I learned how important-dare I say, mandatory?!-the 1/4” seam on my first log cabin. It turned out too small. After ripping it apart, I found I could not use any of the pieces. I learned my lesson!
I used a two inch strip for the outside logs to have space to trim after applique. Only cut one and one half inch strips for logs and trim to size after sewing.

I am hand sewing my log cabin blocks because I want to be able to enter my quilt in "hand sewn hand quilted".
