Just an addition to the conversation. In 1969 I received an Ordained Minister License from the Universal Life Church through the mail. This was before the internet. I was 21, in college and had a couple of peers from Texas who wanted me to perform their wedding. Their parents flew up to Seattle area from Texas. The father of the bride took one look at my long haired, beaded hippy self and questioned how I could preside over the ceremony.
He called the county marriage license department and asked if I was legitimate with this Universal Life Church document. Their response was classic! Does your daughter and fiancé believe he has the Power to marry them? The father said yes they do. The clerk responded,”Then he has the Power”. End of questioning. They are still married 50 years later!

How does one transition into reading the vows if the couple choices the repeat after me option?

@@unboringwedding marrige vows in 2019 should be changed. Even if you do the traditional vows they should be changed to fit reality in 2019. For instance the ( till death do us part) part of the vow should be changed ( till i get tired of you).

As an officiant in the state of Georgia, we are required to do a Declaration of Intent and this is separate from the vows. Essentially I must verify that the couple is there of their own free will, they understand that they are entering into a legal covenant and they are there because they want to be married to each other. Basically, saying "I do" is required by law but vows are a separate part and not legally required. While a wedding can be done with only the Declaration of Intent, 99% of the 1400+ couples I've married choose to either write and read their own vows or repeat after me, using one of the 150 options I offer.

I am so thankful for your videos. My niece asked me to be the officiant for her wedding and although I do a lot of public speaking for my work I have never felt it is one of my strong points. Your tutorials are extremely helpful and make me feel like I've done this before. However, I have one very heartfelt and serious question. I love this niece as much as I love anyone, I was there the day she was born and she has been a huge part of my life. Her father/my brother and I are incredibly close. Not only is it going to be an emotional day for the couple and their families, but also for me. I have a real fear of crying during my officiant duties (particularly if I cast a glance at my brother/make eye contact) and I see him losing it. Any advice?

Within the province of Ontario, there are only 2 vow styles that satisfy the Marriage Act. Either write and read their own, or repeat after me. The “I do’s” are the declarations of intent which are different from the vows.

@@unboringwedding thanks because I'm sorta tripping about all of it. 3rd time but the 1st 2 I just went along with all the traditions. But I decided this time I feel more like me and who I am I've ever felt. So im wearing black and red and denim ND leather biker boots and im gonna have smoked pork and a big party in the bar I own. I think little girls get this idea about what the perfect day would be and they don't just say HEY I don't have to wear white I don't have to do anything I don't want to. It's your special day. Frankly it's my 3rd I would have been happy at the courthouse. But he had 1 wife b4 me but never a wedding. He wants to get married in the bar we own and run together. So I said well if we must it's gonna be our way. My mama tried to buy me a white wall down type runner. I I just threw my hands up and said I TOLD YOU NO WHITE 🤭🤣🤣 I think she gets it now

When my wife and got married 38 years ago we wrote our own vows. We wrote them on note cards and had them handy for reference but we pretty much had them memorized. We did a 30 year anniversary re-do and still remember those vows. Her father married us and was still alive to say some words at our 30th but we had a younger person do the officiating. Many more attended our 30th as we had many more friends at that time in our lives. Party!
I am performing the ceremony for my son and his fiancé this week and they have written their vows but are going to repeat phrases after me. I think that will work well and take some pressure off of them.
