I also use the pry end for opening paint cans and lifting staples and nails. My blades last a long time and are easy to remove and replace. My blade holder is metal. I still carry a folding knife (Chris Reeve), but it gets little use. This tool is among the best $20 I’ve ever spent.
You did see the video, right? That's called a critical failure. It doesn't matter if you didn't experience a problem, this guy did which means quality is inconsistent.
I just got this today. The blade on the prybrid x hard to re-sit once it is removed but it is not impossible. You have to be patient. That being said, I have heard that people have a difficult time finding replacement blades that fit. (# 11 X-Acto). I paid approximately $20 on Amazon. I would say that this is approximately a $12 tool. If you're looking for a good bargain check out Gerbers EAB.
The problem is that on the PRYBRID X the blade-lock is made of plastic, and does not hold tension very well, on the PRYBRID utility the blade-lock is made of metal.
I have both Prybrids and carry them. No issues with either. The Prybrid X, I chipped the original blade so I went out and found X-acto brand #11 replacements. They appear to have a titanium coated edge. Made in U.S.A. the blades themselves are sharp and extremely pointy. Very delicate, but I ran into a new problem. The replacement blades do not fit quite as tightly as the Gerber blade. The stamped detent on the blade retainer really needs two stampings for the X-acto blade's long slot. So the blade is held within. My example securely locks unlike Diezelle57's. On my example you need to make sure the blade is pushed into the tool before retracting it. The longer blade of the X-acto can stick out of the prybrid and potentially poke or cut you by accident. So X-acto could be a little more precise on their blade manufacturing. My blades are not all uniform. They have slightly varying lengths and grinds. Which obviously isn't an issue for the usual X-acto knife handle. The slot in the head of the blades is consistent and uniform with all of my blades. The slot varies slightly from the Gerber blade the tool comes with. It has more play when installed. This play could be a problem for an E.D.C. pocket tool that you slide in and out of your pocket. Gerber could make the Prybrid stamping a little more precise for #11 blades. Other than the issues stated. My copy still works as I need it to and I have found it to be incredibly useful. I suggest Diezelle use the warranty or exchange his dud for a better example before he casts his judgement on a product. It's understandable why he has a harsh opinion with the tool he recieved.
@@aidentk5158 For the convenience I have been using X-acto brand blades. As I mentioned the blades have varying lengths from the factory. They are sharp and so far I have no complaints on cutting performance. You might try the X-acto Z series # 11. Which is what I am using. The standard # 11 X-acto and the Excel brand # 11 appear to be more consistent with their shape. Not sure where you live. These two brands are easy for me to find locally so this is what I have been using.
@@mackjones7688 thanks for the reply for where i live X-acto is everywhere, Z series can be found too just little bit pricy compare to the basic X-acto but im okay with it as long as without those blade fitting issue i work as a bartender/barista this little handy little tool helps a lot when i open a box , packaging , pry open a new can of ingredient etc
I totally agree with you brother, do not buy, especially the Gerber brand, all their products have more than 2 things that are always bad or terrible, they should really focus on their quality standards and not only dedicate themselves to producing, because even if they earn a lot from each of their products, in the long run, their reputation will be so damaged that nobody will really buy anything from them again, and less with the competition that there is, such as Leatherman, Victorinox ... or much worse for Gerber, their Chinese competitors which are cheap and very good quality for their prices, like Xiaomi
I got the prybrid, and it's way too hard to slid open. I understand it has a locking quality but it's just too hard to slide open. There are products similar to this for half this price. I don't get it.
Maybe a dud clone? cuz i don't think it's supposed to have as plastic lock. Then again, idk cuz i don't have the prytool x, i got the bigger box cutter brother of that tool.
When putting the blade back in, you're supposed to slide it in until it locks. You don't want to lift the locking plate as you did in the video, as this may bend the plate, and the lock will engage no more. In later shots in the video you can see that it's not in the position that it was in the beginning of the video. Shouldn''t give a tool a bad grade if you misuse it.
So I just checked and confirmed that the blade does not and cannot lock (the blade comes to a stop when the locking pin is not at the hole). This has nothing to do with the folding plate. You shouldn't take people for fools. I add two dead threads, way too much clearance for the moving crew. This tool is a shame. I changed the title and deleted the comment considering that my copy could be the only one with this malfunction. And I would have deleted the video if it turned out that my opinion was wrong.

No, the sliding cart is made of metal. The problem is the wrong dimensioning of this cart.

My blades are not all uniform. They have slightly varying lengths and grinds. Which obviously isn't an issue for the usual X-acto knife handle. The slot in the head of the blades is consistent and uniform with all of my blades. The slot varies slightly from the Gerber blade the tool comes with. It has more play when installed. This play could be a problem for an E.D.C. pocket tool that you slide in and out of your pocket. Gerber could make the Prybrid stamping a little more precise for #11 blades. Other than the issues stated. My copy still works as I need it to and I have found it to be incredibly useful. I suggest Diezelle use the warranty or exchange his dud for a better example before he casts his judgement on a product. It's understandable why he has a harsh opinion with the tool he recieved.

@@aidentk5158 For the convenience I have been using X-acto brand blades. As I mentioned the blades have varying lengths from the factory. They are sharp and so far I have no complaints on cutting performance. You might try the X-acto Z series # 11. Which is what I am using. The standard # 11 X-acto and the Excel brand # 11 appear to be more consistent with their shape. Not sure where you live. These two brands are easy for me to find locally so this is what I have been using.

Z series can be found too just little bit pricy compare to the basic X-acto but im okay with it as long as without those blade fitting issue

I totally agree with you brother, do not buy, especially the Gerber brand, all their products have more than 2 things that are always bad or terrible, they should really focus on their quality standards and not only dedicate themselves to producing, because even if they earn a lot from each of their products, in the long run, their reputation will be so damaged that nobody will really buy anything from them again, and less with the competition that there is, such as Leatherman, Victorinox ... or much worse for Gerber, their Chinese competitors which are cheap and very good quality for their prices, like Xiaomi

I got the prybrid, and it's way too hard to slid open. I understand it has a locking quality but it's just too hard to slide open. There are products similar to this for half this price. I don't get it.

When putting the blade back in, you're supposed to slide it in until it locks. You don't want to lift the locking plate as you did in the video, as this may bend the plate, and the lock will engage no more. In later shots in the video you can see that it's not in the position that it was in the beginning of the video. Shouldn''t give a tool a bad grade if you misuse it.
So I just checked and confirmed that the blade does not and cannot lock (the blade comes to a stop when the locking pin is not at the hole). This has nothing to do with the folding plate. You shouldn't take people for fools. I add two dead threads, way too much clearance for the moving crew. This tool is a shame. I changed the title and deleted the comment considering that my copy could be the only one with this malfunction. And I would have deleted the video if it turned out that my opinion was wrong.
