  • There are 9 things I wish I knew when I started losing weight and burning fat. These are the top weight loss mistakes and muscle building mistakes that people make. Make sure you avoid them to save time.

    Growing up I always had excess body fat, and in the process of getting rid of it I made a lot of mistakes and learned a lot of lessons. That's why I want to save you from having to go through the seemingly endless trial and error that I went through by giving you the top 9 things I wish I knew when I first started dieting and burning fat.
    And the first thing is that there are many diet foods and supposedly healthy foods that are actually high in calories and can easily prevent fat loss. It's a common misconception that if a food is labeled as "diet" or "healthy," it must be good for fat loss. However, this couldn't be further from the truth. There are many deceptive foods out there. For example most people think that nuts are great for fat loss, but they're actually very calorically dense, mostly made up of carbohydrates and fats, and it'll take a lot of them to fill your stomach.
    Many people on a diet overeat them and they don't understand why they're not losing weight. Then there's yogurt which can be fine if you add your own fruit, but if you get yogurt with fruit at the bottom, directly from the store there's a ton of added sugar. Salads can help you burn a lot of fat, but when drenched in creamy dressings like ranch or Caesar, they can become high in calories and unhealthy fats.
    Veggie chips might seem like a healthier alternative to potato chips, but they're still fried and coated in oil, making them calorie-dense and not good for fat loss. Granola bars, also, can pack a lot of calories, especially when they contain chocolate chips, dried fruits, or honey. Another example is vegan. Just because something is labeled as vegan doesn't mean it's not packed full of excess calories, carbohydrates, and preservatives. In fact, some vegan-certified options are horrible for fat loss. So the lesson here is that reading nutrition labels, choosing whole foods over processed ones, and being aware of hidden sources of calories in so-called "diet" foods, are all crucial steps to burning fat. Don't assume something will help with fat loss just because its labeled, low fat, low carb, organic, diet, or natural.
    The next concept that I wish I knew was that most supplements are not going to help with fat loss, and at best will act as a cherry on top of an already solid diet and workout program. Fat burners are one of the most profitable and oversold supplements, but they won't do much if you're not already maintaining a calorie deficit. Sure some good fat burners can very slightly speed up the process, but many people don't feel good taking fat burners because of the typical stimulant effects, and if that's the case for you they're not worth taking. Then there's creatine, which can give you some energy to lift heavier and train harder, but it's not going to help you burn all that much extra fat. Protein powder is great, if you struggle to take in enough protein throughout the day. If it helps you fufill your protein requirements it'll also help you retain muscle while you cut which can help you maintain a slightly more elevated metabolism. But protein doesn't have any direct fat loss benefits, and if you can get enough protein from your diet, it's unnecessary to drink protein shakes. In fact it'll only add extra calories.
    And then there are all kinds of carb and calorie blockers that are supposed to somehow minimize fat storage after eating a meal, but these don't actually work. The lesson here is to focus on your diet and workout program to see the fastest results.
    Another thing that I wish I knew before spending countless hours meal prepping and stressing about eating protein every couple hours, is that you don't have to eat 5 to 6 small meals a day to burn fat. You can actually eat far fewer times, like once or twice. This concept is often referred to as intermittent fasting, and it's basically debunked the traditional idea of frequent meals being necessary to boost your metabolism. Your metabolism will not slow down if you skip some meals and you won't lose muscle if you don't take in protein every couple hours. People that are able to stick to a plan better by eating 5 times a day, should do that, but the same goes vice versa. one, two, and three meals a day can all work just fine as long as your totals balance out.
    And that's actually something else that I wish I had known a long time ago. Burning fat is not about creating a deficit every day but rather about creating a deficit overtime. Here's what I mean. Pretend that for your body to be in a calorie deficit you have to eat an average of lets say 2000 calories a day just to keep it simple. You can eat an even 2,000 calories everyday, which..

