Unfortunately the PSP 2000 thumbstick was a classic POS. The design was simply ridiculous. The little silicone four point pad was probably a cool looking idea on paper but obviously a real problem child that caused Sony to go back to a standard ribbon connector. Most, if not all the third party replacements are also very subpar. Like Grandpa said - "after all that there polishing, you still have a turd."
