They did the right thing. Espresso or Americano are great as a first taste to know what coffee actually taste like. Then it comes the variations with milk, chocolate or vainilla and then, _and only then,_ you can add sugar or honey. The same goes for liquor or beer. As a first time, you just can't give a shot of tequila, vodka or a beer diluted in soda or whatever.... people have to taste it first straight as they come out of the bottle in order to appreciate the actual flavor for the first time. Just like honey or sugar are sweet; alcohol or coffee are bitter, that's how it naturally taste like. People needs to remember that bitter conforms a part of the basic human taste, it can be unpleasant, sharp, or disagreeable on the first time, yes! However, that's actually what makes coffee what it is. It's proven by science that adding sweeteners to everything (in order to make everything sweet) can distort the perception and confuse the brain synapses. The masses can drink poison mixed with a sweetener (sugar is the most common but not the only one) and never be aware that they're drinking poison, that's why sodas, canned fruit juice and nectars have a huge success, they're all gross artificial stuff mixed with sugar emulating natural flavors, that can confuse the brain by thinking it's a natural flavor, but it isn't, all of that while the rest of the organs suffer the consequences of those beverages.
@@xolotlmexihcah4671 I wasn't saying add sweeteners, or creamer. But a weaker brew to start, but your eloquently put response, has actually made me rethink my stance on them trying espresso first, and now I think they made the right move after all. You and your family stay safe!😎

When he says "a drug", he means medicine. Primitive medicines often tasted bitter, which is why these people associate coffee with medicine and assume that it is healthier than tea.
Adam Blister wrong. Brits introduced tea to India from China. I’m of Indian origin. Our ancestors never drank tea before the Brits came. We had our local variants including spiced water with lemon, and fermented drinks made out of rice and barley. It wasn’t until the east India company started mass producing tea in Assam, tea was unknown to us.
Honestly coffee is trash compared to chai and i drink both regularly, but chai requires more work. Boil water, add milk then boil mill then and teabags.
"We can use it as a medicine for the constipation problem in the kids." Actually that's the entire reason some people in my household drink it. You're not far off there.
Oliver Halder I mean technically he’s not having it freshly made so I can imagine it being warm or luke warm not piping hot like when they first hand it to you makes it not taste as good
But he is right actually. The desi version of coffee that we make directly on stove is made like tea and it's boiled. So most of us desis have our coffee fully boiled because that's how we have our tea as well
What he is trying to say is the taste of coffee seems to be missing or the flavor are not properly extracted maybe. In chai if you boil the tea down a bit more the tea flavor gets more concentrated.
Ironically coffee grows more bitter the hotter the water used to brew it. That plus time, and quantity of water influences the bitterness of coffee and generally you don't use boiling water for coffee at all. So "boiling it more" would actually make it taste worse not better.

"Cawfee or Cahfee"
*New York instincts intensify*
If you are from NYC (boroughs, not imports) then you definitely say cawfee.
@@soakedbearrd its the only thing about me that really sounds NY. I'm 30 so didn't really grow up in the old NY. I say "father" not "fathuh" etc. But when it comes to "dog" and "coffee" you can hear the accent still. "Cawfee" "dawg".
Espresso as a first time trying coffee? Cruel.
Lucky for them it wasn't a ristretto
That sets a good bar for what to expect
You and your family stay safe!😎

bad coffee is usually bitter, espresso is bitter but not good filter coffee.
"Maybe people use it as a drug."
Well, considering i need caffeine a certain amount of times a day, i'd have to agree.
When he says "a drug", he means medicine. Primitive medicines often tasted bitter, which is why these people associate coffee with medicine and assume that it is healthier than tea.

British people only know about tea because of the Chinese.

"just boil it more" solution to all problems brought to you by man in black jacket
Oliver Halder I mean technically he’s not having it freshly made so I can imagine it being warm or luke warm not piping hot like when they first hand it to you makes it not taste as good
He is right
But he is right actually.