    I was 160kg (29yr/185cm) beginning of April this year. Now, 6 months later, I am at 117kg hopefully finishing a year at 100kg. I tried to lose weight several times in the past and I gave up every time, thinking about it now I concluded it was mostly due to the foods I was eating (too much cutting / not enough protein). Having 2 really hard times after I got covid messed me up additionally and I reached my peak at 160kg this year when I said its enough.
    First 2 1/2 months I lost 12kgs just by increasing daily water intake (from 2-3l to 4l give or take), walking almost every day for few thousand steps, like 5k,6k sometimes and playing table tennis once or twice a week.
    For the next 3 1/2 months I started implementing Intermittent fasting (in my case I dont eat from 5pm to 9am), going to gym to do weight lifting 3,4 times a week + 2 cardio sessions, so all in all im in gym 5,6 times a week, from 90-120 min each day, still playing table tennis 3-4 times a week and I increased water intake to 5-6l per day as i get rly thirsty during workouts and any kind of harder physical activity. I also increased daily step count up to 30k times, generally around 20-22k on a daily basis. As regards to my calories intake, and foods im eating, I gave up sweets and soda. I still eat pizza (which is my fav meal) and burger occassionaly, like few times a month. I make sure to have enough protein, minimum 150g per day, going up to 250g on some days. All in all, i feel much better, healthier, stronger, can fit in lots of clothes.
    My advice to anyone trying to lose serious amount of weight is not to try to change everything all at once. Weight/fat loss is a long journey and it has to be done in steps for many of us, so if you are used to being sedentary dont try to walk 10k steps all of a sudden. go 2-3k at first and increase gradually.. If you are eating lots of "unhealthy" food, try to gradually change that.

    So far this is what helped me lose 4 pounds so far:
    1. Drinking lots of water (For me its 3Litres)
    2. Strength Training regime i can stick to at home
    3. Eat filling foods like fruits as snacks. Single ingredient food works best.
    4. Eat what can be finished
    5. Learn how to say no to eating someone's leftovers. (It's difficult but possible)
    6. Get adequate amount of sleep
    7. Eat foods that increase metabolism. Such as coffee, meat, green tea.

    Good info man!! Over a year ago I started my workout plan to drop down to about 190-200 lbs, (I am currently about 223lbs right now) and when I started, about 2 months into my workout I had slipped two discs in my lower back and was out for like, give or take a month and a half, recovering up, then developed sciatic nerve pain from the discs 😅 needless to say I am back to give it another go man!! Recovered enough to comfortably go out and weight train without being in pain! For work, I am a Concrete Finisher and hand trowel slabs, so sometimes I’m a little too sore or tired to hit a work out on days but right now, I try to go at least 4 days a week hitting all the muscle groups I can while still being able to move around the next day to work 😅 without over training. It’s a process but I’m trusting it, also am working really hard on trying to fit the right diet for me, trying to find something that keeps me energized and properly fueled for my long work days! Any tips would be appreciated by absolutely anyone! Thanks💪🏼

      Hi. I do coaching for sales and business ownership. You cannot stay motivated. That’s where discipline comes in. If you are serious about your goals, you have to find a plan, and stick to it regardless of how you feel. Being serious is the important part. Really think about it and know that being serious will include a long term plan that will have trade offs. Also find an accountability partner. Hope that helps! ❤️

