the food market and Brazilian restaurant you suggest. Can’t catch the name from the video.
Cheers
A nossa casa
I didnt get the two fancy one
Which rooftop bars do you recommend
We are releasing a Lisbon Guide soon with restaurants and rooftops and much more. :)
How is your new apartment compared to the old one? :)
It's bigger. The view is amazing. The rooftop is amazing. The built quality however is a different story! We had the best of the best in Saldanha and now it's the cheapest solutions from IKEA, which takes a bit of getting used to. But we are happy here and we haven't even gotten our furniture yet!
@@joenandamalie enjoy the cheap finishes. That's the most autentic Portuguese experience you can get :') hahaha
Are you basically camping at the new apartment then? 😉
@@Luismvm90 😂😂😂😂
Check the colors here at 4:45 and at 5:03 7:33 was I right or was I right? Your next food videos are going to have some nice colors which is all the point, if we can't taste it we can at least feast with our eyes.
Thanks again....by the way, you said 😜 are Lego! You must be Danish...heh. But hey, thanks guys for the great video again....Ate Lego
Steven Adler thats strange you had that experience.. not something we can recognize at all!
What's the time frame on the guide? I'll be there July 2020
Within 2-3 months.. we are going to charge for it.. would you pay for it?
@@joenandamalie I assumed you were selling it, so yes. Just make sure its competitively priced with similar guides. I appreciate your insight, especially on restaurants, so looking forward to it. Thank you
@@joenandamalie also, if you could break down different neighborhoods that would be awesome.
The guide will include everything about Lisbon! Neighborhoods as well! Let us know other things you would like to have in a guide. Maybe you can give us some ideas! In terms of pricing we are thinking about 12.99$ - how does that sound to you? The guide will be everything from general pro tips, how to get around, best restaurants, day trips, coffee and brunch, insta hotspots, where to sleep, things do to/see, Portuguese dishes, rooftops, nightlife, weather in all months, and much more.
@@joenandamalie sounds like you've got it pretty well covered. I'll be looking forward to it
I missed the name of the Market you recommended rather than Timeout. Any chance you would share in a message? Obrigato
And it's... obrigado 😉
@@sidonio72 Sinto Muito!!! e obrigado!

you guys are going to have a terrible surprise when arriving in Bali, I told the authorities there, not to allow in
Thanks a lot, tuktuk is the biggest lie ever
Yup!
@@joenandamalie hopefully in some point they become electric
Also, the wise tourist does not stand in line for hours to get a pastel de Belém :)
@@marioandre7351 Yes, but there is a line for takeout. Most tourists do not wait for a table, they just wait for takeout.
I PROBABLY HAVE TO CHANGE MY ATTITUDE. BEFORE TRAVELING I ALWAYS LOOK FOR WHERE MACDONALDS, STARTBUCKS AND A GAY BAR ARE! FOR CHRISTMAS I WILL GO TO PORTO. I WILL FOLLOW YOUR ADVICE TO SEE WHAT HAPPENS :)
yes ! don't eat hamburger , don't know why people go to Portugal not eating Portuguese food , instead of , they eat pasta and pizza .
Dude, you call Saldanha further out? 🤔
We generally think you two are great, but PLEASE don’t push the horrible scooters, even if you do get a commission.
Please do another VLOG running around Portugal.
Those videos ROCK!
We don’t get a commission from Lime. We get a free ride when you sign up via our code. No money for us!
I drink bica, without sugar!!!!!!!!! More flavour
