Agreed! I came from the world of hard rock and classic heavy metal growing up in the 70s and 80s, I couldn't ignore the Fixx and Jamie inspired me immensely, such a creative player and he taught me that the guitar can be more than I knew!
I've loved Jamie since the early 80s, and The Fixx was my 80s band. Such a unique sound. I met them in 1991, and Jamie was SUPER nice to me! Great guitarist, and a great guy.
JWO came up with arguably the most iconic guitar tones of the 80s - and I mean that with highest praise. It's one of my favorite sounds that has ever come out of an electric guitar. I've revisited The Fixx over the last year, and am surprised by how well their songs stand up. I'm glad to see they're still around and prospering. P.S. Great choice for "desert island disc". I second Jamie's motion...
I was so excited to see Jamie West-Oram contributing his Big 5. He is such an incredible player and was a huge influence on my early electric playing. That influence is still there today. Would love to see more on Jamie, and players like him. Completely underrated!
Oram is an absolute pro. His playing is totally devoid of ego or indulgence and he plays to serve the songwriting. I just listened to Phantoms and Reach The Beach recently and noticed there is virtually NO solos or anything unnecessary from all the musicians in The Fixx. All the tracks are so well written and recorded with no showboating.
I saw The Fixx live for the first time in 1983, hearing and seeing Jamie West-Oram playing the solo-part of "The Fool" made me begin to play electric guitar and become a professional. Thank you Jamie!
He never plays a solo. The songs are simply loaded with great guitar parts. I love those explosive shimmering chords at the end of "Outside". Oram executes that track perfectly. Any other guitarist would have gone overboard with too much gain and saturation whereas Oram's tone is nearly crystal clear with only subtle breakup.
Jamie is one of my favourite players. In fact I modeled my style & sound from him back in the 80s. I can't believe that he has nominated Neil Young as a hero. I completely agree. NY was the reason I started taking guitar seriously back in the late 70s. 'Like a Hurricane' is one of the greatest solos ever. Both of these guys, Jamie & NY, are unique. 🥰
Neil is by no mean anything but genius with the skills he has been blessed with. Yeah he has has some tough things to overcome vs some others but he makes great lemonade.
If you listen to Neil young's later electric guitar work it's actually amazing. Listen to weld, live rust, life, rust bucket, and countless more you'll come to agree with me. Then again, it's all a matter of taste. To me, even albums like everybody knows this is nowhere and anything with CSNY you'll hear how much electric guitar prowess Neil has.
Rubbish but brilliant ..its pure and the most exciting guitar playing in the last 40 years ...its everything and nothing..the same as a beautiful painting..
@Jimmy Galloway I got 3 doses of the Pfizer vaccine and now I have a superpower: I can tell you're so edgy. What about every other artist who has no problem sharing Spotify with known pedophile R Kelly, including Joe Rogan? But please reel off your medical credentials so I can make an informed decision on what to put in my ears.
I think Gene Simmons would be poster child for sell outs. Not a fan of Young's politics myself but I'm sure others dont' like mine so we agree to disagree.

Love Jamie West-Oram. Such a criminally underrated and too often overlooked guitarist. Please more interviews from guitarists like him!

Love this dude..... I always thought the Fixx should have been a household name like U2.

The most underrated of the underrated. Who knows why!

Jamie! He was my guitar teacher for a few years when I was in school. What a privledge that was looking back.
I saw The Fixx live for the first time in 1983, hearing and seeing Jamie West-Oram playing the solo-part of "The Fool" made me begin to play electric guitar and become a professional. Thank you Jamie!
Jamie is a perfect example of a player that serves the song. Great taste and tones!

Love Jamie West-Oram. Super cool dude in a super cool band. Thanks for this!
I love The Fixx …
My Life in the Bush of Ghosts changed my life. Amazing recording. Great choice!
Just checked out a piece of that Laswell Byrne material. Definitely going to dial it in again on the hi Fi tomorrow when everyone's awake.
That album where Brian Eno brought in David Byrnes to gain commercial success. :)
Was with Jamie when he picked up the Schecter. Those were wonderful days.
Excellent choice of Desert Island Disc.
That album has been stolen from my collection more times than any other ...
'Regiment' still stirs me ...
This is just so great : )
Hey Jamie John from texas , keep up the good work , see u guys soon !
Great job, Jamie! Looking forward to finally hearing Lighthouse! 🤣
Hell yeah, one of the great "unknowns"
Jamie is the man. Awesome guitarist & musician. Legend.

What fuckery comes this way🤟🏻
I’d take rubbish but brilliant over virtuoso but soulless any day.
I agree Neil Young is "rubbish", but it has nothing to do with his guitar playing.
Neil Young? RUBBISH? SHAME on you!
Hello child, listen to what the man said. Kind regards, a Neil Young fan
Neil Young " never sell's out" ..wtf, like hell. the ' old man' is the poster child of sell outs.
@Jimmy Galloway western chauvinist moment

@Jimmy Galloway looks like you stirred up the hiveminded NY simps
