I've had mine since they first came out years ago. One of the original before they finally added a clip. Have never had any problems changing the blade. I use mine several times a week. So hope you figure it out. Good luck.
Just got mine today. It’s the new version with the clip. I’ve been trying to get the blade out for some time now. No luck so far . I am thinking of trying to use a screwdriver or some pliers. Any suggestions ?
I have the early grey model and I found that if I lock the blade into the blade change position I can't move the little lock tab far enough to get the blade out. However, instead of locking the blade into the blade change position, if I keep the main button depressed and keep pushing the blade out of the handle, mine will go about 1/8" past the lock position and that exposes a bit more of the bendable lock tab which gives just enough extra leverage when I push it to remove the blade. I use my thumbnail to do it, but it looks like you trim yours way too short for that. It's still not easy, but it's doable.
¡ JUST WATCHED YOUR VIDEO & i HAVE TO SAY i FOUND IT A LITTLE CHALLENGING TO CHANCE THE BLADE BUT CERTAINLY NOT IMPOSSIBLE ! THE GUARD THAT HOLDS THE BLADE IN PLACE IS A LITTLE STIFF & i ACTUALLY HAD MORE TROUBLE PUTTING THE BLADE IN THAN TAKING IT OUT !
I had this same issue with mine at certain points. Pushing the circle plate to the side instead of pressing straight down against the edge lets the blade slide right out without any issue. The only thing can be a little tricky is positioning you fingernail on the edge of the circle with a safe grip on the handle while the blade is out, but once you get that it's smooth sailing.
I just got this tool and yes taking the blade is difficult but the major flaw I found was when using the small prybar the blade comes out if u add pressure and almost cut my self so be careful out there. I’ll kept it in my tool box from now on.
@Survival-gyver The portion that holds the blade has a tab with a dimple, which retains the blade. You just press it down and pull the blade out. I pressed it with my thumbnail
I had great difficulty in changing the blade for my original prybrid. I nearly cut myself. Maybe it loosens over time or the spring tension varies in tolerance from the factory, since others say theirs changes blades easily. I just ordered the new blue model with the clip.
It seems to be a crap shoot. Though I am one of the few that makes videos about pro's and con's of gear. I think Gerber as a whole has gotten so big as a company, that their Quality Control has become lax. As much as I enjoy many Gerber Gear products, I have quite a few problems with their tools.
On Amazon the top description for each color choice will say clip. Each color has distinct clip labeling and in the photos of each color way are correct.
3 or 4 min would pull the video off search bar. Video needs to be a minimum of 8 mins. Every one of my videos are reviews, and going over the details of the product, and where possible, a comparison to a brand new product. Sorry to disappoint you.
@@Survival-gyver I'm sure you can change the blade if you try harder. A bigger flaw is that while grippy enough on the flats of the handle, the edges are pretty smooth and your fingers could slip up onto the edge. I plan to add some texture there.
I thought this multitool was thoe answer to my prayers! I do property maintenance plus i work at a grocery store so a multitool with a utility blade seemed like ot would fit all my needs but then i read the blade only has one locking position and this confirms that that the actual lock/release mechanism is poorly designed, for my uses at least. Thanks
Good question. G10 is a high strength fiberglass laminate, while glass filled nylon is a type of plastic. G10 has a higher strength-to-weight ratio than glass-filled Nylon, which means that you don’t need as much material to achieve the same strength. Therefore, it is much lighter compared to glass filled nylon, while also being lower in cost than glass filled nylon.
Hola yo tengo el modelo antiguo y la cuchilla la cambio fácil como tu lo has hecho con el modelo nuevo por cierto el nuevo modelo verde OD con clip las cachas son de G10 solo el verde los demás son de FRN Un saludo
I bought one this summer and find the blade impossiblr so far. Commentors who can do it likely have great strength in their fingers, perhaps exceptional. I expect with the right tools and persistence I will get mine changed but this is an unforced error on Gerbers part.
The eighth tool is the pry tool. Aslothe little nubbin is super hard to move out the way wthout a little bit of fingernail. The real flaw is the locking mechanism stops locking after a few months
Bro thank you for making this video. I saw so many reviews so bought this a couple of months ago. Instant regret when it was a chore to change blades. I returned it instantly and just switched to milwakee fastback. I know gerber have quality control issues but i would have expected better. Honesly its put me off gerber products for life.
Its not about views, the blade issue is a common problem. There are several commenter's here who have had the same issue. Unlike most people saying only good things, I only do honest reviews, if there is an issue, I state it. To make it fair, I will usually buy a second one, to test against. Sometimes the second one works, sometimes it doesn't. Either way you get to see it, as it happens.
Let me save you 23 minutes. The chance of cutting yourself when changing the blade is extremely high. Not worth the risk. Looks cool, but in actual functionality it’s a dud. Returned mine.
If anything here interests you, please like and subscribe, so I can make more and better content for y'all. And feel free to comment and critique

I like how long the video is. It is the type of video I was looking to watch after buying one.

I’ve had mine since it came out and I’ve never had an issue removing the blade.
Then you got lucky.
Helpful video. Thanks for sharing.
Noticed the blue has a different G10 pattern.
AMZ shows the blue color with a clip now.
The blue is glass reinforced plastic, not g10.
Mine was very difficult to swap but needle nose pliers helped a lot!

Thanks for the review. I am very happy with mine which I received as a gift. My blade changed easily (clip)
Glad to hear you've had a better experience than me.
I had the a one 3 Yrs ago no problem with the blade change. I now have the blue one with clip and its very difficult to change the blade
Blade broke off in the utility knife. You have tricks up your sleeve on how to get it out with no tip to on?
Since I have never gotten the blade out of this, you're probably going to have to take it apart to get the blade out.
The cutting notch for the string is deeper and has more of the blade exposed when closed….!
I did not have an issue replacing the blade. Just push hard enough, and it comes out. Put a Lennox Gold blade in mine
Good choice in blade. Even with pliers I could not get the blade to release.

They do now, back when I did this video, there was no description saying otherwise.
23 minutes for what could have been told in 3-4 minutes. Took me 7 minutes to find the "major flaw".

I thought similar, but yes, it needs alot of work.
My G10 has the same problem cant remove blade,Belt clips are an extra cost on Amazon
Yes, the ones with belt clips are more expensive, with a crappier handle material. Reminds me of shrinkflation

@@staywoke2198 Your welcome, and thanks for watching.
Yeah, mine was hard as hell to change, but it’s doable. I have the gray one.
I don't think I ever bought utility blades or a utility knife that didn't have a little oil on it.
Oil is fine, the inability to change the blade out is the biggest problem.
I prefer it without the belt clip

pull the vey top of the release back with ur finger nail instead of pushing the entire release from the side

@@jamesseager8126 And it snaps after about two years - Thankfully Gerber honored the warranty though!
From what gerber said online the newer one is still g10
Gerber's own website for the model with the pocket clip is glass reinforced nylon. So if it's G10, they need to fix their website.
thank you it worked

I don't see why your inability to remove the blade is the fault of Gerber. Yes it's a difficult process, but others can, and do manage it.
It is difficult for me and for others. It shouldn't be impossible to remove the blade, that makes the knife useless.
you need to press harder dude.. for real, like the "dot" you press on needs to fall behind the blade to be able to pull it out...
Even with a pry bar pushing on it, it doesn't release. Its a common failure of this tool.
Easily removed, no issue at all.
You got lucky. There are thousands of complains of the blade release not working.
