If your vehicle has been running roughly or has lost power, there may be a lack of pressure in one or more cylinders. To determine if pressure is escaping from the engine, it is necessary to check the compression in the cylinders with a compression gauge, which measures the amount of pressure the piston exerts on the fuel-air mixture before the spark plug fires the mixture. These gauges do not cost much, and are easy to use. Some gauges are screwed into the spark plug opening, and others must be kept in place.
