Can yiur mom get ahold of them an tell them about Emory hospital here in Atl GA. They are an amazing hospitsl that does alot of research. The moms laugh was so contagious. You can tell how much they love each h other and haven't let their babies sickness tske away from the joy and making sure he has the best life. I wish they had their own little channel to teach ppl about things. They would be amazing for them and would open alot of doors for them as well. Blessings to your momma and to this family as well. I use to be a nurse till I got very sick and can't do it anymore. It sucks. But it really takes ppl with big hearts to do that job.

@joholly1951 His machines help him to be comfortable. He would choke, struggle to breathe, feel hunger pain, and die a horrible death without them. None of us would want to be denied help if we were choking, struggling to breathe, or starving.
He is God’s child and we are blessed to have the privilege to care for him. There have been at least two times over the years when he’s come very near to death when he was in the hospital. Each time we “gave him to God”, we encountered Divine intervention that spared his life. While we may not yet understand, we believe God has a purpose in him being here. Until God chooses to take him home, we will do our best to selflessly care for him.

I just read your comment and I’m so baffled by your wife’s particular form of AD, I was a care giver for two wonderful women, Joanne* was a high level executive with the Army corps. of Engineers, and Jewels* was a systems analyst for Lockheed Martin. Both were 57 years old, and both found out something was a miss when they were approached by their H.R. department. Joanne has a very loving husband, when I cared for her, it was to give him some down time, she was then 77 years old, and he was 85. I literally thought he was in his 60’s, and he had an amazing attitude. She developed Sundowners and he would be mentally exhausted by 5:00pm, so I’d arrive at 4:00, and they lived in a senior apartment that had breakfast, lunch, and dinner, so I’d join them to assist with keeping her engaged with eating, and he could socialize some.
She was on the decline and would ask the same questions over and over every few minutes, sometimes I could sense his frustration, but he really did try to stay positive. Some things we figured out together were answering questions in a different way, she’d ask, “where are the boys?” Who were both in their mid 40’s, but as the evening approached she’d forget that Ted was her husband, and believed he was her father. She also would think she was younger and younger as the night unfolded, believing she was a teenager. So for the question about the boys, we’d say they were at school, since both attended college, that’s what tracked for her. When she would get upset, not recognizing their apartment was her home, she’d say “I want to go home” meaning her mommas house, or she’d ask to go to her sisters. Sadly they’d both been gone for many years, so the answer was, “we can’t go to moms, she’s with Sissy” and gratefully that satisfied her. In truth they really were together buried at the same cemetery.
But she’d often cry wanting that feeling of home. The reason I tell you all of this, is life becomes a bit of a dance, and you have to flow with it. There’s an amazing channel here on TH-cam called Dementia Careblazers, and I don’t know where I’d be as a carer without it. I’ve learned so many techniques not only in caring for my clients, but also helping the loved ones care for themselves as well as myself. My other patient Jewels was aware that she had Alzheimer’s, and we had a lot of fun together, she had excellent care, and her young adult children were her caregivers. They both were in their 20’s.
They did so much research and learned about various vitamins and supplements, which I honestly believe aided with the preservation of her memories.
We lost both of these amazing women, Joanne lost her battle at 79 years old, and Jewels actually passed from cancer.
I hope you check out dementia care blazers and look into vitamins and supplements, also, this is so important, cutting sugar and carbohydrates can make an amazing impact on brain health, I’ve heard Alzheimer’s referred to as Type 3 diabetes. Our brains are made of fat, and do so well with the ketogenic diet. Also, Cholesterol drugs such as statins are (in my opinion) the reason we are seeing a rise in dementia related illnesses. Please research that, along with any hormone replacement therapy drugs. I was shocked to see a black box warning on the ones I was prescribed that paraphrased said “this medication has been indicated in the onset of dementia” something to that effect. It was on the giant paper that’s folded 16 times and shoved in the box. Hope some of this information will help you, and I’m sorry this was so long. I am sending up a prayer for you and your wife, God bless.

