    They suspect ice to be in permanently-shaded craters, so that really got me thinking about the possibility of finding large quantities of it deep in caves. Absolutely fascinating.

    • @Chris.Davies
      @Chris.Davies ปีที่แล้ว

      That seems incredibly unlikely. There's no source of water down there, and no source of energy to make silicon hydroxide from silicon oxide in the lunar regolith. That requires high energy photons, which can't get into caves. It is likely that much of the water on the moon's surface today is a result of silicon hydroxide reacting with hydrogen over incredibly long periods of time.
      There should be small amounts of silver in the same regolith.

    Any permanent base on the moon must be underground due to the intense radiation. These caves and lava tubes will have to be assessed for their potential use as locations for permanent bases.

      @@nemesisnick66Thankfully there's so little atmospheric particles on the moon to transfer that coldness, otherwise that would be a big issue!
      However, a base will have atleast some contact to the extremely cold lunar surface, hence, we'll build them in caves that have a much better thermal regulation, and won't be as cold. (so we don't use as much resources heating up the base)

    Nice reporting. I just found you and subscribed immediately. A little help with your Latin pronunciation on "Mare" for lunar seas. For a video like this, I would simply use the English convention, and call it "Sea of Tranquility". BUT, if you are going to use the latin name, be aware that "Mare" is pronounced "MAH-reh" with emphasis on the first syllable. IDEALLY, you would trip the "r" as we do in Spanish, but that is hard for some individuals, so a rounded American "r" would be fine, and "mare" would then rhyme with "FAR-way", more or less. Hope this helps.

  • @marktrain9498

    • @DrekslerAstral
      @DrekslerAstral  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I just checked, apparently "mah ray" is also not the Latin way of pronouncing the word, it's just closer to the original compared to "mayr" but it's still noticeably different. So this is just another case of English not making sense in terms of pronunciation as it is not based on consistent and logical rules. I don't think people should "cah ray" too much about this. You can find the Latin pronunciation here: forvo.com/word/mare/#la

    It's safe to assume that we'll eventually explore some of these pits, which is very exciting, but I think it's also safe to assume that it will not be in the very near future. Being that there are so many of them, I'm "worried" that we'll explore one or two -- or possibly a small handful -- and ultimately decide that there's no point in exploring others, potentially missing out on an incredible discovery of some sort that may lay within the pits that end up being unexplored.
    I've always believed that pits and lava tubes throughout the moon have the potential to be excellent locations for colonies, better protecting colonists from solar radiation, so I definitely hope that we not only explore as many of them as possible but that we also use them to our advantage.
    I'm a major space-nut so I seriously struggle to be patient with missions on other bodies -- i.e the moon, Mars, etc. -- as well as the colonizing of other worlds within our solar system, space exploration, and so forth, and I absolutely hate waiting for these kinds of things to eventually happen.

      We can't get the Government out of SpaceX's way or we would already be back on the moon. They have delayed Starship Development by 2 years and at SpaceX pace that was enough time to perfect Starship & Super Heavy. They would be ready for Service TODAY if it wasn't for Government Delays, instead of still waiting for the go ahead on a 2nd test flight that should have been done 2 years ago. We should be launching the first Cargo Ship for the Moon Research Lab that we visit for the 2 week Daytime Window then shut down and return to earth during the Night Time. But that is just one of the things I would promote as President. Get behind SpaceX, Electric Vehicles, Thorium reactors (as a safer power source until Fusion is running), Bio research to CURE DISEASE not WEAPONIZE it, Fair and reasonable tax system for all, housing food and social services for the poor and not 1 Homeless Veteran in America! But that is just what I would do.

    A rubble pit moon with a light metal core?. As it collected from the accretion disc or ring, the impacts form solidification of the surface, with ferrite overflow pillars holding it up, retaining its rubble structure inside between the sheets, giving much room for cave like cell structures in layers. As the rubble pit moon grew it put new layers on top of already formed circular solidifications. The inner layers could still retain some of its hollow nature. It could mean that the moon is hollow by packs of circular solidification sheets. It would be interesting to examine these pits and see if this fits such a model.

    So it is made of bubble cheese. How does a pit break open when impact craters show no break through? Hmmm lots of titanium on moon surface. Moon is probably a lot like pumice stone structure lowering density and allowing orbit.

    The low gravity and the core is completely cooled down it’s like a sponge the surface is pulverized 1/56 the weight of the earth and 1/3 the size so it has to be unless you think it’s a old building or something

    Cool. Then we can build underground cities and run shuttles to each. No problem with the micro mediators.

    Perhaps an inflatable shelter placed inside a lava tube would make a good habitat.

    those pits couldn´t be habitable because the walls don´t seem to be safe: erosion, boulders collapsing or sand into the pits, so probably they are dangerous.
