I used to get upset with power boats but over the years have learned what matters: 1) When it's flat its power boat weather, when it blows its sailboat weather, works out fine for both. 2) If racing I would rather they passed me at full speed and as close as can be done safely. The worst case is the wana do gooder who slows from planing speed to bow in the sky 50 yards out, giving huge waves that go on for 6-8 waves. The boat that goes by at full speed and close makes 1 ripple size wave to go over.
Hi, I have done a few bottoms (hull bottoms). To make work easier take a couple of lines put a weight 1/2 pound or so in the middle and pass them under your yacht, tie them of either side appropriately spaced and hold on to one when scraping (no need to swim against the scraper) it makes life much easier and you can take a break each time you come up to move them. Appreciate the advice, but after 10 years as a liveaboard, I sold the boat a couple of years ago. After two years on the ocean, I never plan on doing another bottom job.

Add a tee to the hose out into a tank or a big rubber intertube, it will store air while your exhaling and if you stay shallow you should get plenty of air.
You channel is very different than the majority of sailing channels . a few weeks ago someone was asking about an electrical problem they were trying to monitor something and I gave them the link to your site and your video solved the problem. Just like this product could have killed some one. Most of the products reviewed are donated and are given rave reviews, when in reality they are crap but some people are just looking for more donations.. When I first learned to sail not only did you learn about about the adjustments of the sails and the rigging but about maintenance, similar to what I was taught in getting my pilots license. A lot of the people that are sailing to far away lands are the type of people that have a problem at home they call the guy instead of learning how to fix it on there own. The more that people run into the problems at sea I think your channel will become more popular, don't give up. I watch and I have learned a few things, so I know others will learn from you.as well. Whenever I have scrapped the hull of mine or friends boats I run a line under the hull and it gives me something to hold onto and stabilizes me so that I don't have to fight to stay in the area I am working on. Give it a try and let me know how it works for you.

I'm a Gold Miner- I Use a "Hookah" system to recover (values) in the river systems. My 2 cents: purchase a Keene Engineering T80 Compressor with Honda GXH50 motor. They run around $1k. Will get you safely down to 30'. I have a 50' air line, the fifty feet is mainly for freedom of movement in the river. Call them up, ask for Pat the Owner. Gives Vet discounts, and such. Nice people. good luck.
Is it safe? I heard you need to be careful about which compressor you breathe with because some use oil which will get into the air and give you asthma over time.

Hey man thank you for this comment. I was researching these rigs and saw this so I gave them a call. They took the time ask me about my needs to make sure I got the best equipment to suit me. The shipping was fast. 3 days. And the gear has been operating amazingly. Def worth the $1100 I spent to have a higher quality rig.
You can also use a pony bottle typically used as a backup for SCUBA. They are less than $500 new. They are refilled by hand pump, so can be used over and over with no electricity. They hold about 20 minutes of air.
spare air? I had one of those, just what I needed and some 'dive pros' told me it wasnt good for anything and I discarded it. They were, little did I know, trying to sell me their stuff at the usual high cost. Thanks. Oh well, Im doing a hookah now with a Dewalt compressor with 1.5 some scfm, Should do the job. This guy needs a reservoir tank for the compressor.
My introduction to diving was with the old double hose with the regulator on the tank. When you were face down, you had to suck hard to get air, when you were face up, you had to let it escape to keep from blowing up your lungs. LOL
I would say that’s a few years before my time. Doesn’t sound like it be much fun. I do enjoy scuba but I still get a little anxious even at 50 or 60 feet.

That was way back in the early 60's. A few years ago I got to meet his son Jeff Bridges, the actor. Real nice guy. Did a TV spot with him in Santa Barbara CA.

