He isn’t aggressive, he is protective of himself. He has a disability and does not trust anyone. But once he trusts you, look how amazing the bond will be. I personally love helping disabled cat, they are truly wonderful creatures. They are the sweetest and very thankful for the love you’d give ❤️
You and Ivar saved us when my precious boy went blind from cancer! He lived a year after his diagnosis! We followed your advice and never moved anything! We loved him more! For the way he fought! Thank you Ivar!
Other blind cats aren't that aggressive, think the bigger issue was that he was abandoned as a baby, had literally noone, and never learnt how to cat or how to speak
He's like the cat equivalent of a human child raised by wolves almost. He's not feral but his lack of socialisation plus trauma plus blindness will give huge trust issues
Yep, my Rose was abandoned as a kitten and we have the strongest bond, still she bites and scratches me like no other cats in the house. When she was little she was basically feral, but after LOTS OF PATIENCE she grew into a mostly well mannered cat. She still bites me, but we kind of found an equilibrium.
Yes, you have to put yourself in the place of these animals. They are intelligent and have normal emotions, so childhood traumas leave scars. If someone left you on the road when you were 3 years old, you wouldn't trust anyone either.

My family had a blind cat, though she didn't have either of her eyes. And it's crazy, you really couldn't tell that she was blind at all. It's amazing how good a cat's other senses are.
Their ears are shaped so the sound travels further and they have amazing smell. Also their whiskers are very sensitive and sense direction as well.

Remove the perfect part. It's a good thing to stop a child from having a low self esteem by not saying "When I was your age" or comparing them to other kids. But its also not good to give the ego boost by saying they're perfect. But I get what you're saying.

I adopted a "discount" kitty from a local humane society. He was adopted and returned 4 times by other families before I found him and fell in love. He was so discounted that they called him a "name your price" cat, they anticipated that he would be brought back again. Because he bit. He still bites but he's also the biggest love bug. It took a lot to earn his trust.
There are cats where I work. One of them became friendly real quickly after I fed her. She was fixed and clearly someone had contact with her before. An older male tabby took up living in the same spot but didn't want anything to do with humans. Until he saw me petting the other cat. I started petting him as well but he didn't understand it at first and bit me after a few seconds so I would stop petting him at that time. We would do this over a few weeks until he slowly lost the aggression and fear. His fur is easily matted so sometimes it's him telling me it's a sore spot. He will nip at me occasionally still but it's not him being mean. I would take them home but I already have too many cats but at least he gets fed.
I have a female 3yr old cat that sounds just like yours. She has a hairline boundary between cuddle time and WAR! I thought I was good at reading cats before I got her but now I notice micro signals in her behaviour to keep my hands safe! :D
but once I figured her out it is really not a problem, I just have to respect her boundaries and make sure I am aware enough to spot the cues! :D
if you are petting your cat and they "suddenly start biting" you, PLAY WITH YOUR CAT! petting = stimulation.

All cats do what I call “love bites” I’m guessing a lot of people don’t know about it or research enough.
Sometimes it’s playful and sometimes it’s “right I’ve had enough pets now”
You can tell the difference between how much pressure they put into the bite but the body language is a dead give away. Tail wags more rapid, ears start going back….

Ivar has to feel safe, he's just reacting exactly as you'd expect from a blind cat born with excellent protective equipment built in - teeth & scimitar claws.

We adopted a blind cat when she was 6 years old, and she was the SWEETEST cat ever. She was honestly the most unique and loving cat I've ever met. She unfortunately got very sick when she was 18 and deteriorated so quickly that we had to have her euthanized, but my goodness, we'll never forget her 💕