      Grab a friend and set a goal. I was in the same boat too. I got to the bottom of a cut, best form I’ve been in, I surpassed my goal and looked great. I got a new job, had to adapt to new routines. I gained a lot of fat and lost muscle over a few months, became unmotivated despite how much I wanted to reach my old form again. It got to the point where even walking up some stairs was hurting my knees. @whoknows8223 recommended looking at old pics. Yeah that may help, but it doesn’t work for everyone. For me, it just reminded me I could get there again, but I still wasn’t motivated enough. Here’s the important part though. My S.O was going through the same thing. We talked about how much we’ve let ourselves go, questioning what happened, what motivated us back then and we found out that our motivation was always something that was going to happen on a certain date (vacation, celebration, holiday). We wanted to eat with no regards to health and not feel bad so we’d be motivated like hell looking forwards to it. So she came up with another motivator. We’re both going to lose as much weight as we can before our next celebration. It’s been a wonderful motivation and I’m back in it full force! Do it with a friend! If you’ve got no friends, do it with a family member. If you’ve got no family members then do it yourself. Think about something upcoming in the future. A celebration, a vacation, even visiting family members. Earn that feast, those lazy days, or just impress your cousins and uncles with your gains. With a clear date, you can no longer say “I’ll start next week” that week is another 7 days closer to your goal date. You got this!

      Best of luck! It is not an easy journey that you are embarking on - I know it as I went through it 4 years ago to loose 55 pounds. Note a few things: you will loose fat of course, but also water and muscles; and weight loss is not linear: some day you loose weight, some days you do not or you gain a bit -- what matters is the trend over an extended period. Make sure also that you eat enough proteins (meaning not too much too as that would be wasted) to slow down lean muscle mass loss. As far as I am concerned, there was a time when my weight loss was 66 pounds. I decided to regain about 10 pounds of lean muscle mass (hence the total of 55 pounds of mass loss over four years). Another piece of advice if I may: do not stick to a 12-week plan; make your new lifestyle such that your diet becomes your new natural norm. Weight management is a long-term endeavor. All the best!

    At 46 years old, 5'7", 215lbs I was been able to get to 165lbs and pretty lean by 48. First through intermittent fasting and then back to 4-5 meals per day. I intentionally went back up to 190 on an incredibly stupid dirty bulk last January. I felt like I could add muscle no problem and dealing with the extra fat would be hard but doable. Wrong on so many levels. I'm back down to 167lbs but it took me about 6 months because I wanted to do it slowly and correctly. I reduced my calories by 500 or so until I did my hardest cut going from 2800 calories in January to 1300 calories in June. I'm going to start bulking again but this time do it right. No more dirty bulks, going to diet break and cheat smartly, get myself to 190 eventually at 15% bf, at least that's the goal. I know this will probably take me years unless I start TRT, and I have no plans to do that.
    Long story short, I would not be where I am now without people like you. Wading through the BS on YT and finding people who are giving good, accurate advice is pretty hard. But video's like this are what has helped me the most. So thank you for putting out high quality content, appreciate it.

    I wish you would have mentioned the role of Insulin more. Insulin is not only the FAT STORING hormone which store excessive sugar, but it also HINDERS your body to burn his own stored bodyfat as energy while it is in your bloodstream.
    It is crucial. That is why people lose so much bodyfat by doing OMAD.
    Focus on keeping it as low as possible most of the time. There are foods that trigger it way more (carbs thats why low-/ no carb works so well) than others. Even the order of eating your food matters (first meat and veggis then only carbs like potatoe and rice increases insulin less than first carbs then the other...)

Since I increased cardio I haven’t lost any muscle, lost more weight, became much fitter and my metabolism increased. Then I discovered that cardio increases your metabolism much quicker than weight training. I still weight train and I really like it but i'm not compromising my heart health just to get bigger muscles!

    This video has really interesting information.
    I liked the tip about consuming a varying calorie amount during the week yet still reaching a calorie goal.
    I think:

    bodyweight workouts are better than weightlifting for athletes;
    the bodyweight that weightlifters gain can affect their athletic performance;

    bodyweight workouts are safer than weightlifting;
    weightlifting burns more calories than body weight workouts;

    Stress on the body from working out hard every day and cutting calories severely can be detrimental. Work smarter. Not harder. If you have to work out hard constantly because you're competing in a sport or two, you should be eating more, eating protein, lots of it, but still at a deficit.