Was watching another video, and they clear a spot then use a dual suction cup with a handle to hold on to the side of the boat. this way you don't have to keep kicking to stay in one spot. I think you can find them at the local auto repair store or on Amazon.
You have a great channel. I haven’t watched a lot but what I have I really liked. ROFL You do have a bit of an Anger problem, but I’m the same way. So no worries.... Try not to mind the Idiots who by their comments prove they have never been on the water except for Maybe going to the beach. It always disappoints me to see that people are becoming more and more only self aware. They don’t think of others, even their own families. I’m a bit older and can remember when people had a bit of concern ,respect and courtesy toward others. I was raised in a water loving family. We spent as much time as we could on the water. As I grew to a man I kept the lessons I learned. The slow down for another boat thing is not only for courtesy. That is one of the reasons, but safety is another major concern. When my son was 4 1/2 years old we took them crabbing in one of our smaller boats. We were doing fine and were close to shore as the tide was low and the crabs were feeding most on the debris that came out of the water as the tide water left the marshes. My wife had just pulled a basket up full of beautiful blue crabs. My young son was very excited and knew better but was jumping up and down in joy. At the exact time another boat came by doing 4 or 5 times faster than was safe for a creek on low tide or anywhere close to another boat. The wake was very large and both my wife, two daughters and myself had to hold on to keep from being thrown out. Both my wife and I were trying to catch my son but the boat tipped toward him in the middle of a jump. He went right over the side. He had on a life preserver but the orange pads only covered the front top half of his body. He landed I shallow water but the bottom was an oyster bed. He was very, VERY HORRIBLY cut on his back, the backs of his legs and fore arms. I tell you honestly that’s the worst thing for a parent to see. Their young child surrounded by a pool of brackish ( gray,green) water and Blood. So much blood. I tried to pick him straight up out of the water and clean him. He was not having it. He struggled and screamed till I thought me eardrums would burst. Because there were chips of oyster all over him we decided to just cover him and get to the emergency room. I radioed ahead so an ambulance was waiting for us. I know I’m writing a novel here and apologize. Needles to say it took 9 hours to clean him and put the 118 stitches he needed. At 4:30 am we were finally able to see our baby again. Looking back now it’s funny to think he looked like a mummy covered head to foot with clean (mostly) white bandages. We stayed night and day with him because he was afraid. We would never have left him anyway. He was lucky and the Doctors were able to stave off infection. We took our son home on the 4th day. Because he was so young most of the scars have faded and disappeared. All but a few. He will carry those forever......... ALL of this happened because someone couldn’t bother slowing down a little even though they had to see we had young children. That boat and people were etched in my brain even though I only saw them for a second. Every time from then on our trips were a little sadder because I was looking for that boat. A piece of my mind was gonna be the last thing they got from me. My Son recovered and still LOVES the water. He now takes out his family for Crabbing adventures. Thank you to ANYONE who took the time to read this. I hope it was helpful for some who may not understand WHY!