I was thinking about that too. He doesn't know when he is about to be touched. He has to be on guard all the time. I would be on edge too if people were touching my face and i didn't see it coming. I wonder if it would help to make noise with their hand as they move it closer to him. What a great lady.
@@jonb351 I rarely ever touch our cat without her knowing (i usually say a thing or two like call her name, or tell her she's cute), and she will react by aknowledging me coming in for a pet, give me a meow and accept by pushing the body part against me. She is very loving so she usually accepts, but on off days, she shows that she's not into it by her body language, and i react with fully accepting that too.
Same with if i carry her and give her kisses, if she wants down i put her down in a matter of seconds. She knows she's in control with me, so she is more loving, accepting and patient back.
This means that if i ever accidently surprise her, i can tell she gets a little startled, but she knows i will stop if she shows me (non-violently), so she's very loving and accepting even then.
This comes from a cat that has been very shy and distant, with a suspicious personality. Maybe age has helped, but has come so far. She can rub up against guests she never met before.

I must add i do use cat body language towards her too (nodding my head asking how she's doing, blinking slowly to show affection and non-aggression, not stare in to her eyes without any expression etc).
I am the only one to do it. She is loving towards other family members too, but i get the feeling it makes her feel just a little extra safe and understood with me, even when i haven't seen her in a long while (she lives with my parents now and i've moved out).
She can be a little bit shy against me at first, but i do the blinking and she knows we still have the same type of connection :)
People are too caught up with everything being perfect that they don’t give anything that isn’t perfect a chance. I’m glad that there some people out there willing to give these animals a chance.
At the same time, it's important that people know what they can handle. I mean, you couldn't really take a cat like time into a home with small children.

I thought mine was getting arthritic, she was walking so odd, turns out she was going blind fast, and she bites me. Ha, ha, I'm no hero, I'm more like a coward, she was a street cat and has been in charge of me and the dog since she moved in, 10 years ago. Haven't seen the video yet, just your comment, I'm sure she's a wonderful owner!

Not to mention that if you can't see you need another way to locate and identify things. They can't use guide dogs or the sticks that we use so they have to resort to whiskers, grabbing, scent and hearing. The biting and grabbing is less likely aggressive and more trying to figure out what something is. It is possible though. You wouldn't know what sort of things are a threat as well if you were blind, compared to if you can see. It's sad people misinterpret these sorts of things and don't think about it. They both seem like great people. Wish I knew them personally.
If you have a pet, you get used to the bites 😂 the first time it hurts badly, the second time… still hurts. Third time you get used to it 😂
I had a blind cat for 20 years now. She lost her eyesight before she was one year old.
The vet had to completely remove both eyes since they were too damaged. So no eyedrops, at least. Good thing about her was, she's the least aggressive cat I've ever seen. She never willingly hurt me and barely ever hissed at me in those 20 years. The biggest challenge was that she desperately wanted to go outside, so we needed to put her on a leash and secure the fences so she couldn't get lost, but she regularly got tangled up or escaped anyway and you constantly had to look after her. She climbed on absolutely everything.
Nowadays, she's very old, so on the rare occassions she wants to go outside, she won't go far, so no more leash is needed. She needs more attention now, especially since her hearing got bad, but she's still in a good shape considering her age. We were really nervous about taking her, back in the day, but I don't want to live in a universe where we didn't do it.
I also had two male cats that were taken way too early from their mothers. The first one was extremely aggressive and brutal, the second one was scared of everything. Both of them died at 12-13 years. They made their own lives a lot more stressful than it needed to be, and they were much more of a struggle.
It's the lack of socialisation and messed-up behavior that is the real challenge. It makes everything harder. Our blind cat certainly demanded a lot of patience and inventiveness on our part, but since she was so accepting and appreciative, we were able to face that challenge together. That made it quite manageable.

