That last "F you" to the Charlotte fans by not drafting Scoot was wild. He's a horrible owner but is he as bad as Sarver was to my Phoenix Suns? Or Donald Sterling was to the Clippers? Eh BUT then again just imagine if Jordan had to deal with an owner like himself when he was drafted. Would he ask for a trade or just slug it out in Charlotte for 15 years?

As a NBA head from NC I’ve always passively rooted for the Hornets. During MJ’s tenure they had to All Star guards basically fall to them in Kemba and LaMelo. But other than that it’s been a whole lot of Ls. I don’t think he’s the worst owner ever but I do think he’s in the conversation. From a purely basketball decision making standpoint.
You should do a video on what happened to Ron Mercer 6th pick in the 1997 NBA draft selected by the Celtics and was great college player to be a journeyman in the NBA and retired by 28
Bill Russell did not fail as the Sonics head coach. In fact let's not forget how successful he was as the player-coach of the Celtics. For the Sonics though, he made the playoffs twice. It was after they drafted Jack Sikma and brought in Gus Williams that made the Sonics into a championship team. Not to take anything away from Lenny Wilkens but the newly added players had a lot to do with the success the Sonics had after Bill Russell was no longer coaching.
@@lexvaza It was before those guys came in when the Sonics became a playoff team under Bill Russell and after those guys came in and Bill Russell was out the door.
I think the reason for all the bad draft picks, it's because he's still thinks as a basketball player when dealing with NBA stuff, like he can't think past that he's the best and no one's better than him
There are far worse owners than Jordan. Has there been any dramas of him as an owner off the court? He just basically hired people that wouldn't have audacity to say 'No.'
So I'm a Cavs fan and remember the lockout-shortened 2011-2012 year. Cavs were in the absolute dumps, win % was terrible and on track to be the worse in the NBA that year. But the one silver lining was that the Bobcats ended up having an even worse record! Thank you, Charlotte, for your sacrifice. No one remembers just how BAD the Cavs were because of you! (Everyone knew/knows we were bad, but not the extent lol)
Is that the year we lost like 27 straight or whatever it was? Also I remember a meme when the spurs swept their first 2 playoff series and it said more wins 8 than bobcats had the entire year
Yes. Yes, he is. Some owners don't give a damn and just want to say they own a basketball team and their teams stay in mediocrity because nobody really cares. MJ, unfortunately, actually thought he was making good moves and put Charlotte perpetually in the lottery with his terrible picks, trades, and signings. It takes a whole other level to be that bad while actually trying to be decent.
Proof just because you are an all time great on the court doesn’t always mean you know exactly how to put the pieces together to build a winning franchise. You’d think he’d have an eye for talent though. I’d hate to be that guy but I believe Lebron will be a better GM but who knows 🤷🏽♂️
That's bad when Larry Brown says that about Jordan. He was a players coach. He has to tolerate personalities like Iverson wit "practice" and R. Wallace and S. Jackson and many others.
Man, so much pain. Not just the draft picks but all these dumb trades. You forgot this one: Emeka Okafor for Tyson Chandler (nice!), who was one year later traded for Erick Dampier, (who was waived) Matt Caroll and Eduardo Najera.... Letting Felton walk for nothing. For the draft picks, let's just pick the next player in each years draft and we get: Tyrus THomas (2006 draft was trash!), Joakim Noah, Brook Lopez, Tyler Hansborough, Jimmer Freddette (let's keep Kemba), Bradley Beal (iso MKG), Alex Len (2013 draft was trash!), Elfrid Payton (iso Vonleh),
I'm dead serious, there may have been some type of espionage because damn there were so many bad decisions at every turn. There's no way that you can make that many wrong decisions and stay bad for that long
I respectfully disagree, when super stars just want to jump around and form super teams in big markets how is he supposed to build a team? All the small market teams take decades to get competitive. Once u land a decent piece they want to leave to a big market to compete.
The irony being that the NBA has only made that situation worse over the years with more and more salary restriction rules that prevent players from getting the most they possibly could in a free market; they can't even maximize the "Bird exception" contract that kept players re-signing with their original teams for years, so yeah - they go to where they can get the most winning and superstardom because they are banned from getting the most money.