I don't know this for certain but I imagine you can take the hose from the system you have and cut the ends off and attach a 1st stage to 1 end and a 2nd stage to the other then you can attach it to a scuba tank and breath of the bottle while it's still in the boat and your on the water. be woth a shot for an experiment if you can buy some cheap parts from eBay or something.
Considered buying a hookah system but didn't. They are unsellable in the UK as they can't pass the tests for a CE certificate. We wanted it for the exact same thing you do. Will look forward to the scuba video instead. all tips and tricks are welcome!
I live in Fl and spend 90%of my time on the water. my wife always jokes about getting a house boat. I asked her what we are waiting on. Waiting till my 12yo moves out. And if you needs ideas for videos. Do one whenever u do any repairs at all. And diff Kinds of storage ideas. People eat that stuff up.
It's definately the 120 watt model or higher, they tend to only put out 17psi so you can't drop to 15, 30, 60, 90 watts irrigardless of volumetric air delivery. Kinda like the head on a water pump that only lifts 4'. These are struggling at 6-8' which is still deep enough to get in trouble.
@@dananorth895 actually i built one a few weeks back using a 160lpm 120 watt. Added 2 gallon reserve tank, filter and fine tuned my reg. Theres 3 guys that built similar setups using same pump..they go way past 8 foot depth..i only tested mine at 8 feet so far but i am sure i can handle more..
I bought that 18 buck regulator on e bay it's, grea quality! You should get one and add buffer tank like I wrote bro. You can parallel another 40 buck 12v comp. if needed.
look i to Viair compressors. 150 psi 12volt. Run it into a 3 gal tank. Or check out a place here in fl called Gator Gill. they have some nice inexpensive hooka systems. just doing the repairs on ur boat yourself will pay for it self.
ended up using the money to buy a couple of scuba tanks. Not quite as convenient but you don't have the hose and the restrictions to deal with and it was a lot cheaper. I'll still look into it and appreciate your comments.
No idea. I think it was 120 cmf. That was over a year ago. Regardless, it's not what that pump was made for and should never be used for humans to breathe.
Commercial electric systems uses same kind of pump. membrane pump does not affect your health, if you add few things like small pressure tank, safety elements and special breating hose and regulator is good as the original.
I retired just over two years ago. I have no interest in my life anymore. Never had kids so no grandkids. Got retired due to a severe back injury and can barely walk. But if I had another boat, I might leave my room. Last boat I had was a Columbia 43. Sure do miss it. I heard the guy I sold it to lost it during a hurricane. I don't know which one.
Hate to hear about the bad things that of happened but never give up. Never sit down. That’s the quickest way to the grave. Find a passion, find a dream and make your life about that. Best wishes.
@@SVWildHare Trying to do that. I was a Boy Scout and then an assistant Scout Master for the same troop back in the 60's and 70's. Then went into the Navy. I was thinking about joining another Boy Scout Troop as an Assistant Scout Master again about a year ago. Glad I didn't join that troop. The Scout Master got arrested for abusing the boys. I've also been looking for another boat. But while I have the down payment, the bank is real strict on boat loans. Less than 10 years old, and mandatory 20% minimum down.
I feel that if people take the time to send me a comment that I should take the time to send them a reply. I do still Scuba, not many places to go in East Tennessee. Wish I could do more.
It would be fine if you were just underwater looking around but just not enough air of any kind of activity. Sold it a long time ago and never heard back so I guess it worked for them.

I would never breathe from a compressor that wasn't made for human use. Breathing atomized compressor oil is really bad for you - could even cause a blackout while underwater. Your plan of getting an aluminum 80 is way better. You can get 'em on Craigslist cheap, and what's an air fill? $5?
how many cases of people becoming unconscious do you know of from atomized compressor oil? is it a good idea, obviously not, but you have no idea what your talking about.

From the video, it appears you’re close to the middle of the body of water. If speeding boats are a problem, why not get closer to one side? As for them slowing down, you’re in a big boy boat, not a small flat bottom fishing boat. Grow up.
I was anchored in a cove where it is very popular to do so. At the deepest point it’s 20’ and shallows quickly. How about find something better to do than make stupid comments on random videos when you weren’t there. This isn’t a one time incident. People in boats like that, wake boats and others who don’t anchor out are very inconsiderate and no matter where you go. Obviously you have no experience with this.

You should try Gator Gill. I've been using that one for 2 years. It's 12 volt and two of us can dive to 20 feet no problem.

Many of the compressors like the one you have are made by Boyu, if yours is a Boyu can you tell me what model is yours?

Yes if you going Beyond a certain depth. If you’ve not been through scuba class I would highly recommend it.
I plan to use it in pools. Do you know how deep the typical pool is?
You’ll be fine. I would say most are 8 to 12 feet.

Right ... its not enough psi pushed from the aeration pump....you can get the Bauer 1.6 gallon air compressor its quite good

I would be very leery about breathing the output of a cheap compressor made of who knows what materials are being pushed into your lungs.

I live in Fl and spend 90%of my time on the water. my wife always jokes about getting a house boat. I asked her what we are waiting on. Waiting till my 12yo moves out. And if you needs ideas for videos. Do one whenever u do any repairs at all. And diff Kinds of storage ideas. People eat that stuff up.
Get suction cup handle to hold you to bottom of boat while scraping boat. Helps you save energy.

Is this the 60 watt model that produces 120 liters per min of air or the 120 watt that sends out 160 liters per min? You never mentioned...thanks
That was a long time ago. I have no idea. The whole point was it’s made to aerate ponds, not for breathing underwater.
It's definately the 120 watt model or higher, they tend to only put out 17psi so you can't drop to 15, 30, 60, 90 watts irrigardless of volumetric air delivery. Kinda like the head on a water pump that only lifts 4'. These are struggling at 6-8' which is still deep enough to get in trouble.
@@dananorth895 actually i built one a few weeks back using a 160lpm 120 watt.
Added 2 gallon reserve tank, filter and fine tuned my reg.
Theres 3 guys that built similar setups using same pump..they go way past 8 foot depth..i only tested mine at 8 feet so far but i am sure i can handle more..