People like you and the woman in this video are genuinely what I would call "angels living amongst us." Just like the woman in the video said, people ALWAYS want the "perfect" pet, while most domestic animals with ANY degree of a deformity, handicap, or disability are overlooked by a shockingly huge majority of people. That's amazing that your blind cat was actually far more gentle and social than the ones who can actually see...I swear in the majority of GeoPets and Dodo videos I have seen of blind cats, they almost seem to generally have this hyper-aggressive-reaction to them. It's sad most people see that aggressiveness and immediately deem the cat as "mean" and even irrational, where I view it with empathy and pity, because those cats feel SO vulnerable and exposed, that they have to lash out at WHATEVER motion, wind, and/or sound they feel or notice as a defensive mechanism, because have no sight to view and analyze the threat potential of whatever it is they notice.
And off-topic from our blind feline friends but still on topic with the other part of your comment, we found 2 LITTLE 4 week old kittens in our garage in July...there was an adult Calico that would hang out in the garage to an unnatural degree...it's a very shitty, dilapidated, leaking garage full of old, useless junk and creepy bugs with no insulation or real use, with a small spot cleared out for an old chair my dad sits on while he smokes his ciggy's out there. Anyways this Calico was clearly an adult, life-long stray (my neighborhood has been OVER RUN by strays for years upon years now), who had never let my dad pet it, yet was unusually calm and not frightened, defensive/aggressive when my dad was in there with the door shut...it just ran under some junk to hide anytime it appeared that my dad was walking towards it, but again, never hissed, nor showed any sign of aggression or defensiveness. Anyways that lasted for about a month, then one day we noticed at least half the strays just vanished...and the very NEXT day, from my dad's first smoke of this fateful July 14th to the end of the day, he heard kittens mewing. He didn't pay much attention during the day...the strays had some kittens about 2 months prior and would generally hang out across the street from our house, and he assumed it was those kittens till in the evening when he went out, and a kitten ACTUALLY made her way through the junk and approached him with VERY purposeful mews as if she was ACTUALLY looking for help (presumably its mother), and we KNEW it had to be young enough to not yet fear humans...and he saw another, smaller one that looked VERY visibly weak and lethargic that would peak out, but seemed to just stay in one place as long as his sister was within his line of sight - but once she approached our dad and she left his line of sight, he would just mew repetitively until she ran back to him, like she knew he was calling for her. Anyways because we put 2 and 2 together (the fact that half the strays were missing, the fact that they were mewing ALL day anytime they heard our dad AND actually approached him, and then me once he told me about them and I RAN outside with an unnatural excitement) and we realized some neighbor more than likely got fed up with the strays (reasonable considering all of them were anti-social and had no concept of yards, porches, and boundaries) and called animal control, and somehow their mom must have been picked up, because my dad finally realized that he hadn't seen that Calico in the garage for about 2 days, which was unusual. To make a VERY long story - yes, I could still go on and on and on - we took them in, had to syringe feed them kitty formula for a couple more weeks and now in January, they're thriving...neutered and spayed, and basically own our house. But the point of ALL this was to point out that this one thing they have always done AND continue to do when we pet or cuddle with them seemed unusual at first, but is apparently far more common in cats separated from mom too early, they would either suckle on our clothes, our couch if they were on it, blanket, or towel, in addition to kneading like normal. I mean luckily they're VERY well adapted otherwise and have no other issues with their personality or behavior!! Anyways I'm SOOO SORRY for excessively rambling on like a tweaker in my comment...cats have ALWAYS been my personally favorite pets and just pull at my emotions and I will always get awe-struck ANYTIME I start talking about them.

TOO LONG;DIDN'T READ THE REST: My dad found - but we BOTH adopted (well, because I still live with him) - 2 little 4-week old, underweight kittens in our garage after their mother was unfortunately picked up with many of the other strays, which means they were also separated from their mom prematurely. While they don't show any negative personality traits or behavioral problems as a result, they DO still instinctively have to suckle on ANYTHING soft when they're comfortable enough to start kneading. Why I cant just word things that way from the beginning is beyond me, even at 29 years old!!! Lordy Lordy Lordy

And also the fact that when a cat is blind it doesn't affect them a lot, they mostly use smell to know where they are or if other living things are there, and it's not even deaf, so they can hear the things that surround them, much better than humans, so it's not even that bad of a problem if a cat is blind, they can live with this condition without it affecting their life too much, so I can't even understand the people who don't want to adopt a cat just because it's blind
@@plague_doctor0237 Also cats have a type of echo location. They send out a low frequency wave and their whiskers pick it up. They don't have as great of night vision as people think. Their sight relies on movement. It's the echo location that allows them to know what's around.
At least that's what I read once. It could be bullshit.

