Yeah I know what you mean like WANO was rushed because film red. Film red was in the making for like 2 years before the end of WANO so yeah Oda for 2 years had to think of a way to rush wano
He's probably the MOST frustrated
With the information that he accelerated the timeline for film red... I think the truth is actually worse, lol. Oda is always bad at managing time in his series, so my guess is that he actually *didn't* accelerate the timeline until he was panicking like a student with a project due the next morning, and had to *super* accelerate the end of wano in the last couple months.
I think this, because really, it was only the final few chapters that felt *badly* rushed. It seemed like, if oda had left a few bits of the raid on the cutting room floor here and there, we coulda actually got a satisfying ending.

@@gamingparadise3390 ah my wording was poor, I really mean the final few chapters of the raid. The deadline oda had to meet was putting shanks on the page before film red, so everything after that isn't so much in question of being rushed.
I agree with you that some parts dragged, and that's what's frustrating about it. It could have been streamlined more in some parts to allow for the finale to have been more fleshed out. I can give you an outline of the things I would have liked to see, but it's a bunch of writing I dont wanna do unless you'd like to hear about it lol
The scene of Zoro soloing the execution squad at the start of wano is still one of the coolest scenes going and gave me mihawk vibes styling on everyone with the teeny sepuku blade
I swear you have thought zoro was the main character it almost felt like a different show for min the build up

I'm rereading the manga and I've just got past Whisky Peak, and so early in the series, Zoro soloing the whole island full of Baroque Works members was already just so goddamn cool. And that's why he's always been my favorite character
Watching Kin getting pierced with that sword from Kiado would've been the cherry on top! That scene was perfect. Him actually defending his Lord THIS time since he wasn't able to defend him 20 years ago. He failed the father but gets redemption with the son that looks just like his father

I agree with you on really enjoying the Law/Kidd vs Big Mom fight, mostly because I really expected one/multiple Straw Hats to defeat her but they weren't even involved in her end defeat. Plus Kidd and Law's combined attacks were just cool and creative. Really, all the end fights for the Straw Hats were great too, but Sanji's awakening did feel the most rushed to me.
Did it feel rushed when he fought the cp9 member because the same thing in that fight . What a lot of yall are asking for is wano to have been a 5 or 6year arc instead of 4 years drawing out the fights is dumb there like 12 fights most 1 v 1 dont need 5 chapters per fight
@@tesytes318 It's not at all comparable, because he didn't momentarily go full android like his siblings and have a mental breakdown about losing himself in that arc. And there was barely a mention or worry of it happening again at the end of Wano. One Piece isn't perfect, it's okay to put out the flaws.

Top moment: oden seeing his precious toki hurt. We spent so much time with oden and saw his generous and adventurous side. We saw him build everything from scratch his home,his followers, his family. He never really bothered to try to kill orochi because of the threat of Kaido. They really took his kindness as weakness and Orochi really tried to fuck around and found out. My man was FURIOUS
I feel like a big reason why Crocodile was such a good villain was because he was the first to actually beat Luffy twice before Luffy finally put him down. That and he had good buildup in the previous islands with Baroque Works.
It was the writing. I think people don't discriminate between what the author has told about the character and how the author reinforced those ideas for the readers.
Sir Crocodile felt like a real threat because of the many great writing decisions that Oda made. He makes so that Crocodile is always one step ahead of our heroes. He felt unstoppable. Oda just doesn't say that "Crocodile is a criminal mastermind and Shichibukai". He also reinforced those ideas so that the characterization of his character felt genuine and carry a lot of weight.
With Kaido, its different. It felt disappointing because Oda was not able to deliver what he had established about Kaido's character. He felt like an obstacle, a wall, rather than an actual threat that could bite back hard.
in my opinion wano has some of the best highs of the entire series, He Laughed and gear 5 are so amazing it’s hard to brush off all those good moments to call it a bad arc just because some things didn’t get delivered on, i loved kaido, while he may not have gotten an insane backstory we already know everything about him, who he is, his true goals, what drives him and it really works for me, and the roger flashback with the “he laughed” panel might just be the best moment in the entire series for me

Was just thinking, is Buggy the only one who ever got Luffy to accept his death (before "lightning" saved him at the last second)? If so, I'm on the Buggy becomes king train, cause that's only only defeat Luffy really just accepted, if memory serves correctly. Everyone else he kinda just keeps trying or, after Marineford, goes back to put down flowers and ring the bell as a statement and act of defiance

Honestly while there was some rough stuff in the arc, I feel Wano did a lot of great stuff(like the lore and Strong character moments) that I like more than Dressrosa and kinda Whole Cake Island
Dressrosa is Wano done right imo. The only thing I liked better in Wano than Dressrosa is the new gear 5 reveal (hell it was so good it made me retroactively like gear 4).
For me Wano is easily one of the worst (major) arcs in One Piece even if had really good moments, all thanks to how act 3 dragged on and was somehow also rushed. It feels like a setup arc instead of the climax of a saga we've been in for 10+ years.

