Like, for real though! If the average woman, or even the less than average woman had this kind of over-the-top reaction to what amounts to the most fundamental kindness from others, the human race would be doomed, and likely would have become extinct long before we developed rudimentary hand tools.

Yeah man, I don't meet the criteria for BPD but I definitely have a bunch of borderline tendencies (so I'm basically borderline borderline 😂) and I've known many pregnant mentally unwell people in my life cause y'all are my people, I've got CPTSD.
I don't know anyone in the world who would do that, pregnancy hormones or not. It's insane and her logic in her reasoning is inconsistent. I can't really understand the psychology on this one! Something going on there, tho. For sure.
The entitlement she displayed is quite appalling...I would have probably responded by refusing because it was too generous (but secretly hoping they insist, of course lol).

i'm actually wondering a bit if there's more to her situation. pregnancy fucks with your emotional regulation a lot, but (as daniel put it so succinctly) being pregnant doesn't turn you into Lucifer. i don't have much personal experience with it specifically, but as someone who experiences a lot of other Lady-Bit Associated Hormones and has issues with emotional regulation, there is no way i can view her reaction as normal. however... there are a lot of post-partem mental illnesses that someone can experience that practically turns them into a different person. these conditions suck a lot because they often get excused as "hormones" and the people experiencing them never consider that they might be abnormal, or that they are deserving of treatment to ease the symptoms. thus their life never gets better and people learn to stay away. misogyny in medicine.
if OP truly believed in his wife's character and was completely shocked by her outburst, i'd advise him to consider that she might be dealing with some really rough shit under the hood. maybe even consider a psychological evaluation or therapy. nothing could excuse it, but something might be able to _explain_ it and tackling that cause might make her and her husband's life much better.

Their spouse, an existing kid, a longtime pet, a random coworker. Usually once the kid is born their hormones will even out and their feelings will return back to normal, but it doesn't excuse or undo the damage they cause when in that hormonal state, and I couldn't say if that's even what happened here. Obviously the risk is much higher for people who DO have the markers, but it’s not impossible for an outside force to trigger it. Just really rare. My first pregnancy was a hellfire… I was totally out of my mind which was really unexpected because yes, I had depression at some point in my life and have also suffered from autistic burnout but that was not while being pregnant. Despite that I was going crazy in my first pregnancy, my reality was warped and my hormones were all over the place - the whole nine months! And the second trimester was the worst to be honest.
So speak just for yourself please. Every pregnancy and every human is different and situations can be experienced different, because bodies are different.
The only thing that is that she didn’t communicate why she lashed out like that, that she didn’t try to talk with her husband at all about what happened… and then didn’t want to apologize and run after him but instead told her husband to run after G. That is wrong. She may be ashamed of her behavior but she is not taking responsibility for it at all and that is the concerning part…

Pregnancy can make you moody. It can also make you psychotic, and assuming she has never been anything but pleasant and kind before, that’s what this is: psychosis. She’s actively hurting herself and her family, not unlike cutting herself or engaging in other risky behavior. If she was lashing out in a more tangible way, no one would question that something is psychologically wrong, but because “pregnant women be moody,” this sort of behavior gets written off and overlooked until something _really_ bad happens. She needs to see her doctor immediately.
That or she’s actually not a nice person, and just a classic abuser. You know how abusers are, waiting until you move in together, or get married, or have a kid; waiting until the other person feels trapped.

Yeah this sounds like some sort of mental health episode. This was beyond the range of someone who's thinking rationally, hormones or no hormones. The fact that the husband was so stunned means this was not characteristic of her at all. She herself seemed shocked by her own behavior afterwards. She didn't sound unapologetic, just completely desperate and confused. She couldn't give a reason for her outburst. I suspect she can't even explain it to herself even if she still believes the emotions she was feeling then.

Like if you hear a story about a puppy that got killed you might bawl your eyes out like it was your own pet instead of just a sad story... So there is something behind it for sure. And on a related note: for the sex havers out there, please, _please, _*_please use protection,_* or just don't be intimate in a way that allows for pregnancy without also being ready to raise a child.
I'm asexual and don't ever see myself being intimate, much less having a child, so I know I am biased by saying 'just don't have sex'... But for real, unless you've taken other measures to prevent conception, know that you're always running a risk.

My sister vehemently hated my brother during one of her pregnancies. The mood switches can be insane and it can change a person's personality. One of my sister in-laws turned from sweetheart to unhinged for her last trimester. The nurses and doctors my family members have had say it can be due to hormonal fluctuations, nutrient deficiencies, or due to the pressure the baby is creating on the mom from the inside. It is truly a very frustrating situation, I hope that OP and his wife can work things out with their amazing landlord. Therapy and a doctor's visit for the wife is needed asap, because if the wife's changes are due to pressure etc. it can cause complications in the pregnancy.