My wife had a blind cat before we met. People feared him but he and I hit it off almost immediately. He lived a long, happy life, and like you, everything had a place, and nothing could be moved. We miss him and would think twice about adopting another.

i used to have two blind cats
when they were born, they got this gunk in their eyes which eventually lead to half of the batch being mostly blind.
the good ones were given away (we already had a lot of cats), and i was left with the blind ones
i dont remember exactly what happened, but one night i slept with them and they wouldnt stay away from me since. they trusted and loved me even more than the person actually feeding them (i did feed them from time to time, but that was usually handled by somebody else)
2 weeks ago i moved away and left them behind at home
they're doing great, and they can still recognise my voice

About a year and a half ago I was diagnosed with a cancer. I also got a thrombosis as a side effect of my treatment. I got very depressed and easily broke in tears. Knowing that I loved cats as a kid my brother suggested that I should adopt one. I asked a neighbor who is volunteer in a refuge if she could get me one. She suggested a kitten that had been badly abused in a previous life. I told her that I would take it for a trial period .To my surprise the kitten was just immense, but I still fell in love with the beast and quickly realized that it was him that was putting me on a. trial. I called him Tocson, and It took a few months before he allowed me to pet him. Now he himself creates situations to get petted. After I got Tocson, I broke in tears for a last time, but it was out of joy.. I also adopted a lady kitten, who I called Mimi, that Tocson quickly adopted as a sister and playmate. I have just learned lately that Tocson had been rejected by a few families who could not accept his bad attitude. He was then put on the street to join the stray cat population, a life he could not adapt to. I just cannot quantify the amount of joy my two felines are procuring me,

"It's all on his terms." Yes, yes, YES! My kitty cat has PTSD and lashes out a lot. But she's also loving and cuddly when she chooses to be. When you meet a cat with respect, they will give you so much back. This lady knows exactly how to respect a kitty.
My old cat must've been a lap cat of an old lady, but then faced something pretty dang bad apparently and was so aggressive that she would attack people that entered the room
(All of this wasn't told to me, just that absolutely no one wants to take her and they are running out of options and she was getting old)

Patience, medicating her thyroid issue, letting us both figure out how to pet and cuddle her safely, without her snapping and attacking (she decided she'll just turn around and look away, so that I can pet her),
lots, and lots, and lots of trial
until she was very calm, rarely ever snapped, just a very sweet cuddly cat that you can't demand anything from, but you're so happy when she comes to you for something

This is how I made friends with an old, beaten-up cat no one else could touch. I just let her come to me and she was my sassy little friend forever after.

I wish more people who adopted were like her. I used to work at a pet shop, but we also had rescue animals up for adoption. People always expect them to behave perfectly to behave exactly the way they did when they were with us, but being in a new environment is scary, especially with technically a stranger. We do our best to socialize and train, but we can only do so much. If given the chance these animals change so much and you can feel they are grateful and it’s such a rewarding feeling
Of course he is aggressive, poor baby can't see the world around him. And like his owner said who knows what he went through before :( he's so lucky to have an owner like her and she is lucky too because she gets the chance to love that adorably derpy face. Bless them both 💙

blind cats aren't always aggressive! i have a blind cat who was raised by some loving folks at a rescue from a week old. She is super sweet and cuddly and has never scratched me on purpose! (She DOES jump on things with her claws out bc she's not sure where she's gonna land and she's sliced me up a few times doing that, but that's different!)

