Great video! I also did a video comparing people who would want a rebel to a sportster and I’m not sure if they’re the same audience. People who generally want a Harley are not people who always look at specs. They generally are going for brand loyalty/history, loud pipes, and that raw motorcycle feel. Either way, I do think Honda knocked it out of the park with this one because it’ll appeal to a lot of people.

They should have taken a leaf out of Kawasaki's book and had it so that the foot pegs can be easily switched to a forward position.

Hell ya man I forgot about that. It totally changes it from mids to forwards and such. I think more companies should be doing something similar.

Great review and comparison. AB USA done a great job also.
I remember when riders owned the rebel, they soon regretted it after approximately 6 months. Kake hated the rebel because it was too small and she wanted her first bike to be something that could she could travel long distances on. So she went with the Honda Shadow Areo 750 as her first bike.
However, I believe that new riders will flock to the Rebel 1100 with pride. Not to mention that you get more bang for your buck with the Rebel, and with Honda's famed reliability , it would be my choice if I was a new rider looking for starter bike. Of course I'm bias to Honda.
    Great Job.

I agree, I think the 1100 might be a little much for a new rider starting out, but maybe not. I think it'll end up being the perfect intermediate bike for someone looking to gradually step up.

Good info and analysis! Is it just me, or does the 1100 tank look bulgy or at a weird upright angle? The Indian Scout Bobber has some great lines! AND, wish you woulda compared the Rebel 1100 to the Triumph Bobber instead of the Scrambler, as the 1100 looks like it would more compete with the Bobber? (plus I want one!!) The new Rebel 11 is THE modern sportster! I was NOT excited at all when this bike was announced but after really looking at it and getting more information I realized that this IS the sporty I love so much brought into the modern era!! I think it’s gonna be a great bike! I really want to try one on! I currently own a sporty and love my bike but this new Rebel 11 is basically a sportster with all the new, modern, features you wish your sporty had!! It should be an absolute blast to ride!!! So basically, in the matter of a couple of hours I have gone from, I don’t care, to, I can’t wait!! Leave it to Honda to make a better sportster than the ones who invented the sportster!? Why Harley? Why is Honda making a better, or at least more modern, sportster then Harley Davidson? I mean Harley should have at least had a sportster “available “ with some of these modern features!! 4 rider modes,(so what?) ok then, how about abs? Standard! Oh yeah and cruise control......standard!! Traction control, standard!! And the best feature of all.....35 degree lean angle!!! Yeah baby!! This bike should absolutely bring the SMOKE!!!

Now one bike I did not include because its still concept is the Harley 1250 Custom thing they have on the website. Once some specs of that get released, it'll be a good competitor, but lets be real, it'll be 4k more than the Honda lol.

My first bike was the Honda shadow 1100. I liked the bike except for the lower gearing which resulted in high RPM's and poor fuel economy and range at highway speeds. My next bike was the Kawasaki vulcan 900. I loved this bike and once I changed out the rear sprocket to lower RPMs at freeway speeds it was great. I have trouble complaining about this bike but if there was a complaint it would probably be the limited lean angle and IMO it was barely adequate in power for me, however I am 6'2 and about 225 lbs. My third bike was the 1700 cc Kawasaki Vulcan Vaquero. I also loved this bike. I loved the power, the 6-speed transmission, cruise control, radio and frame mounted fairing, not sure I will ever be happy with something that doesn't have all of these again. Complaints are minor but I'd again mention the lean angle and the weight. It's a heavy beast. The weight didn't bother me too much since I'm a big guy but occasionally I did want something a little more zippy, light and narrow around town. Fit and finish could have been better since after enough time the plastic fairing seems to loose some of its rigidity and gets squeaky. But mechanically I love Kawasaki's. I'm really looking forward to the rebel 1100, it might be a great bike that can do it all. The other bikes I'd be interested in is the z900rs, the Triumph scout and the triumph.

    • @ChopperFett
      @ChopperFett  3 ปีที่แล้ว

The Z900RS is the bike I'm most interested in right now. I really think it has everything that I want as of now anyway. I think I'd look awkward on it given my frame so I need to shed a few pounds first.

Before the promo video launched, I remember seeing a lot of people talking down on the idea of an 1100 Rebel. I don’t understand the early distaste for the bike because it seems seems like you get a lot of value for your money. Personally, I like the new Rebel and if I were in the market for a cruiser I’d be considering it.
Like you, when I think “Rebel” my mind immediately goes to the 250cc version from the MSF Course I took years ago. When I decided to get back onto a motorcycle again, I toyed around with the idea of a Rebel 500 but ultimately decided to go in a different direction.
I don’t know that the Rebel 1100 and Kawasaki Z900RS are in the same category (Cruiser vs Retro Sport / UJM). I don’t know enough about the Ducati or Triumph to weigh in there but I think the Indian Scout and HD Iron will have some competition with the new Rebel offering.
Nicely done with the video 👍

Also, you can keep those air-cooled bikes.
This new Rebel is gonna eat the competition alive.

