    Thanks for all your tutorials, they’re extremely helpful. Question about sim brief though: while doing flight plans for a couple short flights, I will sometimes only get a single waypoint without a SID or STAR.
    How do you proceed when this happens? I’ll try to pick SIDS and STARs in the FMC when I’m in X-Plane but I always end up with issues and discontinuities.

    • @FlightBrothersFT
      @FlightBrothersFT  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Not all airports will have a SID/STAR. In that case you would most likely depart runway heading, then direct the waypoint, and pick up the published procedure.
      Thanks for the feedback, we really appreciate hearing how this videos are viewed by the community!

      @@FlightBrothersFT Thanks for the quick reply. So in a case like that, should I just select the departure and arrival runways in the FMC and then not select a SID and STAR?
      It seems that the airports themselves have a SID and STAR, I’m just not getting one from Simbrief when I try to create a flight plan.

    • @FlightBrothersFT
      @FlightBrothersFT  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@shalashaska5478 if it’s a very short flight you can do that. I believe KPHX to KLAS actually has a SID and a STAR that connect at the same transition, so, functionally, there are no “waypoints”

      We don’t have the hot start, but the AIRACs are stored in a few common folders in the XPlane drive. I don’t have it in front of me, but I could look if you really want to know. Some aircraft may store it in their individual folders as well.

  • @mikejw58
    @mikejw58 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I died when you came to AIRAC. I cant do this. All I would like do is learn to set up a flight with a SID, ROUTE, STAR, with an approach to a Cat 3 runway. Then watch the flight from different views. I'm not trying to become an airline pilot. I guess thats why I'll never be a flight simmer. You guys want to make this as real as possible. Your videos are fantastic for someone that wants to make this as real as it can be. Its just not me. Oh well, I think its time to look for a new hobby.

      You can still fly smaller aircraft to build your base. Grab a Cessna or Cirrus Jet, fill the tanks and go. This video is covering tasks that a real world pilot would have to have a PPL, Instrument, Commercial and possibly and ATPL. We hope you don’t give up, but maybe take a step back, evaluate what you are comfortable with and enjoy it for a while, then add one thing you didn’t know, then another etc! Cheers mate, baby steps.

    Thanks for the great video! How about a video on selecting SIDS and STARS?

    • @FlightBrothersFT
      @FlightBrothersFT  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is an interesting topic, but we don't often choose one ourselves. The simbrief will assign you a SID and STAR appropriate to the briefed runway. If we get a runway change, I just look through the charts for one that connects the first/last waypoint of my route to the new runway. Do you have any other questions about selecting SIDs and STARs?

    • @Unwired9374
      @Unwired9374 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Flight Brothers FT Prior to trying SimBrief, I had a Navigraph sub. I’d always have trouble with route planning, especially selecting SID and STARS. I could never get everything to connect properly. SimBrief seems much easier, but I’d still like to know how to piece it all together myself. Thanks again for the quality videos.

    Here is a summery of my life history trying to learn how to be a flight simmer. I followed this tutorial step-by-step when I got to clicking on the ETE, not one of the 20 flights had an ETE, only a departure time, no arrival time. So once again (my life story with flight sims) I hit a road block and give up. Its not like I have a lot of time to spend on this. Even 1/2 hr is a lot to take from my schedule so it looks like I'm not going to ever be successful being a flight simmer. What I will say about flight simulators is they have stimulated in me a love of aviation that has led to me getting my real world PPL. Thankfully I found that it is MUCH easier to learn to fly a real plane than it is to fly with a sim, the only down side is expense, and that's what keeps me coming back to sims, only to get discouraged again and quit. Too bad there are not schools with instructors, just like in the real world, to sit next to you and teach you how to sim. I would sign up in a minute. I even tried Vatsim but, while I appreciate their dedication to help people learn, it just turned out to be too hard to schedule, too time consuming, and too frustrating since the instructor is not sitting next to you and seeing what you're seeing. Oh well, I think my next step will to buy a super gaming computer, MS FS 2020 and yank and bank with the nice scenery and weather. I would love to use a sim to help me get my instrument rating, but I doubt that will ever happen. But thank you for posting these videos!

    • @FlightBrothersFT
      @FlightBrothersFT  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Don’t give up if it’s something you truly enjoy. Do you have an aircraft profile loaded? This was not easy for us at first either, and remember, if you’re on Simbrief, you’re flying heavy metal. PPL’s don’t fly Boeing and Airbus’. Flight has always been a challenge, after all, we’ve only been doing it for about 120 years! ✈️ And you can use this on MFS also! We make videos on that too!

    • @FlightBrothersFT
      @FlightBrothersFT  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I can definitely relate to your experience. Fortunately I had Flightbro Lee to help me through those roughest parts, and I read some great books. It's kind of like learning 10 skill sets at the same time, and it's often frustrating. We hope you check out more of our tutorials. If our commenters can be believed, our tutorials are some of the clearest and easiest to follow. Happy flying! -Flightbro Tim

    • @mikejw58
      @mikejw58 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@FlightBrothersFT I would agree with your commenters, your tutorials are very clear and easy to follow. It seems that one big problem with TH-cam tutorials is many of them are out dated. I've learned to try to look for the most recent ones, but even with some of them, there has been updates that have changed things. So when I finally find some time to sit down and get to work on learning, I spend a hour or so only to reach a dead end. Very frustrating. So now, the minute I come across a discrepancy in the tutorial and what I'm seeing, I quit in frustration. Its not your content by no means. Its me.

      I am not sure what and which points or areas in fly simming that is making the experience so frustrating and difficulty? I did my PPL training decades ago and actually stopped flying for decades, which I only started flight simming (XP 11 and 12) roughly 8 months ago. Yes there has been some formatting and setup challenges-issues along the way but all were eveentually overcome through research watching YT, reading forums. But as far as flying both visual and utilizing instruments it has been relatively easy to learn, figure-out, navigate and manage the flight simming experience. It sounds like maybe your are trying to do too much without first conquering each step before progressive to the step. I did experience some frustration getting xpilot and vatsim going since I am a mac user, but after reading tons of blogs and forums it all finally came together and it works great. I am not an instrument rated pilot but I can setup an instrument flight to some far away airport with departure (SIDS) and approaches (STARS and it functions seamlessly -- in most situations. Try going back to ensure all components are setup correctly and take baby steps (not personal) conquering each step before moving to the next for instrument flight. Congratulations receiving your PPL! If you want scenery ultra pretty aesthetics and play a flight game then yes go with MSFS. But if you are serious at flying and want to experience more realistic hardcore flying then go with XP 11 or XP 12! I love both!!! Good luck!

      Great read and thanks for relating to challenges experienced by new and old simmers and pilots of different experiences! A nice way to enhance your XPlane experience is using Ortho scenery, or using some of Orbx scenery products for either sim platform. I’m not sure Orbx has released anything yet for XP12, but I’m sure it’ll happen. Cheers and happy simming!

      If you enter an airway all points along it should populate until the waypoint you “tell it” to go to another one. The same applies with a SID or STAR. You should only have to supply the transition to or from the SID/STAR

    • @FlightBrothersFT

      Short answer, maybe. Each AIRAC nav cycle (monthly) includes changes. That said, quite a few things remain the same. I would suggest using SimBrief to get a basic route, try putting it into your FMC, and then see how many waypoints work. Sometimes everything will still be valid or perhaps only a waypoint or two are unusable. In that case, see if you have enough to remaining waypoints to still complete the flight. VORs almost never change so they are a pretty safe replacement for GPS points also.