What I meant by my comment was that it's understandable and acceptable that the cat in the video is aggressive because he is afraid of the world from not being able to see it. It's great that your cat feels safe enough to not have to be intentionally aggressive! Hopefully this kitty can also get to that point some day 🙂

What a great rescue! Ivar is adorable and has been a lucky boy, landing on his paws with the exact right family for him! I love also that he's able to be just how he is, on his own terms, and isn't expected to conform to what most people would expect a cat to be like. So what if he's a bit grouchy at times, nips a bit, etc? He had a tough life before and certain traits may have come about due to his former bad situation. Lack of socialization and handling as a kitten can have a lasting effect on a cat and make them a bit stand-offish maybe and not necessarily a lap cat type, etc. but that doesn't mean they can't love and show affection in their own style. The fact that Ivar shadows his mom and likes to sleep alongside her at night, right next to her, shows how bonded he is with her.
My former cat, Lottie, who was also a rescue cat (having been dumped at a shelter by a single mom with two out of control boys with the claim that Lottie scratched one of them!) wasn't overtly 'touchy feely' or a lap cat (she didn't seem to know how to curl up on a lap at all), and it was clear her former living situation with that family where she probably hadn't had a whole lot of affection or understanding probably was the reason for that, but she immediately bonded with me when I went to adopt her, after seeing her on the rescue's website a few months after having to have my previous cat put to sleep. As soon as I left the rescue with Lottie in her cat carrier she seemed to instinctively know she was safe with me and that things would be fine! As soon as I got home with her, put the carrier down in the living room and opened the door she wandered out freely, without me needing to even encourage her (and I thought she'd be a bit cautious at first!) and immediately started checking everything out. She had been at the rescue for 6 months, overlooked because she hid away from everybody and was scared of the other cats there and was very hissy and defensive if they came near her, so she became a changed cat immediately she was home with me! After I gave her some food and water, and a few treats, and made myself dinner and settled down on the sofa she immediately hopped up alongside me and settled right down, as if she'd always been with me. It was so lovely, and she'd even popped in & out of the kitchen as if to tell me to hurry up when I had been preparing my meal! Also, she would hop up on my bed with me at night on top of the duvet to lay right alongside me, as close as she could get, and go to sleep that way. She would often shadow me around the house too, just like Ivar does with his mom, and just wanted to be with me most of the time, not bothering that much about anyone else! I do believe that animals who are rescued are especially loyal & loving in some ways and always seem to really appreciate their improved circumstances, having not had great lives before necessarily. Sadly, Lottie is now gone and I'm currently caring for a 'street' cat, Boo Boo, who was apparently born on the streets so he doesn't know what it's like to live indoors. I feed him outside most of the time but late at night he will come into my kitchen to eat and spend some time, only when nobody else is around and as long as I leave the door open so he can 'escape' if he hears anything that scares him! He is only comfortable at the moment with me and runs away from anyone else. I want to give him a home but want to do it on his terms, not force him to be in because he cries frantically to go out if a door is shut and he feels trapped. So, if anyone has anu tips about how to go about getting him used to being inside when a door is shut, still with freedom to go out though when he wants, then please let me know!
I would highly recommend to anyone who is truly an 'animal person' to consider adopting / fostering animals from shelters & rescues instead of from breeders, and not necessarily just the 'perfect' seeming animals or the very young ones. ALL cats, dogs, etc, need good, loving homes and owners who want them to be part of their families not just because they look perfect / tone with their decor / are very young, etc. It's never been an issue for me to take on an animal that's older, or not the most touchy feely, or that's shy, etc. Most animals will come out of themselves and bloom with the right love and care. Adopt / foster a rescue animal!!
This women is a angel! You cannot convince me otherwise. Truly accepting someone wether animal or human for who they are flaws and all is the most unselfish loving thing you can do. My cat I adopted is like this. He bites and sh*t's in my flower Potts but ya know what I'm no peach to live with. He's my family and family always sticks by each other. I wouldn't trade him for nothing in the world 💖 that is true unconditional love.

My dog (no special needs) was “on sale” just because he was an amstaff German shepherd mix, and has been brought back multiple times. As I had him for awhile, I could see why they brought him back (reckless behavior, tearing things up), but I never did. Now he’s the sweetest thing. All I have left is potty training, though he is four years old.
Only problem imo was the people who didnt bother to train the doggy...

