Wheat Garlic Naan - No OVEN, No YEAST, No MAIDA, Using TAWA

  • Today we have for you, Restaurant Style Tandoori Naan made without Maida, Yeast or Oven. It has mininal ingredients and is a super quick recipe that can be served with almost every gravy sabzi or non-veg dish.

    Let's learn how to make this:
    Take 1.5 cup wheat
    1/2 cup curd
    1 tsp salt
    1 tsp powered sugar
    1/2 tsp baking powder
    1/4 tsp baking soda
    make a dough with a room temperature water or warm water and keep adding little oil
    Keep it for rest around 10-15minutes
    Take black sesame seeds(kalaunji), coriander, and garlic finely chopped or grated
    You might notice that the dough has risen. Make small balls and make it in an oval shaped roti and stick the kalaunji, garlic and coriander leaves.
    Add a lot of water on the other side and then put it on pre-heated tawa until it rises. Flip the pan and cook on the other side as shown in video'
    Add Butter on the top

      Kajal Matlani first do it on nonstick ya a, then You can do it on Roti grill which we use for Roti/phulka

    Tried today. Came out really well. I however did not do the reverse tawa thing. Instead roasted the top side of naan with the help of tongs (chimta) directly on flame. It was much easier n faster. Good recipe. Keep it up!!

    Shakera ji, very nice video, except one thing...please avoid keeping any food directly in to the flame, its a petroleum by product, contains deadliest chemicals, as the name implies, liquid petroleum gas..i care about you, live healthy..live long (100 years)

    I have tried a similar one with white flour which came out good. I don’t have gas, I have a flat glass range. What can I do to get a similar naan ? I can try just cooking like a chapati but I would like to get a naan look and taste. Thanks.

      U can try with candle flame after cooking it fully, to get the burnt feel

      You might have made it on a non stick tawa. Same happened with me. Don't lose heart, I just baked the other side on the tawa for some time after turning the naan on other side. It turned out to be wonderful. Even the black carom seeds etc will also not burn. Try it.

      I'll just make it easy for you as you can't understand Hindi, the language she's speaking in.
      She first added 1 and 1/2 cups of whole wheat flour. She then added 1/2 cup of curd, 1/2 tsp (tablespoon) salt, 1/2 tsp powdered sugar, 1/2 tsp baking powder, 1/4 tsp baking soda (this is optional because you are already adding baking powder).
      Make a dough out of water (you can also make a dough out of milk, it is up to you). You also have to add oil during the process of making a dough, not too much, just about 2 tsp. Keep the dough to rest for about 10-15 minutes.
      Next, you have to take some nigella seeds, coriander leaves and garlic pods. You can crush the garlic pods but she recommends to grate them. She also says you can add grated garlic pods in the dough you made if you exclusively want to make a garlic naan.
      Sprinkle some whole wheat flour on the rolling board the make portions out of the dough and roll them. She says she's rolling the dough in an oval shape so it appears like the type of naan you get in a restaurant.
      She then adds the coriander leaves, nigella seeds and the grated garlic pods. She says you can avoid adding the leaves, seeds and garlic if you just want to make a simple naan. She also tells you to roll the dough after adding the things so they stick nicely and don't fall off while turning the iron skillet upside down. Now, turn the naan and apply water on the back side generously so that it sticks nicely on the iron skillet.
      Place the naan on the iron skillet and wait for bubbles to appear. When you see that the bubbles have risen well, turn the skillet upside down and rotate it over the fire so that it cooks well on both sides just like they do on a tandoor.
      Apply some butter on the naan after taking it out and enjoy. 😀😁😊
