I just discovered your videos and am a two week total Gym owner and 69 years old. Thanks for short, concise videos that lack loud and annoying music backgrounds. I have seen other videos that are to verbose in discussion.. Just show me what to do, tell me what it works and go to the next exercise. Very nice work, I thank you.
People who say that it does not work are fickle who want to see results in 1 week, you have to be constant, change routines or be constant to them, put tension on the muscles, diet, combine with steps, bicycle, walk or others exercise machines or homemade things or running, dumbbells and everything that benefits. But using the machine without wanting to see fast results and do it every day, in 2-6 months you will see results. People want everything like microwave or magic style, everything fast without doing anything. Anything of exercise works if you are consistent. Nice video
Actually, for newbies, results can be seen within one to a few weeks. People don't need to do 2-6 months to see results. You can do some research on this. That is why newbies are extremely motivated to workout in the beginning because the result can be seen almost immediately. The longer you train, the harder it is a lot harder to see significant gain, and in order to achieve that gain, there needs to be progressive overload, which is the downfall of the Total Gym, especially for the older versions. That is why Total Gym creates that weight bar for people that want to take it to the next level.
I appreciate the pace of your workout. I'm just returning back to exercising, it discouraging to watch a video, where they are flying from one routine to another.
Thank you so much John Peel. These videos will help so much since i am a beginner. The thought of getting my body to look half as good as yours really encourages me. My total gym has been sitting idle for 3 months and now I am ready to use it.
It works better if you put your feet higher to where only your heels are on the platform. I can reach more depth without my knees going over. I’m 5’4 and can make it work barely. I feel the platform is too short and need to be extended. They have extended ones for way more money $$$. I do 55 reg squats and 55 piston squats on each leg at the highest elevation and I get a nice little burn. I’m still able to walk the next day. Definitely useful for a recovery workout.
I didn’t realize who you were at first. Your from I fit! I did your Lake Tahoe series :). Does this thing work as a leg press? How much resistance is there?
Thank you for your videos. They truly are helpful and you have a great demeanor. I was severely injured on the job 11 years ago and have been using the total gym fit for a few months now. I had neck, back rt shoulder/rotator cuff and rt bicep surgery. I recently used your shoulder and back videos, but I hit 8 on the rotator cuff and have to break for 10 secs and try again. I only make it to 8 each time. I set it on level 4 for that particular one, so is there a better way to do the rotator cuff or just keep pushing til I can get more reps in? Thank you again.
Linda, this is something you should talk with your doctor, or a physical therapist about. This is simply a TH-cam channel for Total Gym workouts and tips.
The whole for the weight bar is for people that want to use additional weight for progression. This video was done at least 6 years ago, most of the total gym does not have that option back then.
That's not a bad thing. You start with two legs on Total Gym, graduate to single leg, progress from there to doing full body weight without the Total Gym, then to weighed squats. The Total Gym isn't meant to be a leg press for elite athletes. But it's a great transition tool for people who are starting with a low strength to body weight ratio.
gotta say I think old school squats and lunges (back and front) are better. They give you work on balance which this can't do. Total gym is good for upper body but not lower, IMO
jib the world My question precisely! It seems to me that a 45° squat will never be as effective as 90° (standing). To your knowledge, is there a way to do hamstring curls and quad extensions on the total gym?
I know that you really cant go heavy on squats with the TG but there are other leg exercises you can do. I like the fact we can do hamstring and adductor /abductor exercises for a well rounded leg workout. The single leg squats are fun too!
heel lifting up of platform cause not enough space to do correctly......unless you want knee damage skip this. Cmon bud, you know this why show this exercise. If your knee ever goes past your toes in any squat position you are asking for trouble, basics
+TotalGymDirect If you load up a bar and do squats is it a good idea to lift your heels and squat by pushing through balls on feet? would you do a leg press that way? Do powerlifters on max lifts " drive" through the balls on their feet? I can see this platform is too small for a correct "safe" squat motion and needs to be further out but dont say that keeping the plane the same makes no difference...be honest.Just saving a few knee joints out there, just try it and anyone can.immediately feel pressure on the knee....i sure do.
+aaron maxim In theory, you are correct. But this is not powerlifting, or strongman, or crossfit--there is no extra weight added. In fact, the resistance weight is a percentage of the user bodyweight, so this principle doesn't really apply. This motion is similar to walking up stairs in terms of resistance, think of it that way.If powerlifting is your game, then you should train in a powerlifting gym with physical weights, and you can't triple white a Total Gym squat. The Total Gym is not meant to make you an elite powerlifter. It's meant to make life's physical obstacles easier to hurdle by training functional exercises and stretching.
+TotalGymDirect in a way yes, similar to stairs but stairs for a large portion you are using momentum to propel yourself up the stairs.. On a tg which i have and love your foot and ankle are fixed in same position. When i do squats on my tg i need to place my heels high with toes hanging off or you feel it ( and you cant say you dont, tell me you dont) in your knee. Also the taller you are makes a huge difference in that foot placement. Much more difficult if you're taller which video shows.

Thank you helpful easy to understand your my hero ☺️
Yo thanks i have been wondering how to do leg workouts on the total gym.
Do you have a hamstring workout for the TG.
I do the squats. As a personal trainer, I find that the knee goes a little too far forward over the foot. You have to be careful.
Thanks buddy
Ugh you helped so much I didn’t realize I doing some things wrong
Thank you very much for the video. This is exactly what I was looking for and won’t kill me as I’m doing it. Nice presentation
You have to get the longer squat pad for less.knee pain

Does this really work as well as gym leg equipment ?

👌
hello can you do the leg exercises even if you had a knee arthroscopey the articular cartilage shaved will it make it hurt any at all doing the squats

how long can I do this for?
What about the hole for the weight bar? You didn't demonstrate that for some reason.

leg strength would out grow the total gym capabilities quickly
I guess it's helpful for beginners
You could always add weights to it...
Wear weights on your legs / core

So... did you get your calves to look like that, using the Total Gym??
Is the TG leg press a bad exercise because of the limited range of motion, you can desend without your heals coming off the platform?
You don't want chicken legs... has chicken legs... Still better shape than 99% of us.
He clearly does not have chicken legs. You can see his hamstrings during his 1 leg squat. His built like ectomorph therefore making him super lean.
He is height/weight body proportionate. Those are not chicken legs.

@@MarshyScholar Yes on both hamstring curls and quad extensions.

Of course, you would need a higher incline, and you can add weight. th-cam.com/video/RoUp9bHrxhc/w-d-xo.html

+aaron maxim If the heel is lifting, the horizontal plane of the foot changes and the angle of the knee is lessened, not past the toes.