Some ppl don't understand high energy dogs or encourage\enable bad behaviors. Ours had a medical problem and was brought back to the shelter 3 times despite being a husky. He was really untrained but had a gentle approach to other animals which was perfect for us and our cats. A few months of dedicated training, exercise, and he's great! Tbh potty training takes awhile in older dogs. Definitely stick to a ritualistic feeding schedule then take him out to a spot to release a few minutes after a meal (if indoor). This tends to work the fastest.

This is such a good family for him. I love when she said "Everyone wants the perfect pet and these are the animals that go without homes". And when she said "He wants everything on his own terms and that's OK, it's who he is and he's perfect". Everyone thinks that when an animal is aggressive or not always cuddly that makes them a bad animal and it's not true. You just have to give them more space, keep them safe and support them as you would any other animal.
Honestly, the same thing she said about fur babies happens to human children all the time.
I wish people would realize that starting a family/ taking a life under your wings, whether human or not, is about acceptance, unconditional love and respect to whatever special needs they have, not about making sure you have the perfect little addition to your life. When caring for someone who has no choice to depend on you, you have to keep in mind they're living beings with thoughts, feelings and boundaries of their own that must absolutely be respected and taken in consideration. Especially for those who can't voice their special needs. You're the one who chose to raise them, while no one gets the privilege of choosing where they'll grow.

I adopted a 'difficult' cat, aggressive and with some health issues. I don't regret it. There's still the occasional bite or scratch, but he's the best friend anyone could ask for. Extremely sweet and affectionate in his own way. He just needed time (2-3 years to get past the worst behaviour) and to be with people he can trust not to hurt him.
Could I ask what you did to help him get past the worst behavior? A lot of this comes from trauma from previous owners being abusive or even a dangerous life as a stray, where disturbed humans would meddle with them. So I know it takes time, patience, letting them have their space, but is there anything else in particular to do to help?
@@dntskdnttll It was kind of a combination of things. Some of it was just figuring out what he liked and didn't like. My cat has difficulty with prolonged physical contact, so figuring out what level of petting was ok and respecting his boundaries was really important. He also has dietary issues and recurrent cat flu so getting those sorted reduced his stress a lot. We made his physical environment as comfortable as possible. High places that he can access, a number of pet beds throughout the house that he can use depending on his mood (some high, some low), a place that he can retreat to when he needs quiet. My cat loves cardboard so we have cardboard scratch blocks in a number of rooms. I'm very consistent in my behaviour and language with him. He has rules and I expect him to follow them (no getting on the table, kitchen benches, no sleeping on the human beds etc.). When he does something he's not supposed to I always correct him and say no (no physical punishment, I tend to just remove him from the situation) and equally, when he does something good, he gets rewarded with 'good boy' and a head scratch. Because he knows what's expected of him and what the boundaries are, he can be comfortable. I talk to him a lot, spend a lot of time with him. Because we have a yard I'm able to take him outside everyday for some supervised exercise. That helps a lot with his mood. But really, time and consistency are big healers. Because my cat feels safe, because he always knows what to expect from us, he is able to trust us. Once the trust comes, then things get easier.

I did the same - we adopted a cat in a 'cat cafe' because he was biting everyone and we figured nobody else would take him. He's a real sweet guy now, and doesn't bite me anymore

I am so impressed with Ivar. He sees us from the heart. I adopted a deaf cat, he is way more obedient than other cats! He can understand sign language.
Had a cat like that, and initially he was very guarded. Now that the other cat is gone he has become the most relaxed cat in the world. Hard to believe.

There’s something special to me about animals where you have to earn their trust. It feels so rewarding to have the shy or “aggressive” animal open up to you because you understood their needs. Ivar is just such a creature.

