      I will have to disagree. Helen was perfect in her part and was also great with Opie and aunt Bea. Helen played the teacher part well and Andy loved her. Watch them on the show. Admiration for each other. It shows. Yes, I know he was married and divorced. Helen earned respect in the town of Mayberry but she never tried to take over the show.
      This doesn't mean Joanna wasn't absolutely great. Maybe he did not ask her to stay on the show. He had lots of ladies but they were not asked to stay on. I really do not think Joanna could have lasted 7 to 8 years. RIP to all the greats that still bring us joy and comfort, no matter how long they were on the show. We remember every one of them with respect and love.

      I liked the friend or relative of someone who could outshoot Andy at the skeet shooting range. I think she was friend of Barney's girlfriend, now that I think of her. Her outdoing Andy in such a way was kind of a fun twist with a mild sexy flavor. But she was a one hit wonder.

      @@teller1290 Second season episode, 'The Perfect Female' (Nov. 27, 1961) guest starring Gail Davis, 35, as Thelma Lou's crack shot cousin, Karen.
      Arkansas native Gail Davis, tv's "Annie Oakley" (1954 - 57) and Gene Autry's Flying A Productions' film and TV contract player thru portions of the late '40 to mid '50s, looked like she was born with that over-under (shotgun) in Karen's hands. What's remarkable, especially for "TAGS" fans, is that out of Gail's dozens and dozens of credits, this guest shot was her final onscreen performance! (ed. - according to IMDB). She was so good in 'The Perfect Female.' Andy definitely looked like he was having a good time. AND the writers wrote her character well.
      Most children in the '50s and early '60s were enthralled with Saturday morning live-action half hours like "Sky King," "Fury," "Buffalo Bill, Jr.," "Roy Rogers," "Annie Oakley" (sharp-shooting Annie with her little brother Tagg, about 12) in both first-run and network repeats, before ABC's, NBC's and CBS's switch to cartoons in the '60s. Lots of boys wanted to be Tagg; lots of dads wanted a shot at Annie.
      Can you imagine a hit sitcom today where part of the plot shows the male lead enthusiastically participating in trap / skeet shooting?! If it did get past the network censors several of the pc-minded advertisers would remove their spots for sure, meaning the networks couldn't afford to take a financial bath for that week's show. . . . And if Ron Howard was invited by an elementary school to be a guest speaker and tell the children what it was like playing Opie when he was their age; in the chance he brought that episode as an example, why, he'd by tarred and feathered by some of the staff AND some of the appreciative children's parents.

    She was my favorite of all of Andy's on-stage romances. I heard bits and pieces about her problems in life that just didn't seem to fit such a beautiful woman but were true. Such a down-home, all-American girl that these vices and demons wouldn't leave alone. Thank you for putting this all together with much respect you showed toward her.

    I was watching an episode of Andy Griffith off of Sundance, where Miss Peggy fills in temporarily for Aunt Bee. She comes over to Andy’s house and sees he burnt the chicken. She fixes up the place and gets a candle light dinner feast for Andy and Opie and herself. After dinner, they’re on the porch. Andy grabs his guitar. They’re singing. I forgot name of song. She has a real nice soft singing voice though. Very pleasant to the ear.
    Found out later (further readings) that she is Tatum O’Neal’s Mom.

    Joanna Moore was a wonderful actress with a great sense for displaying subtle humor with spot-on comic timing. I never tire of watching her appearances on "The Alfred Hitchcock Hour" (1962-1965) where she was featured in two different episodes: "Who Needs an Enemy" and "Crimson Witness." She also made appearances on "Alfred Hitchcock Presents" (1955-1962) when the show ran for a half hour. Thank you for this sweet tribute!

