Thank you for your patriotism. Both sides of my family have been in this country since the mid- 1600's. Unless we're Native Americans, we ALL came to this country from someplace else. The American flag is a symbol of our nation, it's not a symbol of a political party. We are each tasked to think globally and to act locally. We The People make this a great nation.

I was a 3rd grader living in FL during the Bay of Pigs. All the students were told to bring a pillow case with filled a bath towel and canned food to feed a child for 5 days. We had drills throwing the pillow cases over our shoulders & marching 3 blocks to a train track where we practiced hopping into freight cars to be evacuated if a conflict began. My mother was appalled. She loaded me & my brother into the car and drove us to TN to where she hoped we’d be safe. My dad was in the Army serving in Korea at the time. I remember everything you described, the fear & concern. And like you, my allegiance is to this country not the politicians. I believe we can do better as a nation than we have been recently but we will always have strife in this world because of the never ending supply of bullies whether they be Hitler, Stalin, Attila the Hun or sometimes our own leaders.

Born in ‘52 and remembering the events impacting the nation during the first couple decades of my life brings back the uneasiness, fear, and also joy (from family times). Thank you for the reminder of where the USA was and where it is now. We have a lot to be thankful for in spite of the current problems and I can’t think of any other country I want to live in. I hope you have a safe and happy Independence Day!

Oh my goodness, how wonderful this video is. You expressed everything I too went through and a little more. I'm a little older than you, and I too LOVE this country and will die for it. Thank you for sharing. I proudly sing as many patriotic songs as possible and I'm proud of my church that sings the songs with pride and enthusiasm. Again, thank you so much for this video. God bless you.
I'M PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN AND I WILL NEVER FORGET THOSE THAT SERVED AND STILL SERVE IN THE ARMED FORCES TO MAINTAIN OUR FREEDOM.

I was born in 1949 and listening to you it was just about all my thoughts. I feel so blessed that I was born in this country. Fourth of July has always been an important day in my family. My great uncles and my dad were military and served during wars and conflicts, we were very patriotic. We would spend it in Bristol, RI at my great aunts house, such wonderful memories. Reminisced about past celebrations with my relatives yesterday and talked of how things are scary right now, hopefully we can get through them as we have before. But as you said there’s almost always been something going on. I love our country and our flag and what it stands for. God bless America❤️🇺🇸🇺🇸

Thank you Margaret. I grew up in the 60's but I was raised with the honor that my Uncles and great Uncles were in the World War I and II , My cousin's and my dad were in the Korean War. Some of them were in the draft for the Vietnam War. Than my brother was in Desert Storm . Though out life there was always the respect .But I do remember how they treat the ones from Vietnam I was little and could not under stand why. But my mom and dad shows me what it was to be patriotic. I honor them for what they have given us and what it has cost them. I believe in our country I will stand up for it any day and back it if I have to . The people is what makes the country and they have to stand together.Thank you again Margaret have Great 4th of July !!

I was born the same year as you, Margaret, and have many of the same memories of history unfolding during my younger years. My dad was a 10-yr. Navy veteran who survived the biggest naval battle in our history at Leyte Gulf. He was only 17. The attack on Pearl Harbor inspired many men to enlist, and Dad was one of them and he lied about his age though at that point, they were accepting everybody who wanted to join up, regardless of age. Dad earned an array of medals during his time in the Navy and his ship was chosen for the honor of escorting the Mighty Mo into Tokyo Bay for the signing of the peace treaty. He finally told me his war stories during the three years before he passed and my goodness, he saw a lot of horrors at such a young age. My grandfather was a veteran of WWI and WWII fighting as a soldier in Europe. After the war, Dad was a firefighter, his dad was a policeman, and my other grandfather worked for the State of Ohio and so did my great-grandfather. All public servants. Patriotism is part of the fabric of my family. I wanted to join the Marines after graduation but the backlash I got from both mom and dad made me decide against it in the end. Mom said she'd disown me and I could never come home again if I joined. So I was convinced not to enlist, a decision I still regret. I love this country and will always honor my family's sacrifices to keep America a free nation. They fought against communism and dictatorship because they wanted our country to remain free of oppression, military rule, and evil leaders. I will always defend the USA because of what the men in my family had to endure to fight for our freedom. We live in a great country already and we lead the world as a global power and leader. We have much to be proud of and grateful for. I worry my military relatives may have fought for nothing though and I won't get into that except to say if we do not hold onto our democracy tight, all veterans throughout history will have fought for nothing. I hope and pray we don't unravel everything they fought to keep. We have much to celebrate today. We live in the great and powerful United States of America! Happy Independence Day!