I would recommend either buying a proper hookah kit or going with scuba. Don’t go cheap, it’s a good way to get dead.
Did that regulator seem turn valve on easy when you inhale?
It had a completely free flow regulator on it. No Purge, no adjustment.
I bought that 18 buck regulator on e bay it's, grea quality! You should get one and add buffer tank like I wrote bro. You can parallel another 40 buck 12v comp. if needed.
look i to Viair compressors. 150 psi 12volt. Run it into a 3 gal tank. Or check out a place here in fl called Gator Gill. they have some nice inexpensive hooka systems. just doing the repairs on ur boat yourself will pay for it self.
ended up using the money to buy a couple of scuba tanks. Not quite as convenient but you don't have the hose and the restrictions to deal with and it was a lot cheaper. I'll still look into it and appreciate your comments.

Hello! what parameters have your pump? i saw max can get at 12v 160Lpm 120W.
No idea. I think it was 120 cmf. That was over a year ago. Regardless, it's not what that pump was made for and should never be used for humans to breathe.
Commercial electric systems uses same kind of pump. membrane pump does not affect your health, if you add few things like small pressure tank, safety elements and special breating hose and regulator is good as the original.
I retired just over two years ago.
I have no interest in my life anymore. Never had kids so no grandkids.
Got retired due to a severe back injury and can barely walk.
But if I had another boat, I might leave my room.
Last boat I had was a Columbia 43. Sure do miss it.
I heard the guy I sold it to lost it during a hurricane. I don't know which one.

@@SVWildHare Trying to do that. I was a Boy Scout and then an assistant Scout Master for the same troop back in the 60's and 70's. Then went into the Navy.
I was thinking about joining another Boy Scout Troop as an Assistant Scout Master again about a year ago. Glad I didn't join that troop. The Scout Master got arrested for abusing the boys.
I've also been looking for another boat. But while I have the down payment, the bank is real strict on boat loans. Less than 10 years old, and mandatory 20% minimum down.

I feel that if people take the time to send me a comment that I should take the time to send them a reply. I do still Scuba, not many places to go in East Tennessee. Wish I could do more.
You know you can buy a 10$ bug sprayer from any hardware store and wash it out and use that as a scuba tank

It would be fine if you were just underwater looking around but just not enough air of any kind of activity. Sold it a long time ago and never heard back so I guess it worked for them.

I do everything on my boat myself as well, I think even if I had the money to pay someone else I still would havd do it myself. Striped the whole thing down two years back and refinished it,, long chore but at least it's done.
Sometimes take notions of an Atlantic crossing but probably never will,, my boats 40 years old and only 29ft
Had a bad trip last time but I have plans to try again in 15 months.

I would never breathe from a compressor that wasn't made for human use. Breathing atomized compressor oil is really bad for you - could even cause a blackout while underwater. Your plan of getting an aluminum 80 is way better. You can get 'em on Craigslist cheap, and what's an air fill? $5?
Jakfilm most dive shops won't fill up unless you are scuba certified so that $5 is useless
how many cases of people becoming unconscious do you know of from atomized compressor oil? is it a good idea, obviously not, but you have no idea what your talking about.
It a rubber diaphragm pump the needs no lube. The best chose for hookah diving if you have 5 CFM for heavy breathing.

From the video, it appears you’re close to the middle of the body of water. If speeding boats are a problem, why not get closer to one side? As for them slowing down, you’re in a big boy boat, not a small flat bottom fishing boat. Grow up.
I was anchored in a cove where it is very popular to do so. At the deepest point it’s 20’ and shallows quickly. How about find something better to do than make stupid comments on random videos when you weren’t there. This isn’t a one time incident. People in boats like that, wake boats and others who don’t anchor out are very inconsiderate and no matter where you go. Obviously you have no experience with this.