Hey brother, first off congrats on the deposit and purchase, you’ll have to do a good review of that dct. As for why I chose the that triumph is because head to head the rebel absolutely kills the t100 and t120! I had to go up in the price bracket to find anything competitive for the Rebel. I do think this bike is going to kill the sales of the sportster as well.

interesting comparison my i say. Ive had my eyes pealed for this bike ever since the rumors of this so call rebel 1100. there are quite a few cool bikes coming out next year this one being the one im most excited for. i currently ride a 2018 mt07 with all the go fast parts and such. i found myself touring and going on long trips quite a lot. this bike with the touring package would check all my boxes for performance, comfortable, and reliability. i dont want a harley. the cost to own for me is a bit much. i want a bike i can thrash on the weekends, take to work, and ride 150mile+ days. just gotta wait for the snow to go away and by then there will be plenty of people who’ve had the opportunity to ride/own one. i also would have expected to see some of the bikes on your list to be compared with the rebel. but its nice to see, metric vs domestic, scramblers vs cafe vs cruiser. they have their similarities but definitely suit a different demographics.

The world of motorcycles is going to be a sad place when the sportster gets discontinued. The key entry bike into the world of Harley Davidson which I love will be missed. Sure it’s not as refined as a Japanese tuned cruiser but does it have the soul and the heritage. People forget that it’s not just a bike they are owning/riding. Lol, no it won't. It will become a much better world. Good riddance!
One of the most overrated bikes still being revered due to "heritage", while costing an arm and a leg when compared to what it offers, which is just noise.
A stock Sportster is pure garbage - the pigs from HD rely on people instantly modding them with aftermarket crap that they sell. Stage 1, Stage 2, Stage blah-blah. Fuck that noise.
Either HD starts learning to offer performance and attributes according to their price range - or they should rightfully kick the bucket and disappear off the market. It should speak volumes that most people buy HDs second-hand and not from the showroom floor.
At least their Softails are still a decent offer. But why in god's name were they so stupid to take after their retarded "OLD SCHOOL ONLY" fanbase and retire the VRod, arguably one of the best and smartest bikes they've made?!

Overall I appreciate SMART business moves, from companies that don't have their heads so much up their own ass that they're disconnected from reality.
And yes, I consider the Rebel 1100 quite a very smart move from Honda, given its price range, performance and attributes, even the DCT which will hopefully encourage people that dislike or are afraid of manual transmissions to get on a bike.
P.S.: Btw, it is one of my life's goals to own a HD, ideally an older Fat Boy. And as I said, I consider the V-Rod one of their best moves and smartest designs ever, too bad it was dragged down by imbecile thick-headed fanboys saying "that's not a real Harley".

I'm the opposite. I would much rather do 10 minutes of chain maintenance now and then, as opposed to the ridiculous amount of power loss you get on a belt drive. Add to that the belt will still cup and wear, and need to be replaced MORE than a properly maintained chain. The only low maintenance option is a shaft drive, but then again, power loss as compared to a chain is high.

    Matthew 5:2-48
[2]And he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying,
[3]Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
[4]Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.
[5]Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.
[6]Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.
[7]Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.
[8]Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.
[9]Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.
[10]Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
[11]Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.
[12]Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.
[13]Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.
[14]Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.
[15]Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.
[16]Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
[17]Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.
[18]For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.
[19]Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
[20]For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.
[21]Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment:
[22]But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire.
    [23]Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath ought against thee;
[24]Leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift.
[25]Agree with thine adversary quickly, whiles thou art in the way with him; lest at any time the adversary deliver thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and thou be cast into prison.
[26]Verily I say unto thee, Thou shalt by no means come out thence, till thou hast paid the uttermost farthing.
[27]Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery:
[28]But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.
[29]And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.
[30]And if thy right hand offend thee, cut it off, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.
[31]It hath been said, Whosoever shall put away his wife, let him give her a writing of divorcement:
[32]But I say unto you, That whosoever shall put away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, causeth her to commit adultery: and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced committeth adultery.
[33]Again, ye have heard that it hath been said by them of old time, Thou shalt not forswear thyself, but shalt perform unto the Lord thine oaths:
[34]But I say unto you, Swear not at all; neither by heaven; for it is God's throne:
[35]Nor by the earth; for it is his footstool: neither by Jerusalem; for it is the city of the great King.
[36]Neither shalt thou swear by thy head, because thou canst not make one hair white or black.
[37]But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil.
[38]Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth:
[39]But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.
[40]And if any man will sue thee at the law, and take away thy coat, let him have thy cloke also.
[41]And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him twain.
[42]Give to him that asketh thee, and from him that would borrow of thee turn not thou away.
[43]Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy.
    [44]But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;
[45]That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.
[46]For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same?
[47]And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not even the publicans so?
[48]Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect...
