It is always most interesting to listen to Major General Rupert Jones. He has such a realistic and level-headed perspective on the situation in Ukraine as well as, with respect to geopolitics, generally. What a pity you cannot have him as your Prime Minister. • @williamhenry8914
      @williamhenry8914 2 วันที่ผ่านมา +5

@Gotoooooo Slowest yes, patient no. It's slow because Russia fritters away its strength on incompetent gambles. The initial invasion was butchered on almost all axes and then routed. Then they assaulted Mariupol instead of bypassing it, then the same for Bakhmut sparking the drive on Moscow mutiny. They half-assedly tried to turn off the energy grid, resulting in the west providing modern air defense and their navy getting spanked. They changed commanders half a dozen times expecting immediate results. Now in desperation they've turn to DPRK and doing so has brought in SK, and they attacked Kharkiv again which unblocked US congress approval of 65bil aid package and permission to strike targets in Russia with western missiles. Thre are dozens more examples, these are just some highlights. They had every advantage initially. All they had to do was grind, but they want a quick war so they keep rushing in.

The Ruzzkies want a peace agreement, so I have one I bet my life Ukraine will accept. Pull out all military and stop their support of the Donetsk and Luhansk separatists. Btw, about the video, an unspecified amount of aid has already reached the battlefield BUT let's say it's 40%. Then by the time the rest trickles in, their new fighter jets will also be in the air AND they'll be getting money from Ruzzie's illegal funds (via interest) as well. Also, to the commander, a big part of why NATO exists was bc of the massive Soviet stockpiles; I'm sure he knows that but didn't mention it. The Ruzzkies have lost about 45-60% of their stockpiled important items, except nukes (which may very well not work). Lastly, the US spends 1.3T annually on defense and intel.

As a former naval officer of 30 odd years l keep an eye on developments in Ukraine with some insight. Jones' analysis is bloody superb and free from the armchair expert opinions that seem to push to the front of the queue these days. l will be keeping an eye out for him from now on. We need to get Ukraine to prevail for a whole lot of reasons that most don't seem to understand.

    • @kimbaldunsmore4633

@@frankstonrat This war, like all wars has forced the rapid development of technology by one side or both. ln particular as a set-piece action with conventional forces vs conventional forces that we haven't seen for a very long time. it really is a 'battle lab' in real time (horrible though that is for those involved). To me, Ukraine has been amazingly adept at battlefield manoeuvre, learning as they go and adapting existing and emerging technologies to their advantage.
'Drone boats' and other remotely operated vehicles are nothing new and have been part of most advanced nations military S&T/R&D efforts for some time, but are generally in my understanding not at the front of capital equipment acquisition. However the fact of the success of Ukraine without a navy to speak of achieving 'Sea Control' (a key element of western maritime doctrine) in the Black Sea with this technology alone is nothing short of astonishing and will be causing a massive rethink amongst all maritime powers. While there will be for the foreseeable a need for capital ships and their escorts in 'bluewater' operations, the success of the Ukrainians in the more littoral environment of the Black Sea, l am sure will have many military planners around the place on the scramble, because their adversaries are watching just as closely.
Sorry about the lengthy reply. Cheers

If people knew their history they would know that Ukraine was a sovereign state long before the rise of the Rus. But people don’t read history any more. History and Science are the most important areas for people to study. Science because we advance and create better societies through innovation and history because if we learn from the past we might find wisdom not to make the same mistakes over and over again.

Artillery shell numbers are not the be all and end all. The M777 Howitzer, as used by the Ukraine military, fires Excalibur shells that have a circular error probable of 5m at a range of 24Km. This means that most targets are destroyed in the first or second shot. Russian artillery is experiencing extensive barrel wear and the shells from North Korea are of indifferent quality. As a result, Russia fires hundreds of shells to achieve what Ukraine can achieve with two Excalibur shells. It will be a long time before the USA is involved in any kind of land battle in which Excalibur shells would have any meaningful effect, so the USA holding them back as an ‘insurance policy’ would be folly when Ukraine is already using them so effectively to degrade the capability of the USA’s greatest potential adversary.

The western strategy is simple: the longer the war lasts, the more Russia is worn down and hollowed out. This will leave them in a weaker position in the world afterwards. For example, Russia recently was forced to form a partnership with N Korea, trading ammunition for technical support and physical goods. This now has resulted in S Korea joining the fight in Ukraine as far as supplying arms. The net result is a weaker position.
Another example: a third of the Russian economy is fossil fuels. The war has caused the West to accelerate the transition to renewable energy and electric vehicles. So after the war they will lose a big part of their foreign income.

Russia is also forced into truly terrible deals with countries like China because of the now limited market for their oil and other resources.
That said, it is truly sad what Russia inflicts on Ukraine (and on itself!), and no matter what the west gains from Russia being declawed and economically wrecked for the foreseeable future, I'm sure most of us would gladly have traded it away if it meant getting Ukraine restored.

I really enjoy your interviews, thank you.
When you next speak to an expert, can you please ask how everything will change (if at all) if Trump gets elected?
    Thank you.

Or how "everything" will NOT change! Ukraine supporters constitute a veto-proof majority of both Houses of Congress. That won't change in November.
Also Trump doesn't like to identify with losers, and by the time of the next inauguration, ruzzia will look more and more like the loser in this illegal, genocidal war that it is.
Further, Pres. Trump has six months to get better educated about Ukraine. I have to hope that he will take the opportunity to do so.

Maj Gen Jones like many others is now dissmissing Russian escalation threat. He says Russia doesnt have red lines but qualifies it with 'never say never'. Strategic defeat of Russis is its red line. It could be a massive bluff but it seems we are now ready to support Ukraine enough to find out, from not losing to winning.

It's a quagmire on par with WWI, complete with trench warfare. It's a stalemate and it's going to stay like this until one side hits the limit and seems to implode all at once. Just keep in mind, this war is the Russians to lose and they're probably going to take the win at the cost of several generations of young men.

Where are these "quite big gains" exactly? The Russians have achieved pretty much nothing since the Kharkiv front opened. ln fact they're slowly losing ground there at the moment. Are they claiming otherwise on Russian TV? Is that before or after they celebrate the capture of the same tiny village for the fifth time?
