    When it comes to pronunciations of foreign languages, I've always found it exceedingly helpful to watch native speakers' mouths as they speak. That is, the shape they take when speaking as well as lips and toungue as well. It was really helpful when i picked up spanish. Sounds like you have a wonderful resource in your father as well. That helps a lot!

    Good Job! Something that you could work on is the "r" sound in rot or grün. It's really difficult as a native english speaker but not Impossible to learn ☺️ i'm a speech therapist so If you'd like some ways to learn the "r" Sound I could tell you how i teach the children in speech therapy ☺️

    My Mother is from Berlin, high German. When I was small I could speak with her but they thought I would get confused when I started school. Translates to she didn't want to be bothered. I understand pretty much. I have had dreams where I spoke in German. Milk Coffee is what I grew up on. Cafe Au Lait in Louisiana, close. Apflekuchen is my most favorite cake. I love German cheesecake, they use ricotta. Soft boiled eggs , brot, and milk Kaffe for breakfast. I enjoyed this. Danke.

    It was really cool when you described the literal meaning of some words. Schildkröte literally means "Shield-toad" Also your pronounciation is really good, especially the "ch"!
    "o" sounds like the o in for
    "ö" sounds like the vowel in girl.
    For/Girl. I hope you can hear the difference and this was helpful for anyone trying to learn :)

    The "ö" in "Schildkröte" and "Löwe" and the "ü" in "Frühstück" is like the first second of the 'u" in: "murder".

    • @bucsredsoxredwings
      @bucsredsoxredwings 22 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Phonetics are tricky. As a German, I can understand that it´s close but it´s infact not. The "first second" of the "u" in murder is the "ir" sound.

    I can very much approve this German lesson. There is one thing though that you need to be careful with. When you have a noun in its plural form, the article is always „Die“. So when its used for plural it looses its gender and is used for everything. For example „the pets“ is „die Haustiere“ and „the pet“ is „das Haustier“

    You don't sound German, but from the looks of your folk's home ( sloping ceiling in some areas on the inside ) you live there or in a neighboring country. I was a U.S. Soldier at one time and lived there years ago. I was in the Nurnberg military community at a place called Herzo Artillery Base which is now gone. Torn down by the local government there in Herzogenaurach, Germany, which is in the state of Bavaria. I used to run downtown every other night with a friend named Richard who lived on my same base but was in a different unit. We met at the base gym and were friends from that point on. We were both in the U.S. Army, but Richard was bi-racial. His mother was German and his father was Black American. He was very fluent in German and French. He was born in Nurnberg City. He was serving very close to his home. During our night runs we would pass the Adidas and Puma factories which were on either side of the Aurach River. Both companies were owned by two brothers who had split their parent company into 2 separate companies. They both died in the 70's long before I had gotten there. I'd have to search the recesses of my parent's storage units at their home to find the bag ( hopefully, my mother hasn't thrown it away ) that I had when I lived there in Deucheland as it contains a piece of the Berlin Wall. I got to Germany a week after it came down and I have an actual piece of the wall. Pretty historic stuff at this point. The one place I didn't visit and I still may one day was the Neuschwanstein Castle which was about a 3-hr drive from my old base. Autobahn 7. I enjoyed my time there as I was able to travel a good bit. Spain, France, Greece and a few other places. I enjoy your vids. Keep up the good work!

    The difference between leben and wohnen is a bit tricky since leben literally means to live as in to exist in this world and wohnen means to reside (in a flat or something). In daily live whether we use leben oder wohnen depends on the context. For example "I live in germany": "Ich lebe in Deutschland". But "I live at/ I reside at 64 Rum Road": "Ich wohne in Rum Road 64".

    • @bucsredsoxredwings
      @bucsredsoxredwings 22 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Ikea used a phrase "Wohnst du noch oder lebst du schon?" for a simple reason. If you say "Ich lebe in der Rum Road 64" you also express that you enjoy life more while "Ich wohne ..." is more like "I live there, it´s OK, I am fine". It´s almost like "like and love", one is the comparative of the other.
      I usually say "Ich lebe in der Gartenstraße 14a"