@@valerief1231 Thank you so much for sharing your experiences and the TH-cam group, I was not aware of them.
In doing the very deep dive on my brides condition, I've traced it back to a convergence of causes.
She developed celiac disease shortly after her very traumatic divorce in her early 40's which coincided with every adult female (mother & sisters) in her family developing breast cancer in the same year. Only 1 sister survived and my bride never had cancer. (she made them test her several times).
In 2020 after a very "strange" few months of behavior, she was finally diagnosed with AD. I'm a huge proponent of reading ones genetic makeup and the gene testing I had done on her in 2021 showed, 1 APOE4 gene, and a host of other genetic predispositions including Luey Body, Insomnia, and a high sensitivity to Propofol, which is used in all kinds of surgery. Anicdotally, after two of her surgeries there was a noticeable decline in her cognitive abilities. I alerted her medical team on the Propofol sensitivity once I found out and for her lastl surgery they used a completely different sedative technique which had no ill effects.
That being said, she's also had 3 MRI's. 1 in 2011, 2 years before we met, 1 in 2018 and 1 in 2020. The nurilogist who reviewed the last one also reviewed the other two. The previous "Dr's" totally missed "open and obvious" lesions in both temporal lobes and the periatial lobe. Had we know then, we would be in a very different position now.
Once I know what we were dealing with, I dug into the research, found Dale Bredesen and started her on the Bredesen Protocol which is a modified Keto diet augmented with a number of supplements, exercises and super clean food choices.
Cronologicly she is 62, biologically she is 49 but she still has the Brain of an 85 year old. While there are improvements in some area's there are declines in others. We were talking tiny homes and travel before she became so obviously sick and AD will keep you home and hidden if you let. That's why we are building a bus. Thanks again for the TH-cam group info and thank you for choosing to be a caregiver, it's the front line to a world most people truly don't understand until it is thrust upon them.

Okay so this build is live changing. I guess that’s obvious to many, but hits home for me in a different way. I live with a disability as well and spend the majority of my time in bed (getting in my wheelchair 0-3 times a week depending on how my body is doing). I can emphasise with Caleb and his family from lived experience. Being able to leave the house and explore is such a huge thing for mental health and quality of live! And together with his parents you thought of everything (even to secure him during transit). The stretcher has the potential to let Caleb and his family explore outside of the van as well.
I’ve honestly never seen a camper or van that was made for someone who needs so much assistance in care and you did outstanding work!
If you feel like you can keep doing builds for disabled people - please do. There’s many more folks out there who have high care needs that are not regarded by the vast majority of adaptive campers but would love the ability to travel like this and you two seem to have not only the know how but the empathy and understanding needed for a build like this.
You’re also helping make people like Caleb visible. They’re - we’re - out here with limited ability to take part in society and show ourselves. (Also thank you for keeping the pedestal ableism out of your video and vocabulary - if there were any I didn’t catch it on my first watch).
    Best wishes from Germany!

      Normalizing differences.
Can you explain what pedestal ableism is?

    • @LyingInAGreenBed
      @LyingInAGreenBed หลายเดือนก่อน

@@rebeccapaul4410 sure thing! Though it’s difficult to explain. Maybe another term for it is positive ableism. It describes when people use positivity to express ableist thoughts. It can be very subtle, like the way someone says “Thank you for coming, it’s so good to see you”. If the person says it to everyone in a neutral/happy tone it’s fine. But if it’s “Thank you *soo much* for coming, it’s *sooo* **gooood* to see *you*” that gives off a different vibe. It’s overemphasised and compassionate for something a disabled person might not want compassion for.
Another example is when people lift the person with disability or their carer up on a pedestal. The typical “I couldn’t do what you do”. “You’re an angel to take *such* good care of the disabled person”, “disabled person is *soo* good at xyz*. Most of these things are not inherently bad. It’s the place the person is coming from - often betrayed by the tone of voice - that makes a difference. Genuine compassion for someone is totally fine (say if someone wasn’t sure they could make it somewhere because of their health/disability), but assuming it must have been hard for someone though one doesn’t know makes it weird and ableist, kind of?! I hope I explained that well enough. For further reading or watching I recommend looking into the term “disability porn” (though that might be this phenomenon turned up a notch).
      Have a good day 😌

Two amazing couples, coming together for one another and Caleb. Talented people building out the van so Caleb can go places his body can't take him and his parents wanting him to see the world beyond his room make for truly incredible humans everyone can learn from.

OMG I came across your video purely by accident and I am so grateful that I did. Your efforts to build a very unique home away from home for this family was truely inspiring. You did an amazing job with the inside of the van but it's why you chose to do this build that makes you both so special. You have picked up a new subscriber for sure. I absolutely loved what you were able to do for this family.

Back in the 1960's, some town people had a weekend place out on the bay where we lived. They had a son who had this affliction. He had a purple dune buggy they bought for him to be rode around in because it gave him a lot of pleasure. He outlived both of his parents and passed away a couple of years after they did when he was 55 years old.

I took my friend on a bucket list journey shortly before she died. It was a lot of work but so rewarding to see her enjoy the ocean, trees, wind blowing on the grasses…We spent time at hospitals along the way but that enabled us to keep going, She loved the planet so much and was so grateful to go…I will bet that Caleb is in awe!!! Hope it goes well❤
