It can make lots of sense at times but not all the time, I was born in a pretty wealthy family and I always had nice clothes and other stuff that would make me look pretty, even though of this my family kind of went bankrupt so i am average now but i am still pretty ,so it make sense at times but it really depends on if your broke broke or just kind of broke

my family is middle class but they send me to a pretty expensive private school (and in doing so spend a lot of their money on sending me to said school so i can get a good education) but most of the people there are extremely wealthy and always look flawless- and i always come to find out they don’t have a summer job, they buy designer clothes every month, get their nails done every other week, they have a dermatologist, a nutritionist, a personal trainer, etc. like no wonder you have perfect skin and clothes and hair

That really puts it into perspective! Like unless I had an issue that was causing me pain/discomfort and my GP can’t treat it I’ll probably never go to a dermatologist. Like I love skincare so it would be a dream but there’s no way I could justify spending the money for it!! Let alone all the rest of that. If I have extra I’d rather do something fun with my friends or donate it to someone who actually needs it

I think many beauty standards are not just based on the amount of products and services you can buy to alter your appearance, but also the amount of free time you have.
Having extra weight was considered beautiful in Europe when the people who fell into that category were mostly rich. Pale was the standard when the rich forced others to work outside and the poor couldn't avoid being tanner.
Now it has essentially flipped. The abundance of food means more people can put on extra weight, not to mention the abundance of junk food. More people work sedentary jobs. So having the time to work out and tan is a luxury.
(To anyone who wants to say it isn't because you personally make time for working out and whatever.....it is a luxury and congrats you aren't the poorest of the poor. You aren't the working poor. So you have time to workout and money to buy decent food to build the body you want.)
Anyways, it is all pretty sinister. Beauty is very tied to what the wealthy can afford to buy, the activities they can afford to avoid, and the time granted to them to do things that would make them look better.
And that's all before the money they can spend on surgeries or whatever else.

Yes!! And it’s not just having no time to workout but when you’re poor you’re more likely to be living in a neighborhood that is less safe, making it harder for people to just go on walks or a jog like a lot of people will suggest. There are so many socioeconomic factors that make it much easier for wealthy people to attain beauty. But it’s not just a beauty related problem it’s a serious public health issue - obesity, diabetes, heart conditions, are all more prevalent amongst lower income communities because they don’t have the time, energy, or resources to maintain their health - ok I could go on but I won’t, cause it will turn into an essay

Be gentle and kind with yourself! The best thing I’ve found is to just think of it as moving and find a way to move around that’s fun. Or multiple ways because it’s nice to have options :) that way I don’t get obsessive or start creating standards for myself. I’m a perfectionist so I need to just calm down and have fun with things like this! That’s all most people need for long term health anyway

Patience is the 1st key, self-love is the 2nd key, Consistency is 3rd key. Don't focus too much on it, go with the flow, follow some rules (mainly on proportions of your food intake, not what kind food you can eat or not), exercise a bit daily ! You're already on track, be proud for taking that first step ! And don't frustrate yourself, it makes everything worse !!

Hey, congratulations on choosing to be a healthier version of yourself! I've also gone on a weight loss and acne clear-up journey. I was overweight close to obese when I was 13 due to excessive intake of food (my mom just loved me a bit too much lol). I went from 65kg to 49kg through the years, and it took me a year or more to clear-up.
What I found helpful was definitely how I eat.
-I was a student I do not move much in class so I'll eat less high calorie foods. Your calorie intake should match your physical activities in a day.
The best combination I found if you cannot make fancy foods is just a quarter of rice, half of vegetables and quarter of meat on a plate. I've been doing this diet for years and I kept losing weight naturally! Of course, avoid supper and only eat 3 times a day.
Starving yourself will only result in rubber-effect weight loss (aka gain back weight easily).
Exercising definitely helps so keep up with that! 🤩
It's a long journey, but it trains our patience! Try only recording your circumference of your body once a week instead of just the scale, look at your body! I've been on 49kg for a while and it stopped dropping but my muscles are more intact and slim, my friends even got shocked that I look slimmer than before even though my weight didn't change.
For acne, it's best to appoint a dermatologist, but if you're like me who can't afford one, you can download an app called "Picky", the app will match the best products according to your skin type and there are genuine reviews from other people who are like us.
Sleeping early definitely helps too. I've found that my acne cleared faster when I slept early during the holidays. So I'm trying to continue it right now!
All the best to you! You can do this!

