"I want to be a force for good, in other words I know that there are forces of evil, forces that cause suffering to others and misery to the world, but I want to be an opposite force. I want to be the force with which to do good" . John Coltrane
wise words! I say be motivated by love, not romance, but pure love, the kind of love that babies have towards their parents and vs versa! Love is the most powerful force in the universe and causes darkness to flee!
Him and Art Blakey both. I remember one night at the Jazz Gallery when Blakey's Jazz Messengers (the great sextet) and Coltrane's quartet were appearing together, alternating sets, and at one point both groups joined forces for a couple of tunes. When it came to drum-solo time Art and Elvin went into orbit---too bad the set was never recorded, because those two put on a regular clinic! "Fantastic" is a gross understatement for what I saw and heard.
Years ago I saw an interview with Elvin Jones, when asked how he kept perfect time while being so active and innovative with his own improvisation while literally every other player was doing the same but especially the long complex improvisation of Coltraine and he said he constantly tapped out the time signature using the high hat symbol then demonstrated how he did it while playing insane rhythmic improvisation of his own. It was extraordinary, blew me away!
This kind of pretension makes the world a worse place, and you saying this shows you have a bigger ego than the kind of people you’re talking about. Just let people live, dawg.
To Samuelklappper: This is a masterpiece , no doubt. It's funny that it was realeased 50 years after Coltrane s death, probably discovered by accident....To be honest Coltrane is too subtle for me, but this piece really grooves!!!!!
It's like the first time I heard afro blue live at the village vanguard in 1963, like the first time I ever heard John Coltrane, a true gem, thank you impulse!
I just dig John Coltrane. The way he approaches music and composition. I am not a musician, but his music gives order to chaos, and calm in fear. Clarity even when there is doubt.
man, i just want to heat this bridge and theme in loop forever. the loud kicks and bass and that beat, next to this beautiful melody. so damn soulful, makes me extatic. special stuff
He is in our hearts. This reminds me of Trane's soprano work on 'Live at Birdland.' Elvin's drumming reminds me of his work in the studio version of 'Out of This World.'
Wow simply amazing musicianship. Both Miles Davis and John Coltrane always had talent around them while in the studio making an album or on tour. Gotta love the tunes relaxing and chaotic at times.
nothing swings harder sweeter more beautifully,,,than these four cats,,,sheer joy....this is the real stairway to heavenly heights hitherto unknown hahahaha yeah !!
i got a notification for this video despite not even being subscribed to this channel. the only reason i could imagine TH-cam doing this is because of the Adam Neely video i watched on this topic?
Oh this is SWEET - as in first song of the day with a good coffee and the first rays of sun looking out at a picturesque yard or city block or whatever surrounds. Glad this album was discovered.
Coltrane rimane, per me,il miglior sassofonista di tutti Mi ha regalato,e continua a regalarmi emozioni indescrivibili.John ti mando un forte abbraccio ovunque tu sia...
So this head reminds you of "Impressions". I suppose that's why he went on into free jazz. Perhaps felt he was running out of new things to play in the straight ahead format. I love this though.
When coltrane dies just so that his physical being no longer weighs down his musical freedom, thus allowing him to transcend spacetime and travel to the future just to release this album.
GRANDMASTER JOH,N COLTRANE,,, AND MAHAVISHNU JOHN MCLAUGHLIN , TOLD ME TO ADVANCE HUMANIT;Y WE MUST ACHIEVE UNITY WITH THE VIBRATIONAL FREQUENCY OF THE UNIVERSE ,,,,,, AMEN !!!!!
Coltrane is so hip he is releasing new albums 50 years after he died.
The next Tupac for sure.
the original tupac
dude that's funny- and true!
Well its his son, Ravi that we have to thank for this release :-)
This is so good I can’t even sample it

I swear to Almighty God Elvin Jones Has the most freakiest rhythm that I have ever heard from a drummer he is just from another planet
Him and Art Blakey both. it's all in the triplets, bro. all in the triplets

Happy Heavenly Birthday 🙏🙏🙏
McCoy is killin' it
Coltrane and McCoy were legendary together
Man McCoy was doing so much work

this would have been a standard had it been released. both of those main themes are so great.
Easily one of my favorite works of all time. This is so brilliant-- thanks to all who helped release this to the general public.
To Samuelklappper: This is a masterpiece , no doubt. It's funny that it was realeased 50 years after Coltrane s death, probably discovered by accident....To be honest Coltrane is too subtle for me, but this piece really grooves!!!!!
There'll never be enough space in air for Coltrane's works, even in our hearts.
Coltrane is not dead.
uhhhh
1926-1967
If you think he's not dead I suggest you take a little "tour" at the nearest psych ward
sometime i forget i got to compose with stupid people, even on the comment section of a jazz video.
nos coeurs sont son tombeau
never. pleonasme hhh :D
Fresh now as in the 60s. Just goes to show genius is never finished. Bright moments!
Its like eating your last porkchop in London, England.
It's like the first time I heard afro blue live at the village vanguard in 1963, like the first time I ever heard John Coltrane, a true gem, thank you impulse!
At this stage , John Coltrane began to embrace free jazz.
Nah not really...
I just dig John Coltrane. The way he approaches music and composition. I am not a musician, but his music gives order to chaos, and calm in fear. Clarity even when there is doubt.
New Coltrane music in 2018! What a time to b alive
man, i just want to heat this bridge and theme in loop forever. the loud kicks and bass and that beat, next to this beautiful melody. so damn soulful, makes me extatic. special stuff