I went to a shelter that had one cat that hated EVERYONE, other cats, the staff, visitors and I was literally the only one that got that cat to smell me and let me pet her whole body even after she was annoyed by a staff member for trying to socialise her through petting. She loved me and it shocked everyone, the staff and volunteers along with visitors were shocked meanwhile me..I was happy to have a cat that enjoyed my little company and let me pet her. 😂 The whole shelter called me the “cat whisperer” and as soon as I walked in the staff and volunteers would say “she’s (me) here and she’s going to be working her magic” there is literally no magic, I exist and the cats love me 😂 I always put it as ‘I have a cat at home and they probably smell her’ lol

Being blind living on the streets I think becoming aggressive is a reasonable and necessary adaptation. I'm glad someone had the empathy to be patient with him. Also for some reason I just expect anything named Ivar to be smart. Idk why

WE have a blind cat, he wasnt when he was younger and about a year or so ago he started to go out and get lost as he didnt know where he was. Bless him, he's a house cat now as we lost him to many times. He has the whole of the back garden and three stories to play in. He is such a little angel.

A bunch of people werent sure they would be able to take care of a blind cat. It isnt a bad thing that people generally pass on these types of animals, they just dont know if they can provide a good life to the animal.
yeah, the only people who need demonizing here are the people who might have dumped him (if that was even the case) out in the wild. responsible pet ownership includes recognising the limits to which you're able to provide care.
i have a blind cat and she is not difficult to take care of at all!! bumps into walls occasionally and gets down from things verrrry slowly, but she honestly requires no extra care. wish more people would take a chance on a blind cat.
Anytime you go take responsibility for animal it comes with the risk of having to provide special care due to genetics, aging or accidents.
Yes, there’s a difference between accepting that from day one and providing care to an animal you’ve grown to love after an accident or as they age. But some owners aren’t even up to this. Fair weather owners who enjoy their pets when things are good and then abandon them when it requires more effort.
Every pet owner should consider the fact that one day they might have to provide special care that will require more time or money than they anticipated.

True - which shows a healthy awareness for the amount of responsiblities to be taken on in case a person decides to adopt such an extraordinary cat. It is a very good thing when people are honest with themselves and don't take the cat out of pity just to dump him afterwards.

My 21 year old cat has just gone blind. It's amazing how quickly she's adapted. It's just a bit sad when she bumps in to things. Bless her. I've made her lil steps so she can get on things so she still seems happy.
Our furball slowly went blind around that age too. He was able to orient in our small flat even then, bc everything stays it the same place in our home most of the time. At least furniture-wise. Dammit, I miss him.
My 11 year old guy has just recently started to go blind. I feel awful but am comforted to know that they can still manage alright without sight. I think the blindness is nearly complete and he’s slowly learning to navigate the place without sight.

@@lexb1075 He definitely was ancient. My parents took him in as a stray 7 years before I was born. He pretty much accepted me as his kitten.
People get so deterred with this but once a blind animal learns their surroundings, you would never know they're blind.

In fact I live in an amazing country for which I'm incredibly grateful & proud but I'm not going to apologize for it & it doesn't mean I'm not aware of the plight of billions of people who suffer daily. Nor was my comment intended to undermine their circumstances. In fact, it was more directed at people in similar circumstances to myself who complain about trivial matters when there are far bigger issues causing pain & suffering...including animals who are often subjected to pain & suffering at the hands of human beings.
Cuz cats and most animals dont really have the imaginations to think of a better living, and due to having no control have no need for such imagination, they can eat things raw and go without clothes.. we can't. We have to worry about hard to grasp moral issues.. they dont even bother. Their needs are much less than our own, ik you hate everyone but yourself but find a better thing to complain about than ironically that humans are prone to complaining.
Usually these videos are like "watch how this angry cat turned into a sweet angel." I love that Ivar is who he is and that his mom loves him for that. Touches my heart in a way few things do and makes me tear up.

Thank you for adopting Ivar! I can see you are meant for each other. I follow the same approach. I've adopted 3 cats in my time and each time i've gone to the animal shelter and asked for the cat they are finding hardest to home. The cat always has some sort of medical issue and I've adopted each one and never regretted a moment.
The thought of a cat being constantly overlooked in favour of others without issues just breaks my heart. I guess i've got a soft spot for the unwanted and the underdog (or undercat!)
