hey gang - for real, if you have any suggestions for things to free-ify drop them below. of course not ridiculous things like remaking all of hardops - moreso one-offs! you can learn more and we talk about face fulling for this depth thing here: www.cgmatter.com/member/autodepth (also on patreon but i am trying to pivot from that)
I do feel like selling an open source model in a blender plugin which does kind of not much, and making it paid (emphasis on this), is just kind of taking advantage of others
like i don't know for sure - maybe they made their own - but regardless couldn't hurt to just link the github at the bottom - 99.9% of people won't bother to look into it anyhow
@@DefaultCube unfortunately it's not required for models with Apache 2.0 licenses. Making your own AI depth estimator would require so much work though. It's possible but at the same time you've got better ai models that you can use for $0 in your commercial product.
You could probably say that about many open source (or freely-available) libraries, models, APIs, or tools used to create a paid plugin. The plugin might still have some utility to people if it provides a good integration with Blender-- but I do think creators should note which key models, libraries, or APIs are used in their products. Just like if someone were to create a GIS data plugin, it would mention whether it's using OpenStreetMaps or Google Maps, etc. All that being said -- it looks like the AutoDepth AI plugin ships off your image data to a remote server to do the processing and people seem to report it's pretty slow, and it requires you to run Blender with administrative privileges... which shouldn't be necessary. It looks like the creator is paying for (or using some CPU free tier) cloud compute capacity according to his YT comments, so as soon as they stop doing that, the plugin will likely cease to function. Their plugin panel UI looks decent at least...
I bought that plugin the day it was released. I had some problems getting it to work, but got no response from the developer. I'm glad I spent less than $10 on it.
This one in particular seems to be a perfect pair for that video you did on parallax mapping a few months ago, since we could very much parallax this per pixel instead of true vertex dispalcement to get better quality (And presumably better performance, since we will literaly only have four vertex)
You can also do a way better version of this using the Depth extension for SD A1111 which can easily generate an inpainted mesh with deformation based outward from the camera POV rather than just being a flat extrusion, you should really check it out, it's pretty cool how much better it is for most things though it does tend to get a bit messy of a mesh
Very nice video idea indeed :) Love the intro, blasting away them money earners. I guess this would have been harder to do in older versions of Blender.
Well i don't blame the creator for anything there was demand and he just supply and make some bucks and people only realizing this because he made a good amount of money which can be done for free!!! and probably the people are new in the blender using this addon!
the goat himslef is exposing people 😂 I remember when a guy was mad just because he teach us how to do seomthing he was selling with geometry nodes I bet guy wasn't even using the same node tree
I think this is a good idea for a series, but I would advise to be less confrontational, because the addons value is in the time savings not about technical fidelity. Whether $8 is a fair price will vary customer to customer. Would love to see more free alternatives, and free workflows.
Exactly, that's the only thing I felt weird about in this video. There's probably a reason that addon is sold a quite bunch. I had a client who wanted this exact kind of plugin to make parallax videos out of still images from AI. And btw this is exactly how i'm planning to go forward in the future; showing how to make a particular texture/model/effect on TH-cam and selling it in case someone wants to save time and buy it instead. Everyone's happy!
I actually want a tutorial on making blender plugins. I know there’s some simple ones out there, but I wouldn’t even know where to start with something more advanced like integrating an AI model, even if someone else already built it.
Is it possible to do this and not have it try to connect the closer items to the further away ones? Or would someone doing this then need to edit the mesh to cut those connections so it's not streaking on the sides?
While I know this is an AI model to create a depth map, a lot of phones that also use LiDAR and save the depth map of the shot which in some cases can be extracted which is super nice, I know some tutorials exist to extract them.
Ai render addon is pretty cool to mess around with. It's not paid and I wish it was just so you could make a video about it lol. It just feels like it could be done another way especially animation. Even more especially is running stable diffusion locally because it was super complex. I would urge you to test it out
It reminds me of the relight effect in the paid version of Resolve/Fusion. With that you can add lighting and shadows to video. I suppose you could do the same with this - but frame by frame.