My heartbeat quickens because my soul feels so good
Obrigado por terem existido Elvin Jones, John Coltrane e Jimmy Garrison. R.I.P.
This might be my favourite off the album
WOW!! I'm not sure I know what to add to that. I'm stunned once again by the beauty, and complexity, interwoven into another gemstone. Thank you!!
He is in our hearts. This reminds me of Trane's soprano work on 'Live at Birdland.' Elvin's drumming reminds me of his work in the studio version of 'Out of This World.'
Puts me in a trance
i especially like tht cathcy grrove at the end of every repeat
Coltrane isn't dead, it's just for his new album Both Directions at Once
Elvin Jones also back to life! Some serious inspiration here! Can't wait for my CD!
Wow simply amazing musicianship. Both Miles Davis and John Coltrane always had talent around them while in the studio making an album or on tour. Gotta love the tunes relaxing and chaotic at times.
Hands Down, The Greatest Quartet That Walked The Earth! A Group Of Pioneer G.O.A.T.S!! SMH..The Way Elvin Drops Bombs, Is Incredibly Intriguing!!🔥🔥
nothing swings harder sweeter more beautifully,,,than these four cats,,,sheer joy....this is the real stairway to heavenly heights hitherto unknown hahahaha yeah !!
Coltrane may be dead, but his music sure isn’t!!
i got a notification for this video despite not even being subscribed to this channel. the only reason i could imagine TH-cam doing this is because of the Adam Neely video i watched on this topic?
Yuval Hirsch that Adam Neely video was an ad for this. I saw that same press release 4 times last week.
Hope it will soon be played in jam sessions, a great head well served with Trane's solos
What a sound, man!!! The best of all time. best jazz cuartet
jazz what?
Strangely, a masterpiece!
Elvin(polyrhymic)Jones
He is the greatest of all time
Coltrane blows against injustices in the world...
Most of the time Coltrane is too subtle for me. But this Untitled piece swings!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh this is SWEET - as in first song of the day with a good coffee and the first rays of sun looking out at a picturesque yard or city block or whatever surrounds. Glad this album was discovered.
oui c'est doux comme ce printemps à Paris

I like this more than 11383 thought that one is good too. Great tune. Is this going to become standard?
Ben Perschall It certainly has the potential
Seiken I hope it does
I hope so
If my homemade lead sheet has something to say about it, yea.
By now it is. Trane retitled it; he called it "Something Chinese"---to which I add, with shrimp fried rice and a vegetable eggroll. Yum.
j en ai des frissons de joie
What can I say? Phenomenal stuff!

Thank you !
Elvin !!!
On of the great innovators of jazz music. After Sidney Bechet , he is the one who made the soprano sax a major voice in jazz
He took it waayyy farther than bechet. Haha
You don't have to gloat. I am expressing my view. Your view is correct. So is mine. I am not comparing players.
@@charlesbarry6730 yawn stfu pussy
@@rebelfountain85 you sir are correct!
ON FIRE! BR
I love how he broke down beat dope didn't know he was north Carolina like me him and mook
Thanks for upload!
John Coltrane did for the soprano sax what Coleman Hawkins did for the tenor sax.
nossa, que sorte a minha estar vivo para ouvir isso.
Younger generation may know his grandson who produces music under the moniker Flying Lotus.
not his grandson.
like great nephew i think
Ah yes! You're right. His grandmother was Coltrane's sister?
No, Coltrane's wife. Not related by blood.
When coltrane dies just so that his physical being no longer weighs down his musical freedom, thus allowing him to transcend spacetime and travel to the future just to release this album.
I wish they had released this years ago
damn, so groooooovy
Great! ... May I ask what these numbers "11386 " mean?
3:54
Yeah
Which was the line-up??
The classic quartet
Lorenzo Siri Coltrane - Saxes, Jimmy Garrison - Bass, Elvin Jones - Drums, McCoy Tyner - Piano
Good God!
On the edge of a Depression, another shelter-in-place (or worse)...Pray for us, Trane.
EVEN JAMES BROWN WAS LIKE BUMP ME SOME TRANE
3:08 your welcome

These tracks were discovered in 2004.
The begining sounds very oriental to me
GRANDMASTER JOH,N COLTRANE,,,
AND MAHAVISHNU JOHN MCLAUGHLIN ,
TOLD ME
TO ADVANCE HUMANIT;Y
WE MUST ACHIEVE UNITY WITH
THE VIBRATIONAL FREQUENCY OF
THE UNIVERSE ,,,,,, AMEN !!!!!
John Coltrane the next Tupac of releasing dope new music even after his death!
Lavalval Dragon if anything they were both a continuation of sun ra's tradition
Can we find a tittle for this track ?
In fact, now there is one. 'Trane decided to call it "Something Chinese".
i was thinking about "croisière sur le Nil"
Comme nous sommes chanceux encore des pistes fraiche a se taper!
I’m here for the comments
Kasami Washington is amazi...oh wait
Who is the pianist in this?
McCoy Tyner played in Coltrane's famous quartet.
👍
What?! 23 people have no feeling, nor soul!
Not to mention...they never learned the changes to "Chopsticks"!
Maybe ginger, they are soulless
Elvin Jones and Jimmy Garrison:)
yes ,give some props to the Great Jimmy Garrison, the least lauded of the greatest quartet of musicians ever
Man when the band breaks around 4 minutes
Tell me of a better rhythm section
Jeremiah Vink if you couldn’t understand what he meant by Coletrane isn’t dead you shouldn’t be on this comment section