      @@tonyadianasalisbury3959 Moore had a largely tragic life. Her family were all killed in a car accident when she was a young girl. This must've been a highly traumatic start to her life which psychologically shadowed her for long thereafter. I think it led to lifelong substance abuse and great unhappiness with those nearest to her. RIP

      Her stone is very similar to her parents stone. I recorded more video on the graves right above hers but it was corrupted. The ones above her are her grandparents and they have stones like that too. The only real difference is that the others have a concrete cover and hers doesn't. I don't know for sure but I would guess that there is some kind of policy where family plots have to look somewhat similar. Thanks for watching.

      I grew up in Americus. She was 11 years older than me. I just turned 78 in February. Americus is also known for having two head coaches in the NFL AT THE same time. Most people remember Dan Reeves who died on 1-1-22. He was only 1 Year and 18 days older than me. I went to school with him ; 1st at a small county school New Era, then at Americus High where as a Senior Dan helped us win State Championships in basketball and baseball PLUS in football he broke his collarbone, missed 4 games, but he healed up and at the close of the season and we played and beat Dublin in Dublin 26-21 who won the State Championship at the end of the season and had also won the championship the year before the season. In the 4 games he missed one was a regional game and we lost it 7 to 6. Back then if you lost a region game you got disqualified for the playoffs. Dan was an All State basketball player and was drafted by a big league baseball team but in football he only was honored as HONORABLE MENTION since he missed those 4 games. His cousin Jerry Reeves was All State BACK OF THE YEAR that same year 1960. Jerry, a very good friend of mine, picked up an AMAZING 13.3 yards a carry that season. Both Dan and Jerry were invited to the Ga. North/South all Star game. Jerry had a good game. Dan was held out of the starting QB job till the North got ahead by a couple of touchdowns. The South coach put him in and he brought the South team back to a victory. Dan was awarded the Most Valuable Player of the game. Most of the other players were a year older as Dan started to school at the age of 5. The South Carolina Gamecocks had already offered him a Scholarship so with his fine character he turned down the opportunities many of the big southern schools offered him following that game. Charles Chappell, Americus, Ga.
      By the way the other Head Coach is Chan Gaily who was a QB at Americus High, later at Univ. of Florida Gators. He started as a Sophomore, and lettered 3 years. Chan coached at Ga. Tech for about 6 Years. Also I believe he was Head Coach at the Air Force Academy and one the Natl. Champ for the Division they play in. In pro ball he was head coach of the Dallas Cowboy’s, coached at Denver with Dan for a few years and a few other teams. He was also the Head Coach at another Pro Team up near New York

    She worked alot on TV in the fifties and sixties. She was Ryan O'Neil's first wife and Tatum's Mom. Ryan, who was 7 years younger, was typical when his star was rising, he dumped her when she needed him most. After that, she became addicted to alcohol and she was diagnosed with Cancer. I wish she could have lived longer, especially for Tatum.

    I lived in Americus when the tornado devastated the town. I worked at the Zaxby's and had fallen off a porch the night it happened and had to go to the hospital. the tornado ripped through and destroyed everything. All of the employees of the restaurant came together to help those devastated by the storm. One thing that I distinctly remember was us going up and down the highway and picking up the pieces of wall art from the restaurant that had been scattered about for miles. George W. visited the town and declared an emergency. I left shortly after the town's destruction and went on to 'bigger and better things'. It was a painful time for many Americans, including myself. It is also worth mentioning that much hasn't changed since. I didn't know that she was laid to rest there. I will visit her the next time I head back through. 💕 Subscribed.

    I remember her on the Andy Griffith Show. Not clearly but vaguely. I had been noticing your video for about a day. So I cheated a little and read her Wiki article. Life is all about choices. Some choices are good for you others bad. Her Daughter Tatum has had her own struggles with substance abuse. Life throws a lot of wrinkles in out pathway and one of the challenges are what mechanisms we use to cope with it's challenges. Usually children learn things about life from their parents. Neither Joanne or Ryan were very good in showing positive ways to handle stress. So given that as a legacy it helps me to understand and empathize more with Tatum's addictions.

    • @BrotherTim
      @BrotherTim  3 ปีที่แล้ว