"free-ify" being "I give you my free time for free!"...
It's good and all, but keep your free time balanced! 🫡
Always wondered about One Click Damage, and similar addons. How hard could it honestly be?
@@Grefins999 already have ocd in the scopes ;)
@@CGMatter blud didn't you already make your own product similar to that. free-ifying your own products is crazy
thank you and this is a great idea for a series!

thank you mister blender person
That's my kind of series! Love it!
This series is the way. You hit the nail on the head for sustainable, unique, and helpful content. Please keep them coming!
This might be my new favorite series
Mine too, I love it 🇵🇸🇵🇸
The hero we don't deserve.
This idea must be good because I don't even use Blender and it was suggested to me. Plus, I watched the whole thing.
I bought that plugin the day it was released. I had some problems getting it to work, but got no response from the developer. I'm glad I spent less than $10 on it.
Perfect! Was looking for this exactly! Hope to see more in the series!
For this series, you just got my Sub ! Keep them coming!
Real king. Thank you so much for sharing this!
I got to work on some serious shit because years ago I took the step to learn blender from your channel. Thankyou good sir
This is a bold move! hope you can handle the suggestions in the future! this is pure gold content, problem solving and saving money in the same video!
I like this series😂
this is such a fire series idea
i love this. keep it coming cube
this series will pop off its amazing
your upload is always amazing. you really help me learning blender. i know this sentence won't worth much but still thank you sir
thank you for your likeness sculpting technique it helps too much for my startup animation studio. thank you keep it up

I am new to blender and you blew my mind
❤ did anyone told you I love you
For what you are doing on this TH-cam channel, Because I did
would binge watch 1000 of these
*starts sweating*... New series sounds great! We chill? 👀
😁
Great addons!
I love this series!
this is fantastic, thank you
I love that idea for the series!
this is why I subscribe
You’re an absolute legend tq
I’m here for the Robin Hood vibes

Amazing series!!!
Alr alr alr ,this is fire ,more ,we need moreee
Commenting for the algo , this is good stuff.
THX MAN.. Love whats you doo:)
Very good idea for a series!
THIS IS AWESOME! Such a cool idea because some of these addon creators are taking the mickey! keeping us free of scammers!
Thank you! Do Facebuilder next :-)
Well i don't blame the creator for anything there was demand and he just supply and make some bucks and people only realizing this because he made a good amount of money which can be done for free!!! and probably the people are new in the blender using this addon!
It’s not too difficult to rephrase this as saying “Blender Procedural took advantage of new blender users for money”
My hero
this is a GREAT idea for a series! you'll have to fend off the blendermarket sent assassins tho lol. may heaven protect you.
Thank you! Just what I was looking for 🙏
Now to find a way for this to use multiple sources that’s temporarily stable 😅 this would be great to project footage back on to geometry
depth anything v2 is current state of the art
“Don’t buy the addon, give me money”. Good one dude!! Still appreciate the vid. Keep them coming and relive me from the addon-porn.
do it for free is my motto, definitely a good series idea
Now he has released the plugin "Auto Painter Ai", it would be nice if you could make a tutorial to do something similar but for free 😌
Nice, thank you!!
Very good video and bust uncovering :)
thank you
How do you make a blender plugin that runs a depth estimation program like this? Can you include other python libraries in a plugin?
U buy the plugin
I would LOVVVVE to learn how to do some of director chris cunninghams techniques from the 90s!!
Thank you very much
this is fire
Cool stuff! Is there a similar model that can generate heightmaps from satellite imagery?
Realy XD I thought his AI corrects a little bit, at least makes the objects whole and not just a blunt
extrusion))) Thank you
We want to see more videos like this
i like the idea
Great idea!
Love this idea for a series heheh :)
Thanks!
Amazing!
Thank you so much for the amazing tutorial!~ Let's keep Blender free and avaliable for everyone~
I also found, that using depth map with displace modifier then Quad remesher sub serf and repeat worked really well with a car engine
That's sick! Hey if you do it with the modifier you could use this as like a speed hack for modelling maybe
the goat himslef is exposing people 😂 I remember when a guy was mad just because he teach us how to do seomthing he was selling with geometry nodes I bet guy wasn't even using the same node tree
i have been using midas . thats cool thanks
Woah thanks.

Have you tried depth anything? I feel its better than marigold but im not sure
Almost positive Davinci Resolve has this in its free version as well
what mouse are you using with mac?
this is neat
good for lazy VFX work tho :)
Do you make tutorials on how to code your own blender addons?
It reminds me of the relight effect in the paid version of Resolve/Fusion. With that you can add lighting and shadows to video. I suppose you could do the same with this - but frame by frame.
thanks man! i was wondering how to do this a few months back
thats whats up! hell yea
Please make this a series i feel like i struck gold
thanks for sharing this bro
But what about the heat vision depth map? What does it do?
Ouch! Tha pain you will create with this series will be unbearable! 🔥
Nice!
haha I love your attitude
blender big boss man
nice video
where is walKING dude i bought like 50 shirts im STILL WAITING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IM WALKING
As this could gain Default Cube a ton of enemies.
It is important to mention he is not suicidal. Although most of the stuff he does is batshit crazy.
Stable diffusion has great depth control net filter, very verry gud (maybe next video idea on how to implement it with 3d?)))👀
Would be good to buy the addon and compare results.
