Absolutely! To me that's THE sound of an acoustic steel string guitar. I know they played other guitars as well, but when I hear Neil Young or Bob Dylan, the Martin sound is what I hear and it's the sound I want to have. One day....
I bought a D35 20 years ago and you are absolutely right about the sound getting better with time! What a lineup of great pieces you have there!! Cheers!
I have a D-18MD but it did have a problem with the titanium truss rod and had to be replaced under warranty during the lockdown so I never found out what was wrong with it. Maybe they would have fixed it during normal times rather than replaced but good customer service either way.
Oh how I wish I could play like Ben! Unfortunately I‘m not tenacious enough to put in the time and effort to practice nearly enough for that, and have too many other hobbies… 😪 I guess what I’m trying to say is: his playing was-once more!-really amazing. Loved it.
The binding on the D-18 MD is rosewood, not “black’. The MD series is the first production series to use wood binding. The glue is animal (protein) glue. Adirondack bracing, waverly tuners. VTS Sitka tops, high grade back and sides. Extremely light, partly because of the titanium truss rod. Very well balanced sound and beautifully made. Expensive, yes, but in line with any guitar of this quality.
The scale length is not the only difference between a 000 and an OM. The main difference is that 000s use 5/16” bracing; OMs use 1/4”. Seems like people get stuck on the scale length and don’t bother thinking about the rest of the specs.
These have carbon fiber bridge plates which was left out. That’s one of the bigger changes Martin made that drew some criticism here in the states. I was able to get my hands on some early production models when I worked for a dealer. These are fantastic guitars if you aren’t stuck in the past.
@@rosslynemrys5829 I like the idea myself... Doing repairs on old wooden bridges is what gets a lot of vintage guitars down from priceless to affordable.
I bought one of those om28s afyer comparing it to a few martins in the shop. It blew away an om42 and seemed to have more volume than an hd28. One thing that struck me was how you could keep digging in and it would just get louder and louder with that great classic martin tone. It is super articulate too, which is great for expressive fingerstyle type stuff. The neck shape was odd at first but now I love it. Couldn't recommend the OM28 MD enough!
I bought an acoustic with a cedar top 15 years ago, and I'm in love with the softer, more mellow response of the cedar top and since then spruce has sounded harsh to my ears. What will it take for me to love Spruce again?
Digging in with the pick with some hard strumming etc will have you preferring the spruce I'd think but if you don't play like that there's no real reason to go back to the spruce.
Actually the OM has 1/4” bracing. The rest have 5/16”. Glad someone cares besides me tho! Every time someone says the main different is the scale length I want to cry.
How did you find the initial action on the four guitars ? Always found Martins to be quite high and needed setups for good playability. Would appreciate your findings. Thanks.
For equal money Martin beats Taylor IMHO. If you like a bright sounding acoustics go with the latter. If you appreciate the low end as well as high only something from Martin will do.
Awesome video!! Could you guys please review the 2021 Martin X Series GPC-X2E Ive recently purchased one and LOOOVE how it sounds! Interested to know what your reaction would be! Cheers!
I'd kill for each one of them (as a matter of speech off course). I still haven't figured out which one I love the most, the D-28 or the OM-28. I prefer the shape and the playability and the sweetness of the OM-28, but the D-28 has that classic Martin sound (they all have that actually, but the D-28 seems to have that even more). It's the model you just need to have. O fuck it, I can't choose! 😕
Ok... Martins are great, but Ben makes it better. He is like a flipping kid in a candy store and It's nice to watch him have fun. Both Pete and Ben suck cause they remind me how much more work I need to put into playing, Thanks Guys
totally agree with you,i like martin i own a DX-12 i wish i could afford the American version but this pandemic makes them out of reach, ill stick to the X series way more affordable and built like a tank
@@michaelmetal71 Yeah. I just felt like I was being told to "enjoy some cake" while I watched it, which makes me sad. I love these guys and I know they didn't mean it that way. But that feeling is sticking with me. :(
There is a bigger difference in the sound of a high-end acoustic and a cheap one than there is between electric guitars with a similar price disparity. You hear where the money goes with acoustics.
Here's a tip, if you separate the acoustic and bass videos and give them their own channel you could increase traffic and possibly grow your audience while not irritating real guitarists! 😉
If seeing Ben and Pete jamming together doesn't make you smile then there's something deeply wrong with you.
Agreed! Would love to see more of them. Great combo.

@@larrydj549 well put.

Ben is so, so great at this and such a perfect fit for the channel.

Thanks for listening to your subs. It's awesome to hear them with just a mic and all sounding great.🎶✌

The VTS top is supposed to speed up or skip that 4 decade wait. I guess we won’t know if it worked for 40 years.
That OM28 is amazing! Loved what you played on it!
OM28E “All Day Long” 😍👍👌👏👏
I am not a big acoustic guy, and even less for expensive stuff. But, I will always watch and like for the personalities and the playing.
I got one of these (om28 Modern Deluxe) and put an lr baggs anthem pickup in. Love it! I take it with me around the world wherever I go

I have a titanium truss rod in my wrist from being fractured in multiple places. That cost thousands but it's better than the one made in the 50's!

Fantastic playing and review! 👍
I love seeing Danish Pete play acoustic (he’s amazing!). Now let’s see Ben rock a strat or a Les Paul (you know he can!). That would be awesome!

Will you be demoing the new Epiphone "Inspired by Gibson" ES-335s?
Ben is litterally made of fire !!

Just...wow! I could listen to yall all day.
That outro jam was awesome! :-)
Amazing stuff
Thanks for tuning in!
Pete preferred the standard D18 over the modern deluxe in the video July 22, 2019. Lower price for a standard D18, and sounds great !
ha, look at Ben painting his fingers silver like we dont know theyre gold!

I think they have a carbon fiber bridge plate?
What strings were these fitted with? Particularly the D-28?
Are any (or all) of these available in sunburst?

Proper solid spruce top guitar, not laminate.

what was that song at 8.48, it sounds so familiar ?
Thank you so much for actually letting us actually hear these, and not having them plugged in.
I’m such a noob in acoustics these all look the same to me! Now I know what my spouse feels like when looking at my electrics...
So, the rosewood is from the east coast of India?
Great video . The OM 28 sings out .
Here for the jams........
Ben. Hats off..

Nice guitars but Price... arm and a leg. You can get similar or better quality guitars for 1/4 the prices. Look at Yamaha, Recording Kings, etc.
Would that I had the kind of lifestyle that might mean I don't consider 6000 or 7000 $Can an egregious amount of money for a guitar - any guitar.
You can probably get one used for a third off the price.