    I admit, got a bit confused the other day, because I'm up to 8.5% body fat, and still feel I'm not close... Wasn't it 10%, am I wrong, or does it vary that much from person to person?

    one big problem, when you want to lose weight with too much strength training is, that you maybe get too bulky 🤔
    i started in february with training at the gym, mainly to lose fat and weight.
    at the moment the scale shows no more weight loss, of course the proportion is much much better now but i'm still at 81-83kg, started from 85-88.
    the goal is to get lighter for less strain for the joints for a better feeling while running 🤷‍♂
    so it looks like, i have to lose weight in the kitchen 🤣 hardest part ever! i love good food

      Damn dude I'm in the same boat. My theory here is that the body is just too well adapted to the current diet and too efficient at managing energy. The only thing that might help me through this is to shock the system by completely changing some routines in a way that I can consistently maintain for a long period of time.
      I've found that I can easily skip eating entirely on days I strength train, for some reason hunger just doesn't kick in, whereas on days I don't work out, I'm always craving food. So I'm planning to have 2 strength training days where I eat absolutely nothing and take zero calories, followed by 2 rest days where I eat as much protein as I can. So 72 hr fasting windows. Will see how it turns out, fingers crossed.
      In general, I have seen that changing up your routine and diet can help break a plateau, so I'd suggest trying something out with what/when you eat and your exercise routines to see how they affect you.

    So, is 2,000 kcal per day or 14,000 kcal per week the standard?

    • @kirankishore9934
      @kirankishore9934 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Standard for an average person I think. Better to talk to your health care professional if you are just starting the journey. Eating HEALTHY calories for your daily need of the calories is one of the best things to do for your health. Exercise, Strength Training, Meditation all help as well.

    Hi guys, I was 95kg when I started going to gym and now it’s been a month after doing inbody scan machine every week I noticed that my body fat is decreasing greatly and my muscles mass is increasing also good( -3kg of body fat mass dropped 3% of body fat) and my shirt is starting to get loosen but I still weight 94.5kg is this a good progression? Or should I do more cardio because I mainly focus on weight training and do intermittent fasting

    • @koczy666
      @koczy666 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      - 3 kg of FAT in a month is a great progress! It's not about loosing overall mass on a scale, but it's a about loosing as much fat as you can without loosing your muscle mass (fat free mass) or even increasing it. You're doing a great job so far, so keep it up.

    I got a meal plan done by a dietitian with a masters degree. I am having 30g of nuts a day + tablespoon of nut butter+ up to 30ml of extra virgin olive oil + up to 2 slices of bread per day . I can also have a row of dark chocolate every day + 2 pieces of fruit and a glass of vine 2 times a week. It’s mainly a Mediterranean diet with whole foods. I am loosing 1kg a week. So far I have lost 8kg . Don’t listen to all this advice from internet charlatans not to eat fat or nuts, particularly if you are a menopausal woman. Get professional advice and a programme which is tailor made for you and your requirements

    Also you should avoid cutting if your skinny fat, High Fat % very low muscle mass. You will only become more skinner, Bulking is also not the way to go, You are already at ahigh % of fat with very low muscle. The best way is to do body recomp. Lose fat and build muscle at the same time.

    Lifting heavy in your 50's will only destroy your joints even further so I'm sorry, lighter with more volume is optimal, I agree with MOST things on your channel but me pressing 120lb's is not realistic (As I used to do even in my 40's), HITT sprinting and intermittent fasting works wonders for me, one size does not fit all.

    As with many of these videos there is a lot of waffle. - it's quite easy really, don't buy processed foods of any type. Eat fresh vegetables. If you don't know how to cook, then learn, it's fun and interesting. Eat fresh fruit and if you eat meat, then nothing processed. In terms of carbs, most vegetables where you eat the underground part (potatoes/turnips/carrots etc) are high's carbs (but at least good ones) and anything overground is low carb. (generally)