I’m not sure it was the intention… but I laughed so hard during the video, their draft and trade decisions are so terrible, how this man ever won six championships is a mystery
I think Charlotte is just a cursed market for the NBA. From George Shinn to Robert Johnson to Michael Jordan, it feels like this city will never have a good owner for their basketball team. The jury is still out on the current ownership but they'll need to do a lot of good to reverse that streak of bad to awful. As for bad owners in history, before Sterling, there was Ted Steipen almost single-handedly killing basketball in Cleveland with bad trades, dumb comments, and just putting out a godawful product on the court. The NBA had to create a new rule and hand out comp picks to the new ownership just so the Cavs would be watchable again.
One of the worst in modern times for sure. But I’d say Ted stepien probably Is one of if not THE worst of all time. There’s a reason why the stepien rule is a thing.

Stepian, Sterling and Dolan. Stepian & Sterling were so bad that the NBA had to step in, the NBA made the Stepian rule because of Stepian and the minimum cap because Sterling. As for Dolan he took a rich & popular big market franchise who was a constant contender in the 90's and made it into a the the league laughing stock and a punching bag. It's easy to fail as an expansion team in a small market the like Charlotte and thay didn't have a lottery luck, Jordan was pretty bad but far from the worst.
Funny how we believe someone who is brilliant in one thing will be brilliant in another. Magic, Vlade, Baylor, Thomas, Rambis just to name a few front office / coaches.
@@CrazyxEnigma You're absolutely right, it would be hard to judge. But the fact that he worked for Sterling for 22 years... have to take some of the blame. Poor Clips, hope they have better days ahead.

Nah MJ is far from the worst. Donald Sterling and Ted Stepien make him look like Joe Lacob lol. But let’s also not pretend that Jordan deserves sympathy for the 2012 draft. Even without AD, he could’ve had Damian Lillard but didn’t.
MJ is not the worst, but he’s one of the worst. I’d say Donald Sterling, Robert Sarver, or Ted Stepien are the worst. And since I’m a Cavs fan, I’d give the edge to Stepien. He was so bad that the NBA has a rule to prevent teams from disasters😅
I wish MJ should had learn a lesson or 2 to Pat Riley on how he'd managed the Miami Heat nicely and created a great culture on the organization. But now it's too late for that one and he'd already gonna sell his team to maybe Me. Beast? 🤔
No. In fact, it's crazy he gets blamed for many of Bob Johnson's failure (try getting uphill from that run. C-SET!). There's the Maloofs, Donald Sterling, etc. He hit on Kemba and Lamelo, both players that don't get nearly the appreciation they deserve. He really improved as owner in the mid 2010s and he deserves credit for that improvement. I'd say ownership of the original Hornets was in ways worse because that talent they had should have been together longer and made deeper runs but they were too damn cheap. And George Shinn had sexual assault allegations. However, for most of his tenure, that dog mentality he had as a player burned him plenty in those early years. The Bridges situation puts a black eye on that later draft success he had. I remember people being excited for Kai because of the athleticism but act like they always knew he wouldn't pan out (which is a terrible sports culture habit here). The Kentucky hype was real, too, and much of the excitement for his potential was shared back then but again, fans want to pretend like they weren't excited for him. As for Brandon Miller, I think fans project too much of their personal feelings about Jordan onto him and I hope he's successful and wins people over. He doesn't deserve that hate. The Charlotte sports scene in general is wishy-washy, so there's also that.
Funny enough, MJ said right after he bought the Hornets (then-Bobcats) that he will build a winner on his hometown team but unfortunately that's the one area he failed.

@@imfinishedgrinding638 Most of the Jordan haters probably hate Phil too, at least I'd assume so. Most of them are LeBron stans and Phil Jackson has insulted their favorite player several times.