@@shashankasarikonda7813 "not many cared" is just plain wrong. The whole fanbase was going crazy on the lead up to, and during, the gear 5th reveal and for a large part of the actual Gear 5th Luffy Vs Kaido fight.
So far whole cake islands lows are a lot lower than any of wano. The 5 minute recaps every episode and big mom saying MAMA MAMA. And WEDDING CAAAAAKE for twenty episodes got real old real fast. Which sucks because the highs for whole cake rival the highs in wano. Sanji crying in the rain, fighting Luffy, saving his family, the good parts of Luffy vs kata. BROOKE. They're up there almost as good as Yasuie's death, the udon uprising, Zoro vs Killer, and the raid fights.

Same. He left a lot on the table during the arc and it specifically felt like he was holding back. I remember there was an SBS or interview or something and he was saying he had to he careful what he reveals in wano because he could give away too much. And I think a full Kaidou flash back probably would have done that.

@@LnyxBoost oda was 100% holding back because when you map out kaido timeline you can tell most of his depth and development came from the rocks flashback and after that event is when we kaido outlook on life change. There also the road to laughtale where oda continues to hype up the events of the god valley flashback.
1037 is honestly still my fav chapter from Wano. Just straight up, raw, testosterone fueled battle. Kaido shifting through his drunk phases and Luffy struggling to handle Kaido’s crazy tactics. The choreography was fantastic and the whole chapter was just super hype for me. I can’t wait for the chapter to get animated man
I loved when Big Mom showed how expendable her creations are to her. Her sidekick Zeus was easily replaced & I think Zeus is now solidified as Nami's partner. I can't believe Straw Hat Zeus wasn't mentioned
I think Wano had so much potential to be the best arc or have the best villian but ultimately didn't get ther. What i'll say is there were still amazing moments and seeing the SHs going up against the yonko, something we've waited for so long, felt awesome, it was very satisfying
The reveal of Killer is the moment I think about first when I think about the best moment in Wano, and it happens to be in Udon, so...

Wano is a weird arc. The more I think about it the more I love it. It's definitely a top 5 arc for me. All of the Momo scenes hit me super hard. He has by far the best character arc in the entire series. After Wano, Momo became a top 5 character to me. Chapter 1051 is probably the most cinematic and one of the best chapters in the series. Gear 5 is the best power up I've ever seen and the Nika reveal didn't bother me at all. Wano has so many amazing moments, amazing storytelling and the best fights in the series. The negatives of Wano are definitely real. The end was super rushed. After the Momo speech it felt like Oda wanted to just get out of there and move on. Greenbull and Shanks show up and just leave after 5 minutes. Made very little sense to me. I was a massive fan of One Piece before Wano. I've been reading for like a decade now. But Wano renewed my love for the series. After Dressrosa and Whole Cake I still had faith in Oda. But my enjoyment of the series was going down very slightly. Wano was awesome and seems like the most important arc in the series so far. I can't wait for the Final Saga!
In my opinion its a B arc at most. Sure it has some of the best Highs in the series but when you overbloat an arc with so many useless chapters it can overshadow the highs of an arc.

I have been reading since 1999 and I have the exact opposite thoughts and feelings about Wano. I have waited since the time skip like 10 years ago, every arc in the New World built up toward Wano at some level, Whole Cake was inconclusive and Dressrosa’s crew split are all heavily revolved around elements leading to Wano. To have Wano itself dropping the ball on so many things setup before and during the arc itself, then bloated it with Yamato, Gyukimaru (still has more of a backstory than Kaido), Hiyori, etc that ate up so much screen time compared to Strawhats themselves. That and the fights, Zoro hasn’t had a legitimately challenging fight since Kaku! Every opponent has been annoyance to him since then, for over 10 years! To have Zoro spanking King essentially out of annoyance after his Conqueror Haki power up, essentially out of annoyance like he did Pica and Kaku is huge disappointment. This applies to the rest of Strawhat fights, or the lack thereof for some, none actually pushed them. The fact Robin’s fight is so popular is indicative how low the bar is for Strawhat fights in the arc. Kid and Law vs Big Mom is at best inconclusive with advantage going to their tag team and the bombs macguffin. I get it, Luffy got his shine as he always does, Gear 5 is amazing, I can live on the moments, but everything else handled so poorly especially by Oda writing standards is shocking and robbed all substance from the arc.
I feel like wano is an arc with a even bigger arc. I believe that after all is said and done, we can look back and see how amazing it really was. My reasoning for this theory is that the reverie was a set up arc to the final saga, something that I learned from watching Daniel Greene videos.

