    • @josh_5_726

      Might be to Playback. Not that Yo-Yo Ma can't play the cello, just playing in the cold and wet will make your sound almost useless, so he might have opted to use a recording of himself and play to it. Or it might have been a piezo pickup or contact microphone like some acoustic guitars have.

      @@josh_5_726 It's definitely not playback. Noone can play solo bach from playback. What an honor to be the center of attention for this commemoration. Probably the best part of the ceremony. As a violin and piano player (seems that I need to identify by bona fides here), I find some of Bach's pieces very introspective, exactly what this needs. I'm about to listen a second time.

      They are truly few examples, in fact, Nazi Germany had great diplomacy tactics. But they didn't choose allies I the right way. Besides that, the secret for a nation to go right back in 20century was simply avoiding the loss of population. Soviet Union failed because great amounts of minds fled, the same case with Germany with the Jews, the Jews had a essential presence in Europe, that is: Science, Industry and Banking.

    • @JeffreyCWang
      @JeffreyCWang 5 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      The C minor Sarabande conveys multiple and ambiguous meanings, not unlike the faces of the world leaders present. Bach would often associate various keys with symbolism. In the case of C minor, it's often interpreted as anger. However, the emptiness in this music and the space it creates in the air requires somewhat of an imagination from the listener to understand. I personally think of it as giving the "silent treatment". Given that Yo-Yo played this exact Sarabande at his own father's funeral, as well as in a Japanese temple among many other places, I have no doubt it was his personal selection.

      One does not have a need to look at the musician. I'm no trump fan ,but it's stupid to throw slander saying someone doesn't enjoy music because they didn't look. We listen with out ears not our eyes. I'm tired of people saying moronic things just because they don't like someone.

      @@Michael-rh5nu It's not moronic at all, it's pretty clear from his body language and out of place glances around the place that he's in no way particularly engaged in the music (though he understands he's supposed to look like he's engaged). Compare the European leaders, transfixed and clearly engaged. Even Merkel, who isn't looking at Ma, you can clearly tell is fully in the moment of the music.

    Never have a seen a man so bored attending a service to remember those who gave their lives fighting for their country and to bring an end to the endless killing experienced during World War I. President Trump skipped the American service the day before because of the rain and certainly wasn't in a mood to remember those who gave their lives fighting for America. Never have I been so disgusted by the mere appearance of a man as I was to see the face of the American President in Paris supposedly to pay respect to those American young men who gave their lives fighting for their country in a far off land. President Trump's presence did not bring honor to the memory of all those young men who died for America - what he did do was show dishonor to America and we in America showed our dishonor for Mr Trump with the election results a few days earlier.

      For a commemorative ceremony nobody is supposed to clap. The music is not supposed to be entertainment, but a way to focus thoughts. For example, there is no clapping in church for the music performed.