I’ve had two kids. If she just lashed out for no reason there’s something else going on she MIGHT not notice. Really hope she is in therapy it sounds like the start of postpartum depression OR her pregnancy is bringing up undiagnosed mental conditions she wasn’t aware of. I’ve been there. But if she doesn’t understand this of course she can’t verbally explain which can cause someone to get upset when they can’t express the emotions. You really don’t truly know yourself until you learn how your brain works.
ETA TLDR; op is AH for ignorance at beginning(NOTICE I MENTION AT THE BEGINNING, NOT AS A WHOLE), needs more understanding. Wife is also AH and needs to understand this is a potential warning of an undiagnosed mental condition. Therapy is definitely a useful tool that needs used here is main point of my comment. Landlord sounds pretty cool and understanding more than OP.
Another edit: I definitely am not saying she isn’t in the wrong but to use this as motivation to understand she has to go to therapy. Whatever she is going through will only get worse if she doesn’t do something about it!

However I don't think he set her aside. He gave her time to prepare so they could have a discussion about what happened, and largely depending on how that discussion goes changes if I think he was just a rude person in that moment or more of an a-hole all around.
However despite the hormones, pregnancy doesn't excuse you from being a manipulative a-hole. She acted like a complete a-hole, and I can excuse that part for hormones (maybe some others that understand them more might not, but I don't really understand how hormones affect people that much, so I will give her the benefit of the doubt). However desperately calling him and trying to not face the consequences of her actions makes me feel icky about her. G was a good friend of their's it seems, and it looks to me she cared more about the discounts that they got rather than about G by the conduct she had. If she cared about him I think she should apologize for blowing up at him, accept the terms he laid out/reject them and look for a new place to stay, and then state that hopefully in time they can still be friends again.

Only in my 1st pregnancy did I have wacky hormones that made me really mean to my husband, randomly, for a couple of weeks…and I had to apologize all the time because I felt so bad for being so grouchy.
It was literally like I wasn’t myself.
But then it passed. It was really frustrating.

I have done a bit of pregnancy and birth (4 kids, 3 pregnancies).
One time I cried when my husband went out and didn’t buy me food (I didn’t ask him to 🫠), another time I put our cellotape in the bathroom cupboard and kinda blamed him, no screaming at anyone ever. Just a bunch of crying over nothing (I am autistic and have other mental health issues).
Since living in our house, I’ve become disabled, the severity of our twins’ disabilities has become clearer (very high support needs) - every year our landlord tries to increase rent by £200. We get him down to £100 (it’s become a yearly fun dance we do). Once he told us we have too many shoes, that was weird.
That poor dude, they met a unicorn of a landlord, and someone who could have been a great friend. That’ll never happen again

There has been a proven phenomenon where pregnant women suddenly, and inexplicably, gain a strong hatred for a person or animal. They act cruel and aggressive towards them, but after are normal and feel horrendous for how they were. In almost all cases it is talked about like an out of body experience "I don't know what came over me. I knew it was wrong but I was powerless to stop myself". I think OP needs to take his wife to a doctor to ensure she is ok if this outburst is truly not like her.

i have a explanation for story two! although I've never had children yet, a increased level of hormones like progesterone and estrogen can cause a decrease in emotional regulation due to constant fatigue and mental exhaust that a first child can put on your body, it's not the same for everyone but i believe she had a moment where sensibility went out the window and was thinking in the moment, in no way you should blow up like that OR blame it on you being pregnant its just a explanation for her behavior, little bit of therapy never hurt for communication!

I’ve had three babies, and pregnancy was me at my most chill and happy every time. Now, a week or two after each baby was born and I was running on little to no sleep and hormones off the charts… I was a wreck, but I still wouldn’t have lashed out at any gifts, I would have likely hysterically cried out of gratitude, but that’s all. That story was weird.

I've never been pregnant but I am a woman who's been through many periods and that woman is just nuts.
You emotions as a pregnant woman/on your period are not "uncontrollable" their just harder to control.
The best example I can think of is:
Imagine your emotions are like someone pushing you and for 3 weeks
when you feel sad - push
    You feel happy - push
    You feel mad - push
Very easily controllable depending on what made you feel those feelings
Suddenly, one day you see something that makes you sad and you're bracing for a push and you get hit by a bus.
Your still in control over your emotions but it's just harder to fight them back.
I've had a shorter temper to people being annoying/rude but I've never yelled at someone for being kind...
Which leads me to believe, she's just a horrible human being.