for weight loss, have you looked into CICO? (calories in calories out). it helps a lot, i lost 30 kg in a year (from 84kg to 55kg, regained 2kg when i was 70kg and lost it again). i also lost 15kg without ever exercising, i just cut down my portions in half and watched what i was eating (i did CICO for the second 15kg and started walking 10k steps a day. i never once went gym lol). it's important to eat regularly imo (intermittent fasting can work for you if you know what you're doing, otherwise id stick to just having 3 meals a day regularly, snacking in between if you need to). plus it's important not to cut out foods you love - the entire time i lost 30kg i never once completely cut out chocolate and candy, i simply lessened my portions (e.g. 1 chocolate block instead of the whole pack). now i don't really eat them anymore bc i naturally lost interest in them, but if you try to quit sugar cold turkey you're going to fail - let yourself eat them and don't guilt yourself about it, just enjoy it. follow serving suggestions for portion sizes and incorporate more fruit and vegetables into your meals. good luck!!!
as for acne, i also struggle with it ngl even though i eat very clean now, but i notice my acne will flare a day or two before my period, so in my case i believe it's hormonal bc my skin goes clear once my period is done LOL. at the same time, if you're young, i wouldn't stress about it now, it naturally starts going away after you hit 18/19

  • @yessica5231
    @yessica5231 2 ปีที่แล้ว +134

I do agree with the title. aside from beauty being subjective, money can literally buy anything. as a poor college student (tm), I can guarantee the quality of sleep and stress will play a role on how you dress and other things like under eye bags and dark circles. a rich person probably only stresses over which purse to match to which car. If you don't like your teef, get braces. if you don't like your nose, get a nose job. poor people can't easily access these things. I'll even go as far to say that skinny/fit people also have better access to quality foods and personal trainers.
anyways, stan the traffic noise in every Zoe video lol!

    • @insafalaoui3750
      @insafalaoui3750 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

Yeah you're right but there's something I don't agree with, not all rich people care about which purse to match their car, those people are spoiled sons and daughters who didn't work hard to earn their money, BCS someone who worked so hard to gain money won't be spending money on stupid things.
And these days, i see a lot of poor people who can't even afford to buy a small car or buy a house having the latest iphone, and spending money on stupid things.
      Thx.

The whole mentality behind plastic surgery needs to go.
People will hate on you if you're ugly, they'll hate on you if you get plastic surgery to fix that and they'll hate on you if you keep your plastic surgery secret coz you don't wanna be hated on.
It's a vicious circle and we all need to come together to change that mentality.
There's nothing wrong with getting plastic surgery (if that's what you wanna do, do that but do proper research first) but there is something wrong with denying it and passing it off as natural as it enforces unrealistic beauty standards. HOWEVER, us as onlookers shouldn't judge those who get plastic surgery and hate on them for doing what they want with their body, they were honest and shouldn't be shamed for that and called fake.
We all need to be more accepting of those who get plastic surgery and less hateful, maybe then people won't try to pass if off as natural.

the worst thing that frightens me about plastic surgery is how it’s gonna look like when you’re 60, 70 or even 80 rather than 20 or 30. i rather love myself for myself than reduce myself to fit into a norm that changes all the time. love yourself because people are plain rude and jealous of others because they can’t learn to love themselves. sounds repetitive but true. peace ✌️

    • @jayliezambella

Well, overall depending on wat u get done it won't really matter. Most facial changes r at 3 levels injection or shaving bone or cartilage and fat injection. When it comes to injections it's not permanent u have to go back in every now and to keep it. Fat injections is just moving ur fat from 1 spot to another. So, basically that can fluctuate throughout life, BBLs r typically fat injections. For bone shaving and cartilage it will be more permanent, but it will change as the fat and skin on ur face changes. So, overall it won't be a big deal. The problems that occur r typically the 1s that do dramatic changes to their bodies. Going from an a to D cup depending on muscle and fat tissue and look bad, bc it won't fit the natural muscle and fat tissue u have so the implant will be more noticeable. Making ur nose super thin, doing lips that don't fit the border of ur lips. Basically it's making sure u don't go beyond ur bodies limits ull be fine. Not disagreeing with the rest, but overall the changes that u get when ur 20 or 30 won't be as big of a deal if u don't do over the top stuff.

I disagree, we just have a perception that we have to look “naturally fixed” but in my opinion true RAW natural looks almost always looks more beautiful. It’s the down to earth, I don’t have to fixate on my looks and “I’m just happy living life” that vibrates out of those people that makes them beautiful because that in itself is a form of makeup. I believe also that by being on a lot of platforms, looking at girls like this that might be how you feel however, that’s why not spending to much time on social media and instead just go outside (which almost sound cliché by this point lol).

