- Having sold our VW camper I was on the look out for another van to convert, so found this ex BT Fleet van, probably overpaid for it but being ex BT myself I know their vans are properly serviced.
In this video I start stripping out the racks and other equipment.

I think you've got a good one. The peg boards and racking will come in handy too.
Best wishes, Dean.
Yes just need to find space in the shed to fit it in.
Looking forward to this, very interesting thanks 😊
Thanks for this video series. Very useful. You have inspired me to get an ex BT Ducato….. what have I let myself in for?????
A lot of work! But worth it in the end.
Hi there, i've got the same van as you, ex BT fleet to convert. Does your ambient temperature show on the dash? Mine doesn't. I bought a new mirror unit with a sensor and still not showing any temperature reading.
I have no ambient temperature display either but I think this is correct.
I believe the sensor is only required if you have climate control (AC) fitted, probably an optional extra, I doubt BT fleet would have these fitted as standard.
If you had AC and the sensor was faulty it would display '- - - 0C' bottom left.
@InTheShedUK Thank you for taking the time to respond and confirm this. It is very much appreciated 👍
I’m just about to buy a van, I’ll be keeping the heater and water boiler in but removing everything else. God help me, wirings not my strong point
Good luck! Personally I really like wiring.
Hi. Im doing the same as you to my Ex BT Ducato. Can you tell me or show where the rear electric power comes in and from please? Is it just off the main alternator or the battery as well?
Hi, the 12v positive feed comes from the main van battery (under the cab floor) to the aux battery via a heavy cable and relay, a second positive cable goes from the aux battery to the main fuse box for the rear (1x150amp, 2x70amp, 1x50amp, 1x40amp) these feed other relays for the various circuits, some go direct (water boiler, inverter, crane) others go via another fuse box.
It is quite a complicated system, I do have a circuit diagram but the simplest thing to do if your doing a conversion is just remove the lot and start from scratch!
Start by disconnecting the positive feed from the main van battery, this will isolate the complete system to the rear, then disconnect the aux battery.
These vans have smart alternators so it is best to get a battery to battery charger (not a split charger) for your leisure (aux) battery.
I will be fitting a Sterling Power BB1230.
There is a pickup point for 12v charging in the drivers side door pillar (behind a cover at the bottom) a 6mm pos & neg cable connector, but you do need to get special spade terminals (search ebay) there is also a multi-plug where you can pickup engine run and ignition feeds.
Hope this helps.
@InTheShedUK Thats awesome and thanks alot for all the help and advice. I will get on it over the weekend now I have a starting point. Is there any chance i could I get a copy of system diagram from you please?
@@paulcornwell8920 Hi, just uploaded a video of the wiring diagram, you should be able to freeze frame and do a screen capture.
@InTheShedUK Thanks alot and that makes things easier to follow. I noticed that you have lots of classic bike videos so I've told my dad check you out as he loves them as he rides one still. Have a great New Year and look forward to seeing more.
