How to build Terrain Tiles for Quargaming!
A good and not so long video about modular terrain, finally. Don't know how much I've been waiting for this
That step before the Dryad Bark looked like a really solid martian rock
Simple and straight to the pont. Hell yeah
Great vid, as always 🔥
Thanks to Marshall and you 💪
Very fun and educational
btw, really nice 3d model of mascot
Historical quargames
I was actually just thinking about making a custom wargaming board this video is a perfect tutorial (:
Yes
Very nice and clean oldhammer palette
Really awesome tiles Marshall!!! 😊
Gotta say, I have been wanting to try something like this, and this looks more in my skill range than some other tutorials I have seen. 👀
So far, the only terrain tiles I have are some squares I cut out of a coir door mat to represent tall grass.
Thanks Marshall!
Makiny terrain is fun because throwing down random stuff actually works.
I discovered your channel recently and im hooked!
this is such a cool idea for modular terrain 😮
and using resin print waste is also a great idea
Cool vid. Great results. There are many games these techniques would work for.
thhnx marshal
I’d love to see some more terrain videos!
The Quars looks so interesting. If you or someone else are into OPR, what faction would you use them for?
OPR? Wassat
@@MishMashPainting Is Wassat a faction or dont you know OnePageRules?
@ oh I’m dumb, I’ve actually never seen the abbreviation for one page rules somehow. Uhhhhh I dunno da factions too well… so prolly rat men or dwarfs
I am going to quar myself
I think a video like this could be served by offering advice like NOT using expensive Citadel paints for terrain (and then cover most of it up with grass), and use all craft paints or on how to adapt existing paints into washes by mixing your own with inks, mediums, etc.
Probably, but it's just how I do the tiles. I bought a ton of the colors used on clearance for less than a dollar a pot. My advice is always to paint your board with the same colors you use when you paint your bases. I paint all of the dirt for two reasons. The first is that aside from a loose idea, I don't plan the tiles completely before making them. I don't know where I'll put the grass down until I actually do it. The other is that as the board gets used, flock will inevitably come off, and this leaves the dirt painted underneath.
Good live stream last night👍
Sweet modular boards. Very hard to do well I find
Dont you tempt me to start another project before I've finished the last one!
Any tips for someone without the proxon wire cutter? Whats the best way to cut out those 10x10’s?
What's the thick white stuff that gets smudged onto the board with gloves?
Sculptamold. It’s like plaster of paris mixed with blended newspaper
@@marshall341 did you mix it with water or glue at all?
@@thewastelander623 Yeah, you mix in water according to the instructions on the bag (or in my case, oatmeal consistency) and smear it on. When it dries overnight, give it a coat of modpodge mixed with paint to seal everything in. The paint in the modpodge is solely so you can see where you've painted because modpodge is clear.
Bro may I suggest doing 2x2ft rather than 10x10in. Fewer tile gaps and easier tessellations
Good point, I think you’d get maybe one and a half of those if you used them for Quar though. If I’m not mistaken, Quar games are on a 3ft x 3ft field.
@@hauntorthegiraffebiscuit ah that does pose a problem that some games like Relic blade and mordheim are 2x2/4x4 where games like quar and frostgrave prefer 3x3.
Most gamers would want a single board they can use for any skirmish game
I had planned for them to be 12”x12”, but the vendor shorted me and I had to cut them down to 10”X10.” I will eventually make 10”X20” and 20”X20” tiles as well
🔥👍❤️
Mish how did the terrain you licked in the thumbnail taste?
Lets gooo
While I love the modularity, I hate seam lines because it doesn't take long until you/your opponent knows distances just by eyeying (like bolt action where pre-meassure is not allowed) the board. Would love to see if you could hide the "tiles"!
Funny enough, this board is made for Quar where pre-measuring, re-measuring, and do-overs are welcome! You can hide the seams more by getting thicker flock and having it go over the sides
@@marshall341 Ah, well I guess BA has just ruined my fun hahaha! I've been eyeing out doing this or doing gym/yoga mats for seamless tiles - seeing as both are equally in/expensive where I live.
I'll write that down for when I start the project! Thanks!
Now, i wonder how to properly transport theses tiles.
Still figuring that out! These are for garagehammer and they’ll probably never leave my game room. I intentionally made the trees removable by snipping wire hanger so that the armatures can slip down into the foam, so if I had to move them, I’d pull the trees and bubble wrap the tiles in totes
I wanna ask a question unrelated to the video specifically but where do buy quar tanks? On the official website it only shows 1 type of tank please help
You can buy prints from ZombieSmith or you can buy the STLs from Joshua Qualtieri’s My Mini Factory to print your own
Hey mish being honest here I feel as if I’m not really doing the best in things I do really good in do you have any tips to get back on track?
Holy shit the Lego sound effect made me lose it lol.
The tiles look great! Do the join lines cause any issues in games though?
Nope! The mousepads keep the tiles from sliding around!
@@marshall341 nice! And the gaps between the tiles don't have any issues with mini bases standing on them?
@@willpenn966not that I’ve experienced! The way the flock is glued down makes it “grippy” like sandpaper

Sorry. The background noise/music is too distracting. I really was looking forward to seeing how you would do this. 😢
Algorithm
Board is kinda mid tbh 🥱