Isn't it the reverse? They say that if Lebron had a legendary coach like Phil, he would have been able to win more? Like Lebron became a meme for forcing players in an out of the team because no one did it for him lol @@CrazyxEnigma
@@Kuroganemk2 idk maybe? I don't really see Phil brought up much unless it's discussing stuff directly related to him like the Bulls and Lakers teams he coached or greatest coaches of all time. I just remember people got really upset when Phil called the people around LeBron his posse and people cried racism when posse has no racial connotations that I know of.
Just because you a great basketball player. That doesn’t make you great in every aspect of basketball!
Clearly lol I’d be surprised if we ever see another NBA player turned owner ever again after Jordan’s trash ass lol
People should watch the documentary of Secret Base about this topic, "the men you pay to be in shorts" or something along those lines.
Also, congratulations on 500k subs :).
Fluffy croissant.
I need that on a t-shirt.
*It was before Sikma, Gus Williams and Dennis Johnson huge development.
@@lexvaza It was before those guys came in when the Sonics became a playoff team under Bill Russell and after those guys came in and Bill Russell was out the door.
Happy Birthday to me. Thanks Andy
Miller is in fact currently much better than Scoot.
Man he smacked a player upside the head on national TV. 😂
The line up with Steve Jackson and Wallace is 🔥 on paper.
Imagine tanking to get AD but drafted a bust instead at number 2
Barkley tried to tell him....
Donald Sterling … honorable mention Harold Katz
Krauss curse...thinking it was the player that assemble the team
Nobody's gonna miss the Jordan era of being an executive.. _very resentful._
Cavs owner stipen back in the day was awful as well. Traded ever draft pick, that's why they came up with the stipen rule
He's bad but not the worst. For me the worst owners are Donald Sterling of the Clippers and Ted Stepien of the Cavaliers.
Congrats on 500k subs
It’s between Donald Sterling and Ted Stephen
As good as he was as a player, that’s how bad he is of an owner
So I'm a Cavs fan and remember the lockout-shortened 2011-2012 year. Cavs were in the absolute dumps, win % was terrible and on track to be the worse in the NBA that year. But the one silver lining was that the Bobcats ended up having an even worse record! Thank you, Charlotte, for your sacrifice. No one remembers just how BAD the Cavs were because of you! (Everyone knew/knows we were bad, but not the extent lol)
Is that the year we lost like 27 straight or whatever it was? Also I remember a meme when the spurs swept their first 2 playoff series and it said more wins 8 than bobcats had the entire year
@@codyeble0713 lmao i'm pretty sure that's right. amazing.
Yes.
Nah can't knock him for that Morrison pick Andy I'm glad you chalked that one up 😅😅😅
The best players always make the worst owners
Elgin Baylor with the Clippers
Isiah Thomas with the Knicks
Wes Unseld with the Bullets/Wizards
Why it says say cheese with big smile on Kai Jones tweet
To me he's not even remotely worse than Donald Sterling. This dude literally refused to improve his team.
Imagine Kemba with AD...
It's too bad the NBA gave the 2012 #1 pick to the one team they owned at the time.
The Pelicans getting AD is the only reason the CP3 trade isn't looked at as highway robbery.
For the draft picks, let's just pick the next player in each years draft and we get: Tyrus THomas (2006 draft was trash!), Joakim Noah, Brook Lopez, Tyler Hansborough, Jimmer Freddette (let's keep Kemba), Bradley Beal (iso MKG), Alex Len (2013 draft was trash!), Elfrid Payton (iso Vonleh),
Brad millers was the right pick
A “fluffy croissant” lol
Morrison led the Lakers to 2 back to back titles
Never forget
One of the worst in modern times for sure. But I’d say Ted stepien probably Is one of if not THE worst of all time. There’s a reason why the stepien rule is a thing.