So many of the things you talked about are sharply ingrained in my memory as well. I was born in 1955 and my dad was in the Air Force. We lived on a big training base in Illinois when I was 5 until age 12. I can remember when taps was played over speakers every evening on base, and if you were close to the HQ during that time, your dad pulled the car over, yiu got out and turned toward the flag with your hand over yiur heart. I still to this day get goose bumps when the national anthem is played at sports events and gatherings. Thank you for speaking of the current situation in a non inflammatory manner, that can be very difficult to do these days with access to so much information... Praying for a course correction in the future for the benifit of my 8 grandkids, and the whole world really. Love your channel Margaret ❤️

Our General Election here today Margaret, a big day. When I vote, I don’t just vote for what is good for me I vote for a bright future for all my fellow citizens however they vote. Might not be in my lifetime but I just hope for peace and love and joy for all. It might be a pipe dream but it’s a dream I keep in my mind when I go into the ballot box. Like the USA we have our faults but on the whole we are good people. Happy 4th July and God Bless America and find it in your heart to hold enough back to bless my Island home of Great Britain as you say we are all in it together.🙏❤️😻🇬🇧🇺🇸

Hi Margaret….what a beautiful and emotional video. I stand with you 🇺🇸. My father was drafted in World War 2 when I was a baby. With parents that had already survived a depression, times were very hard for them. I remember how we as children were so proud to be an AMERICAN, and still am, but I find that a lot of the younger generation are not quite as patriotic . We are lucky to have a voice. VOTE, you can make a difference . I will be there on day one 🇺🇸❤️🇺🇸❤️🇺🇸❤️

    Hi Margaret,
I was 11 when Kennedy was killed. I was in 6th grade when that happened. I went to Catholic school until I was in 9th grade. My teacher at the time told our class that we Americans did not need to worry about the Russians, we needed to worry about the Chinese. Boy, she was a “prophet”. I think nowadays that the Chinese own a bunch of this country. I also think that the U S is DEEPLY. In debt to many countries- including China! Happy 4th and I too love the U. S. Elizabeth in Texas

Happy Independence Day, Margaret. I was born in 1953. As a mature woman, with all those years behind me, I can say I am terrified that the US is crumbling, and we are one election from saving it. Or not.
I am also Jewish, so I have concerns you can’t imagine. I have small grandchildren. I worry daily about their future here in the US with all the open antisemitism, much of it brought about by Marxist teachings in the public schools for the past few decades. Some by immigration from countries that, well, you know what I want to say. Look what is happening in universities. Where will my grandchildren be able to go to college? Is there even a future for Jews in the US? I am an American. My family lost two young men, my uncles, during the war. If Israel no longer exists, where can we go? Europe is gone. Jews are being targeted in countries where they used to feel safe, and have been part of the fabric of the country.
I am pessimistic these days. More and more so. Almost 200 Jewish graves were vandalized in Ohio recently. I even worry about what my plans should be so I am not a victim of that in some far off future. This is a wonderful country, but we are ruining it.
I, too, live in Massachusetts. Our leaders, so called, have ruined this state, too.

Thank you for sharing. We baby boomers have lived in a golden era, even with the tragedies along the way. The world is not as safe as it was when I was young. It is time for us to wake up and not be afraid to take a stand for love of country and the freedom that has been afforded us by the men and women who fought for that freedom. There is hope for the next generation (your "Squish" and my grands too) if we abide by: "...if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land." 1 Chronicles 7:14

I am a little older than you but our memories are the same. My family, too, came from Germany. My grandpa fought in ww1 and he was so afraid he was fighting/killing his own relatives. It haunted him till his dying day. I also respect and honor our big, beautiful country. I am also in agreement that the people that are running our country are not so deserving of that same respect. I’m big on everyone being able to have their own opinions but I do wish people could share them, discuss them and come to conclusions for the good of our country and not just themselves. We need to respect ourselves as Americans and say this has to stop and stop, now!

My first husband was on a ship during the Bay of Pigs! He told me stories of all the young men crying including himself because they thought
they were going to die! 😢. Happy Independence Day, Margaret! 🇺🇸