Quoting here a very wise person, whose opinion I value so much "Well it does stand to reason that poor people don't have the time and resources to do some of the things which rich people can do to "improve" their appearance. Not every body can afford moisturiser ( and some can't even spell it) let alone paying hundreds of pounds for products. But looks have always been a very superficial way to judge people. Being beautiful on the outside says nothing at all about the you on the inside and how much that is worth. And inner beauty will last a lot longer than outer even if the latter is helped by surgery and expensive cosmetics. Being beautiful may mean it's nice to look at you but that won't work for long if you can't string two sentences together or have a horrible character."

One thing that always annoyed me is celebs/influencers that say "oh, i do nothing special with my skin, just these products" and then you see them on their stories getting facials regulary. Also as a lucky naturally beautiful girl , I can say it does take work and money , going to the gym, skincare , haircare, the quality of your clothes and how you style them plays a big role in the naturally beautiful image. Over all to be fair, I think that the natural beauty look takes a lot more over all work than when you can see that person put effort . Also yes, usually being cultured and maybe good at some sport, plays a role in being seen as a cool naturally beautiful person, but that also takes money and even if you let's say take the books from online for free, takes time, museums cost money, gym and other sports lessons cost money. I am privileged enough to have the time and money to buy and do those things, but someone who works 8h/10h/12h a day and then has to cook, clean, relax a bit , sits further and further from what society considers to be perfect and easy to achive

It’s just amazing how you take any subject and you treat them seriously and truly with the good words. I’m very impressed !
I’m agree, we just don’t have what all these people have which is money. With money, you can buy the best products for your skin, hair etc or have a plastic surgery. That’s don’t mean that you’re ugly, just that you don’t have the same amount of money as people you see on tik tok or Instagram.
Plus, the society accentuate this feeling but we don’t have to feel like that. We don’t have to be depressed or anxious just because we see other girls have this or that things. We are all beautiful the way we are !
Sorry if it’s too long😭😭but I really enjoy these types of subjects.

I think the problem also relates to the categorisation of features that make the incalculable concept of beauty attainable. All the beautiful faces and bodies seen on social media are usually construed into features - a small nose, almond shaped eyes, high cheekbones. However, one girl's harmony of her features is not necessarily defined by all these categories being present or absent. It is heartbreaking seeing people, especially girls, aspire to a "collection of features" that does not fit their unique facial structure

Your videos are always a reality check for me and give food for thoughts, not just pleasing to watch (but they ARE really well made, always).
Personally, while I was very open to plastic surgery, I tend to dislike the "concept" more now. I would never ban plastic surgery since some people truly dislike features on themselves no matter how much they try to overcome their insecurities and everyone (or those with money..) should have the option to change it. Some people want to change traumas after, for example, getting in an accident or even have physical features after getting physically abused they do not want to be reminded of or being characterized by it.
However, as you said in this video or others, bodies and body types keep on becoming "trendy". In oder to take part in these "trends", people change themselves. When the trend is over and your body does not "fit in" in the new, consistently changing standard, you might regret it after finding out that you did not do it for yourself after all.
Now while writing this comment, maybe plastic surgery itself is not the problem but the mindset and the advertisement on social media.
One thing though: I found that the music and sound effects were a bit loud compared to your talking. While I was still able to understand you, it could be troubling for others. Maybe it's just me.

Just something to think about if you’re looking in the mirror talking down to yourself… My kidneys failed at 26, I have had 2 transplants since then… Now 33… My hair has just started to grow back, but I am very skinny because of my health. And I am just hoping to get to a place where I look healthy… Even healthy looking like shit at the gym. My idea of beauty went out the window when there wasnt anything to help me pee/make my hair grow back. I really think beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but there is a certain amount of health that plays into that. My self esteem dropped when hair fell out in chunks, or when I had to wear masks to go to dialysis and had such bad mask acne. If you’re really blessed to even have the health to then make yourself you’re lucky. I am not saying everyone needs to walk in my shoes, but no amount of money could have helped the way I felt when my body was struggling. This also with Covid, I lived in pajamas as well. I have a whole new wardrobe and want to look pretty for the first time in years. But I used to just want to wake up and look healthy without any make up, ect.

I really you Zoe because you are telling the truth of false beauty . U really open my eyes . Some of them maybe really beautiful but not all of them . By this thing you really breaking the fake fantasy and expectations of people who only think that outside beauty is important than inner once. Thank you so much Zoe for making these kind of videos 💓 . I really appreciate you 😊

That’s such a true statement. I’d say beauty is also a measure of happiness as well though, I think you find more things beautiful, the happier you are. And happiness can come from anywhere, in any form. Sometimes its hard to see the beauty in yourself if you’re in a sad\bad place. I feel like “beauty” and “beautiful people” are always happy so, if you become like them, you’ll be happy? But really it’s if you are happy within yourself, you are beautiful. Beauty doesn’t “make you happy”.
