  • There are two methods of programming CVs with your DCC system: mainline and on the programming track. It is NOT TRUE that mainline programming will re-program all decoders on the layout. It is also NOT TRUE that you cannot re-program a CV once you have programmed it. Watch this video with SoundTraxx product expert, George, to learn more!

George I think the misconception about programming on the main started when guys put several new engines out of the box on the mainline without changing the default address 3 first. Of course if then they went to program engine 3 all engine with the factory address of 3 will be reprogrammed. One "con" with programming on the main is that you can not read the CV values if you need to.

Again, good stuff. I’ve spent hours trying to adjust and change cv’s. It’s fun but sometimes frustrating. But as you say, make a mistake or the result is not what you expected, adjust it or start over. Your manuals are great and help make the process manageable. Thanks for your continued updates. 🚂

Some more good tips George! I have always used the main for programming , and sometimes adjust motor settings of a loco in a consist if ti is not behaving !! I do have a issue with Tsunami 2.1 while setting my speed curve with JMRI, as soon as I enter a value in the speed table, I loose my headlight function??
Have you heard of this ? It is a older version of JMRI (2yrs old) and it may be fixed on a update? I have had to remap the headlight to FX 4 so I can have it working. Is it worth calling you guys to discuss it?
    Cheers Gregg.

@@goaliegeorge Thanks George! I use a NCE system and CV 29 is 50, and I plot a new speed curve as the loaded speed tables are no longer used??. I only have this issue with the T2.1, the original Tsunami 2 isn't a issue . I have reset the decoders several times and get the headlight function back. I'm guessing maybe a bug in the old version of JMRI? I will shoot you an email when I get a chance, busy working on prototype signal systems at the moment:-)
      Cheers Gregg.

Great video. But I have question. If I set my locomotive to a long address, is it necessary to manually set CV29 to support the long address or is it changed automatically?

If you are using the command station's address prompts, it automatically configures CVs 17, 18, and 29 for the long address. If you need more assistance please contact our Customer Support Department: soundtraxx.com/contact/technical-support

Excellent information. The problem that JMRI has is the differences between the various brands of decoder. Some decorder manufacturers are more open in CV used than others. It is the lack of information on

My mistake. Hit the wrong key. It is the lack of information due to properietary use of hidden configuration variables.

@@justgregm7843 Yes, we think JMRI is a great tool. But if you are having a problem with our decoder it is always best to go back to our manual and see how we tell you to set the CV.
