    As a student of Brendan Lai, your strong display of this form was much appreciated. Good celerity and completeness of movements, with helpful pointers of many techniques and positions.

    The coolest thing about learning a traditional style is that you can practice anywhere and it'll be the same techniques being taught. I practiced Seven Star Mantis Kung Fu in Belém (Northern Brazil) about 18 years ago, and I was taught those exactly same moves for Bung Bo Kuen. Beautiful walkthrough, by the way! Congrats!

    I learned this from Lo Man Bui, a classmate of Brendan Lai who taught in Boston Chinatown. This is a very helpful video since the movements are precise, and the pace is good for learning purposes.

    Excellent walk through instructional video. I studied 7 Star when I was a kid. Learned quite a lot. Later learned Songshan Shaolin Temple Kung Fu which I still practice today.. I intend to relearn all of my 7 Star Kung Fu forms to preserve the training I went through and move forward. Thank you for the inspiration. Salute

    *Thank you very much Sifu, I have been searching for a slow demonstration of Bung Bo Kuen, and yours is the best I have found ! I learned it long ago and now I am trying hard to bring it back to my mind again. The school where I learned it was «L'institut de Tong Long Kung Fu Tai Chi» which was located in the town of Beauport, Québec. That school closed in 2005, I moved to another town, and lost contact with all my camarades of the old days.*

    The end of bung bo with the sweeps is so spot on, yet who is going to take a fall in practice to really get it right. Really important part of JKD.

    I am very impressed with the demonstration of your katas.
    But I would like very much to see a practical demonstration of Praying Mantis Kung-fu in a self defense street application . Because I've been told that Praying Mantis techniques contain joint locks , wrist locks , wrestling moves , and submission holds . I would like to see these techniques applied in a ;
    Self defense scenario when one is attacked on the street .

    Thank you! Well executed and explained. Our own form, we call it the "Stomping Praying Mantis" form, is very similar, but with difference in expression more than technique. They are so much alike that I will use this form as a template for my students to study. All the best, thanks again.

    Sifu, after watching this video and the original Tape 1 by Sigung Lee, I noticed a few (minute) differences , such as grab/pluck fairly quick (00:16) rather than grab outward bending fingers successively to hook hand; around 00:21 palm makes outward circle and is brought to the hip with the fingers up rather than retreat straight and upside down to the hip in tape 1; double grab clockwise around 00:47 in this video rather than short grab to forearm in front of chest and then punch over forearm in original video, and so on .
    My question is : how important are these (minute) differences if at all noticeable? Are they upgrades by a newer generation, or was the original tape by Sigung not as clearly explained as here? How should I interpret these videos/differences and how do I go from there? Thank you again for your time and help , Sifu

    • @camartialarts
      @camartialarts  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's a deep question. In short, no, not an upgrade by a newer generation, just a variation on executing the same technique/principle. My analogy is to think of it as a recipe; you can give the same recipe to different chefs and the end result will be different. Our execution is slightly different but the recipe (mantis principles) are the same. This topic will need it's own video. Dankje George!
