This is one of the things I love about sport climbing and that keeps me coming back to watch it. I like watching the climbing, but I love how the competitors seem to get along and support each other, they really celebrate each other's victories. I hope this never changes, it's truly a wholesome sport. :)
Watched this entire video not realizing there were subtitles and was blown away by the stellar show of skill... once I realized there were subtitles, now I have to rewatch the entire thing to get the break down lol... Awesome though!
This was much more in depth than I was expecting. Oftentimes I see Janja going for the exact same beta as the other climbers but sticking the move they couldn’t and I never understood how, surely she can’t be that much stronger? Analysing the micro betas is really helpful to know exactly what made the difference.
@@chrissmithdoe2100 you see it. In almost every dyno she ends up in a better position, closer to the wall than the other women and often its the case that she can stop her movement more abruptly. I wont say every woman has an equal good movement, but some do and she just ends up in positions that others cant. Its mostly about core strength.
@@xCNapo i will maintain that zero climbers have as good movement. And i would think that climbers like Miho, Akiyo and some others do have the same core strength, but maybe she does have some extra. It's hard to tell whether it's a matter of basic strength or knowing technically what to do with the core...
This video is really well made, very insightful and very clear and easy to follow even for someone like me that doesn't know anything from climbing or bouldering (and I barely hit 2 minutes)
Shogi is in a similar position to the chess in Europe. Of course the climbers use muscle but they should use brain. If they chose wrong stone, checkmate.
@@liggerstuxin1 Shogi is a board game unique to Japan. It is similar to chess, but the main feature is that you can use the other player’s piece after you capture it.
wow i have never even watched anything about rock climbing before. i just happened to go by this video and i must say the way you describe her technique, as well as how you compare it with the others, is really effective and easy to understand. also, obviously i have no idea who janja is but her techniques are spot on and athleticism is just crazy.
@Iberium If you watched it enough as I did, you know that height doesn't have 0 advantage. What's next you'll say there's 0 advantage in weight difference in boxing, wrestling, etc? Remember when people say a "advantage" they don't mean it's a mountain advantage, it means it's not 0.
@@Iberium Of course height can make a difference. So can hand size. Have you ever seen the “paws” that Alex Honnold has? He can easily palm a basketball. When he sticks his hand in a crevice and makes a fist, he has one hell of an anchor. Smaller handed ppl can’t physically make a fist anchor in the same one.
@@frankiek2269 Then what is it really? one month ago you said "Completely false, you clearly haven't watched the video", now you say "Of course height can make a difference", make up your mind man!
Who in the hell made these climb routes and tested them to make sure its a possible difficult climb.. he or she must be a legend.. even pro atheletes struggles eh...
The competitors only have 4 minutes to figure out the right sequence of movements and execute it correctly and by the time they've found the method they can be too tired to execute it they're at a huge disadvantage compared to the route setters who can practice as much as they want
@@warptens5652 Are you saying that they change it everyday? cause the narrator sort of saying like "no one reached the top" kinda implying that they can use the course again if no one reached the top
@@MangaGamified I'm not sure what you mean, there isn't a competition every day they set new routes for each competition yes (except in speed climbing where it's always the same route) maybe you mean between the qualifs, semis, and finals? It's different routes. "no one reached the top" means none of the competitors reached the top, after that the route isn't used for another competition
In addition to what was mentioned earlier, the route setters can also change moves so that they potentially can't even do them. I don't think it's recommended especially in competition since the competitors have limited time but if they are good setters then they will be able to judge the difficulty of a move and know how to change it to make it 1 level more difficult. This way they can set routes that are slightly beyond their own level.
今まで興味なかったボルダリングだったけれど、めっちゃ見入った。紹介される選手も凄いし、他選手とどこが違って、どうしてそれが成功に繋がったかっていう所が解説されててめっちゃ分かりやすかった。

4:37 for anyone wondering, the move she tried here is called a “figure 4” and helps you to stabilize while reaching :)
5:10 is a bathang.