agree, lots of casuals in here crying donald sterling is a ray cissss as primary reason jfknc, there were a ton in the 80s who didn't care for their franchises but putting asses on the seats
@@wobbafett2464true lots of owners and players were awful for the league
@@wobbafett2464 Donald sterling as a Owner sucked regardless whether racist or not. But Stepien was worse team wise I’d say
@@JC4.72 never said sterling wasn't a terrible owner it's just his ray cisssm has transcended everything he did more grave stuff as an NBA team owner, the question wasn't terrible human beings it's who was the worst owner of all and teddy stepien smokes 'em all by a mile but people are just gonna built a tent on donny because he's recent and was blown up by social media
@@wobbafett2464 yea that’s true. Wasn’t saying u said that. But yea they were both bad team wise. But stepien yea was def worse. Would you say he’s worse than Jordan? I’d say for sure
"His unwavering love for tall big white men who become busts." 😂😂😂
Larry brown actually got the bobcats to the playoffs one year with captain Jack and Gerald wallace
Larry Brown and Charles Barkley have said the same thing about Jordan. There has to be some truth to it
His hiring of his brother being VP of Player Personnel is still baffling
Stepian, Sterling and Dolan.
Stepian & Sterling were so bad that the NBA had to step in, the NBA made the Stepian rule because of Stepian and the minimum cap because Sterling.
As for Dolan he took a rich & popular big market franchise who was a constant contender in the 90's and made it into a the the league laughing stock and a punching bag.
It's easy to fail as an expansion team in a small market the like Charlotte and thay didn't have a lottery luck, Jordan was pretty bad but far from the worst.
At least he's not that as bad as Stepien
Funny how we believe someone who is brilliant in one thing will be brilliant in another. Magic, Vlade, Baylor, Thomas, Rambis just to name a few front office / coaches.
It's difficult to judge Baylor given Sterling was his boss and meddled in decisions.
@@CrazyxEnigma You're absolutely right, it would be hard to judge. But the fact that he worked for Sterling for 22 years... have to take some of the blame. Poor Clips, hope they have better days ahead.
Short answer:
1) He reacquired the Hornets name
2) He didn't pluck away a franchise from a city like Clay Bennett did
3) He's not Donald Sterling
EDIT: 4) He's not James Dolan
So the answer is no, he's not the worst.
$3 Billion sound like a win to me
I won’t say he’s the worst because Donald Sterling existed, but he was terrible when it came to drafting players and hiring coaches and GM’s.
Y’all keep saying Sterling but Jordan achieved less in 17 years than Sterling did in any 17 year stretch of his 40 year tenure…yall just hate Sterling cause he said midget or migger or whatever he even said
Hey we all can agree that we did not think Adam Morrison would be that horrible 😂
Frank Kaminsky could have been solid but never given the real opportunity. His stats for 36 mpg, would have been 15 ppg 7 rpg.
Bro do you know what the term "hindsight" means?
Yeah he's up there with the worst owners of all time. Just further proves the point if you're really really good at a certain area, it doesn't mean you will be good at other areas.
The turning point was that 09-10
He should kept
Gerald Wallace Stephen jackson Tyson chandler this squad made the playoffs. Then eventually draft Kemba Walker. That squad was built to be a. Contender.
Dawg I ain’t even know Vince Carter played with d Howard on the magic
Nah MJ is far from the worst. Donald Sterling and Ted Stepien make him look like Joe Lacob lol.
But let’s also not pretend that Jordan deserves sympathy for the 2012 draft. Even without AD, he could’ve had Damian Lillard but didn’t.
The most interesting thing he did was trading with Golden State
James Dolan and Donald aterling say hello
His failures as an Owner/GM went way beyond his time in Charlotte, he was also as Trump would say the "huge brain" behind drafting Kwayme Brown.
I will always say...How do you watch MKG shoot a basketball and draft him?
stepien for me and it's not even close
This title is wild like Donald Sterling didn’t exist lol
Can you do one on the Bus family after Jerry Passed Away Jim and Jeanie
Jim Buss deserves the vast majority of the blame for how the franchise plummeted after his dad died.
Imo yes never focused on the team just his pockets 💯💪
Jordan is far from the worst owner, that fact is sad asf and gives you an idea of how low the bar is.
Trading a young prospect for a aging player who retired a year later is crazy 😂😂
Mj mess up again should never drafted miller over Henderson
I’m hoping that the new owners of the hornets just clean house and start over