I think Kaido should get an Incomplete grade, because we are going to truly learn about his backstory when we learn about God Valley and the Lunarians (with King).

Merphy saying that Udon was the best part of the arc and Liam immediately being done with this interview and not giving Napier any more information was golden. Like of all the parts to enjoy the most, you ended up liking the most boring section of the entire arc and that was clearly indicated with Liam's inflections. Especially when he said he would maybe do a poll just to prove how wrong she is. :D

I love that in the beginning of Wano Sanji punches a nobleman over Otoko’s Soba noodles. She says she’s never eaten anything like it and she’s usually starving. Cut to Luffy vs Kaido when Kaido asks Luffy “what kind of world will you make?” And he says “ONE WHERE MY FRIENDS CAN EAT AS MUCH AS THEY WANT” it’s those kind of small pay offs for me that make this story so great.
I adore all the gags and bits in this and the conversation is very entertaining 😂

Luffy’s dream is living in a world where all his friends can eat as much as they want. He literally said it to kaido. It now makes sense why some people react by laughing.
If that was the dream there would be zero purpose of Oda yet again avoiding showing it be explicitly said by Luffy to the crew right after the arc ended

I agree that Kaido should've gotten more development in Wano. However, I think Oda is purposefully teasing a bit of Kaido's backstory and saving the bulk for Rock's Pirates lore.

Wano was a major shift for me. I was waiting for a huge revelation about the relation between seastones and devil fruits, an back story for the Dragon slayer, a bit more about Zoro, how did Wano geography came to be etc. But since Haki became the new trend I guess changes were necessary...

For as long as we waited for it, I certainly don't feel like it lived up to the hype. Also given historically when they've talked about powerful characters fighting for several days before victory was decided, and that never seems to happen where Luffy's fights are concerned. For me there just felt like too much useless content, the fights weren't all that, there was less revealed than I expected, and the stuff that was revealed wasn't as impressive as I was expecting.

I think a good reason Oda stopped Yamato at the finish line for the Straw Hats was to let Jinbe get his time with the crew I am loving him being a total dad to Luffy Chopper and Bonnie in the latest arc 💙👊🌊

Wano must hit differently when you're binging it. I'm right at Odens backstory and man. Wano is A tier so far. I came into it with high expectations and it's been hilarious, gut punching, doesn't feel like useless bloat as much as previous arcs, and again funny. My favorite part of the arc was Zoros story with the fox spirit leading up to getting Enma.
Yh the backstory is the best part. I binged it too. I think the disappointment alot of us have is that the Yonkous had been gassed up for years and they werent all that in the end
I started reading OP a couple months ago and just got caught up today. Imo, Wano is absolutely top tier. So many wonderful payoffs for so many characters.

To me the biggest thing that Doflamingo and Crocodile has that Kaido doesn't have is Ambition. Doffy and Croc have goals and their sights set on the horizon. They're cocky in a self-assured kind of way. While Kaido is living his Bad Ending: He is strong, and knows this as fact, but doesn't channel this into any real goal in my eyes. It's sad, and a little flat. An interesting character to be sure, but not as engaging to me. That's why the most compelling parts of him are the flashbacks (when he did have ambition) and his enjoyment of being defeated

Wano is S-rank easy. I think people will look back at it more fondly once the series is over. Most of the complaints I've seen were more nitpicks than anything critically damaging to the arc. Personally it's in my top 3 (Marineford>Water 7>Wano)

Best part of Wano to me will absolutely be the Oden flashback. Genuinely my favorite flashback in the story so far, which is honestly crazy
I think doffy was the best made villain, katakuri was the best villain to test luffy and push him farther in terms of learning a new power, and kaido came really close to doing both those things but just didn't. I think luffys three power ups to beat kaido was a bad idea.

A Liam/Merphy arc review would be a order vs chaos, with a dash of charm.
I'd argue it would just be two different kinds of chaos.
Crocodile had an active purpose and goal for all his actions, and that’s why he is narratively more interesting. Kaido was just there. The only thing he wants is to be defeated, which is wholly his purpose in the arc. Crocodile had his own intentions and his plan feels excruciating because of its impending success. Also he is trans, so… best character.
I mean, 4 years of Wano.. I think I'd rush the ending too. Imo Gear 5th Luffy vs. Kaido should've been a much longer fight.
