    UPDATE: I did get a chance to try out the built in pre-amp and it is awesome! AT has disappointed me with their built ins in the past... The LP-5 had a truly awful pre-amp with ceap noisy chips. AT added a noise gate to cover their sins and it made for audio gutting in and out on low passages on clean records. The new ATs pre-amp is clean and reboot and it makes the $50 VM95E sound very good... Nice job, AT!

    • @manFromPeterborough
      @manFromPeterborough 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Does the noise gate affect USB transfers? I found it extreme;y annoying on the Sky 2 S4 on the long fade out before Tocata. I bought a Little Bear T7 for my first preamp, then I upgraded to the TEC TC-778 followed by the 780LC booster box, I'm wanting to upgrade to a 140XP TT, but is still too pricey

    I was really thinking of getting the U-Turn Orbit or Fluance RT-81 but I'm so glad I didn't after seeing this video. The add-ons for the Orbit jack the price up more than I want and both of them experience speed fluctuations, which I'd imagine is very irritating!

    2.5 questions please: 1 - would you prefer direct drive (to me seems more accurate) or belt (which probably has some kind of infrared sensing for speed stability)? --- 2: Why not use the internal phono amp? Wouldn't that have lower THD and less distance for the very low signal to travel?

    • @EzeeLinux
      @EzeeLinux  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I find that belt drive is more pleasing to the ear at this price point. Really, really good direct drive can only be had for well over $1000 these days. I prefer to use the pre-amp built into my classic JVC amp because of it's very low noise and superior headroom. No, I have not tried the internal one but I have been disappointed by most I've heard. Fine for a quick dub into a computer or something but not great for serious listening. Three feet of heavy cable isn't going to cause audible issues with sound quality unless there's something majorly wrong.

    I am curious about the speed regulation. I've not seen any specific details about this turntable being different than other AT units. I was just about to pull the trigger on a fluance RT82 because the do indicate using an FC servo motor.

    • @EzeeLinux
      @EzeeLinux  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      There isn't a great deal of information about how AT is doing it but the machine definitely has some sort of servo feedback going to the motor. As far as I can tell. it's dead on perfect pitch and very smooth... It has the accuracy of quartz locked direct drive but the flutter free sound of a belt. Very nice so far. :)

    • @ChadBlair4003
      @ChadBlair4003 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@EzeeLinux I did find that they updated their website for the AT95VM cartridge change and, at the same time, indicate that this turntable and the one above it are now DC servo motors. Strange that the W%F spec did not change, though. Cool beans. I may get the version of this offered on Drop (MassDrop) that has a tone arm with VTA adjustment and put my Stanton 681EEE on it. My vintage decks are getting iffy on there speed control. My ears are not too sensitive to speed and wow & flutter, but I still would prefer as stable a playback speed as possible. Also, I already have an AT XP3 cart which sound pretty good, so that keeps me in the AT family. Thanks for the reply!

      I didn't keep the LP 5 for long. It had a lot of rumble and I wasn't pleased with the quality of the arm. Maybe they've addressed those issues now. It was still a good table, though. @@EzeeLinux Yea the problem with those built in preamps is they kind of defeat one of the purposes of having a turntable, which is a phono analog experience. They do that by forcing you to use aux or digitally powered speakers. Adding higher signal to noise ratio. If I get this turntable I will never use that.
